phones are a weird thing, they either become utter crap after a few months or stay solid for seemingly forever

got a 3 year old galaxy s8 that i've absolutely hammered, plu many hours of it overheating being used as a satnav on a hot day

battery life isn't that good anymore but other than that it's been utterly rock solid

You would think it is too cold at night but no.................. some vandalising twats have smashed the windscreen and driver's window on my Range Rover lastnight. Did the windscreen on my Escort too. You cannot see them from the road so add trespass to mindless vandalism.

Conversely I've called out in my advert for the 406 that I did what it needed prior to going to France, and I keep being asked if it has FSH.

Not personal as they are in my mates paddock on hard standing. His workshop is by the road ,a third of the way is a line of willow trees then further along on one side hard standing with a horsebox, car trailer and my two cars. On the other side a shepherds hut and outside seating area. My mate takes his dogs down there everyday, hense I know it happened lastnight. Just kids having fun* smashing things.

I've had pretty good luck with most of my phones.  I still have the Vodafone 858 Smart which I bought nearly 10 years ago - first Android phone I ever bought - still working fine (although it won't run the latest versions of Android so updating apps is a pain) and on standby with a spare sim card in it the battery will still last a week or more.

Got fooled into buying a kitchen mixer last Black Friday from what now looks like a scam website. Followed a link from bbc good food website so thought it legit, but no communication for a week since the “ your order has been processed email “. Suspicion raised I looked at trust pilot and it seems it’s a scam.  Oddly though no money has been taken from my credit card.

Anyway, been on the phone to a Scottish chap ( I stay with Sainsbury’s as they have uk operators ) who closed that account and moved everything to a new one just in case. Just have to wait for the new card now and change the payment details for amazon, naked wines and PayPal etc. 

I seemed to have been saved by receiving a new card the day after I placed the order with the dodgy site and using it straight away which will have had the effect of cancelling the old card.

First time I’ve been stupid in falling for this sort of thing.

What's the name of the site?  I'm a bit concerned over a purchase I made yesterday - although, have received an email from the courier saying they have "received instruction to deliver the parcel although they don't have it yet".

Maybe, trustpilot reviews seem to show no one has got anything. Company recently set up too. Website looked ok, but now there’s no contact information.

 

moral learned from this, is to not rush into purchases on Black Friday offers.

First (non-Boris) MOT on the modern Shit-tron C3. Moved house so new garage and tester. Checked over well, gave it a wash and clean and in it went. But what’s this I spy:

the near side wiper (only 3 months old) had a little piece of leaf stuck under it, so it smeared a little line over the screen. Major defect? Really? Then to make it worse when I got there he’d fitted a new wiper, rather than just removing the leaf. And he’d ‘disposed’ of the old one. And managed to add 50,000 miles to the test certificate. And had made zero concession to COVID, had to squeeze into his tiny unventilated office to pay....

The quest for a decent local tester continues - the vans in Tuesday to another promising looking place.

Will you moan about something trivial at that one ? 
Remember that MOT testers are flat out busy at the moment due to covid tests and normal ones . 
If you knew that there was a leaf under the wiper when you presented it then why didn’t you pull it out ?

Getting the mileage wrong is shit tho .

You’re quite right, it’s a trivial moan, at the end of the day it cost me £15 for a new wiper blade and now I’ve got 12 months MOT again. However it made me a little peeved, partly because I do take care when presenting a vehicle for a test, making sure that everything works and is clean and tidy. Unfortunately I have to park under a tree, so small leaves in the wipers are a everyday irritation. I thought I had got them all out.

It did irritate me that he changed the wiper without asking, and that he couldn’t present me with the old one (which there was nothing wrong with). 

To be fair, if this was all, then I wouldn’t have bothered posting anything, but then to input the milage from a different car (and then be a bit of a tit about changing it) just turned the whole lot into a feeling of grumpiness.....

I thought that was more the point of this thread, the minor gripes and petty annoyances rather than the gut-sickening dread that comes with discovering the missus has been servicing the milkman or your house has fallen down.

In that vein, I won a doo-dad on an  eBay auction last Thursday lunchtime. The seller particularly specified  'prompt payment' which I did as soon as I got the email.

He sent it out yesterday, a full week after the auction ended. Twat.

That MOT tester is the reason why I'm specific where I take our cars come MOT time. There's a line between being flat out with covid catch up MOTs, and being a reasonable human being. 

I've used our tester for a few years now and I trust him implicitly. He's not a pushover, but he's not pedantic either. 

I'd assume was pulling my leg if he told me he'd failed my car due a leaf under the wiper smearing the screen.

I once had a car fail on an indicator bulb not being orange enough and was just about to start getting arsey and asking him what the correct colour temperature stipulated in the MOT manual was or did they just use a Dulux paint chart to measure it but the end of the sentence went, 'but I chucked a new bulb in it so that's an extra £1.50 you owe me. Here's the pass certificate.' which calmed my indignation.

These guys must get all kinds of shit flung at them from the Great Unwashed, it's not a job I could do without embedding a tyre iron in someone's head at least once a week.

Don’t forget that the testers are made by DVSA to report the vehicle as it’s presented so that they can gather stats of the actual state of vehicles on the road . That’s why they often fail then pass straight away , known as the PRS scheme . ( Pass rectified at station )

No contact address. No VAT number, No company details in the T&Cs either. I done a who is that that did not give any clues as to the ownership of the website either.

That's actually one of the things I've started checking now as I had a PRS and an advisory (on separate tests) on not-orange-enough indicator bulbs.  I've replaced two in the Skoda, three in the C2 and one plus a side repeater in the 75.

Trivial grump: I just went into a folder in my work email account which had 1,442 messages in it.  The thought which immediately popped into my head was "Ooh, that's the same as the engine size in an early Talbot Alpine".
