The grumpy thread

Clutch has gone. Standing by the roadside in a gale. Waiting for the AA. Pedal went to floor, etc. This is after it had taken me nearly 2 hours to get home. I’m cold.

Posted

Should have got my clutch and flywheel done. Should have listened to Egg. I’m such a tosser.

Posted

Fuck.

Shite. That doesn't look like a safe place to break down.

Start the car in gear with your foot hovering over the brake pedal, at least you can move it somewhere safer that way, switch the engine off or stall it to stop.

I drove a Rover 800 diesel all the way from Cumbria to the Highlands with no clutch but you're in the heavily trafficked south east.

Hope the AA arrives soon.

Posted

Ah shit that’s bad news, I hope you hadn’t detoured to pick the pedals up.

FFS, I've just got back after making myself scarce for 2 hours and they've not even been.

Two hours in the lusher is never wasted.

I’ve had lemforder ones on my merc last year ( edit, no it was two years ago now)- about £45 fitted a side by my trusted Citroen independent and £65 for a full alignment from merit tyres in the village.

As to the sad family funerals I commiserate with a your loss. It’s hard on those left when relatives have dementia and it’s no life for them at all when they’re immobile so it’s a relief in a way when they die as they’re out of pain and suffering. I’ve no grandparents left now, and my godmother is now in a home in Lytham st Anne’s after developing dementia following a hip replacement last year.

Sorry to hear that.

It's just over a year since my Gran was cremated, she also suffered from dementia for well over a decade. The final 6 or 7 years in particular were horrific and no humane kind of existence at all with no mobility and being unable to recognise people.

It's a weirdly conflicting emotion when the day comes, Of course the death itself is heartbreaking, but also their suffering is over, which brings a weird form of relief and closure. In time, i saw the truth is, it's kinder for them and those around them for it to end... The really cruel part was the dementia to begin with that robbed them of who they were, the death, whilst obviously horrible.... nobody wants to live a life like that.

That's a really shiity chain of events to have happened in a short period of time Si.

I can empathise with you as the wife's cousin and his wife have been trying for five years to get pregnant due to fertility issues on both sides. As well as repeated cancelled appointments they were due for one free course of ivf and then the guidelines changed and then didn't qualify.

My cousin died yesterday. Cancer. He was 42. I can remember going to his first birthday party. Is'nt it funny the things that stay in your mind?

Posted

All fine. I’m safe. AA patrolman was at the end of his shift, so he’s called another one out to tow me to my garage. He managed to get it moving on the starter but it’s stuck in first. Police turned up and I sat in the back of their Mondeo in the warm. Am now in a petrol station down the road from FTP, waiting to be picked up by patrol and then other half.

Spectacular first FTP, right?

Posted

I am now awaiting towing by a local recovery firm.

Is this what happens every time you FTP?

In the context of earlier posts, it's nothing really.

I hope everyone's day is improving.

I cannot fucking like anything in this thread but that doesn't mean I do not care

Will you update your your signature to 23 fuel ups and one fuck up?

Look under the 'Service' section.

My fuel economy is fucking shameful at the moment because of my route to work.  I haven't used Fuelly in months.

Kids.  Listen to your Uncle Egg when he tells you at the Autoshite Kent Meet that he knows a VW licker that can do the job that has needed doing for nigh-on two years.

I got a nice seat next to the fire, which was nice but there was an incredibly drunk pensioner arguing with a slightly less drunk chap who was losing the will to live, as the drunk chaps phone wouldn't work the entire time I was there.

"Gruuugh thish shuckin plone int wortiiiin"

"Let me have a look"

"Naaaah, youlll only furkigh brek it yer cunt"

"I'll take it to the shop next door"

"Whattte fook will e do"

"You need to refit your sim"

"You don't understand anything"

And repeat.

Annoyingly he did manage to sort his phone but then decided he didn't like his ringtone so went through them all until he found one that he thought was suitable.

I was glad to get out of there.

The A6 Allroad's autobox when phut this evening. Been having odd 'ghosts' for a while but tonight it was revving it's tit's off before selecting a gear. Managed to get home by gear shifting with the flappy paddles.....still slower than should be and still an utter cnut!

Wouldn't care but had a full fluid change and check in the summer (thick end of £600) and all was OK, according to the local specialist garage.

Really bloody need it this week too, so much so that I've been trolling t'interweb for something cheap and local to buy to at least get me out to work next week and get the money in to pay for Audi repairs.

So my taxi licence is up for renewal.

DBS vetting. Check.

New eyesight test. Check.

Application in on time. Check.

New medical requirements meaning I have to be inspected by my GP. Fail.

Until last year a driver had to only undertake a medical to get their first badge. Now the rules have changed meaning that I have to get a new medical when I renew my badge every three years. My council insist that this medical is carried out by my GP as they won't accept medicals taken at specialist taxi/HGV/PSV doctors. My problem is that my GP is on indeterminate sick leave and my last two appointments have been cancelled hours before their allotted time. I have never met my GP and apparently, he/she only works two days a week anyway. Previously whenever I needed either a taxi or HGV medical the process was as follows, I'd phone the surgery in the morning explaining what I needed, the receptionist would ask me to hold for a minute, the receptionist would then tell me to call in at lunchtime or when the surgery finished, upon attending the doctor would be waiting with his wallet open, I'd pay him eighty quid which went straight into said wallet, I would not ask for a receipt and then my medical would take place. Now apparently my GP practice has "new owners", I never knew that doctors surgeries had "owners" and all private medicals have to go through the books. I am fucked as my badge expires on Sunday night.

Welcome to unemployment. I can't even drive my own car as the law states that it's a licenced vehicle so I'll have to park it up until my doctor returns or it gets repossessed.

Everything I've worked for I'm about to lose. I really don't want to carry on anymore.

Posted

That's a wank situation WtC, can't another GP at the surgery see you?

If not can you sack them off and register at another one in the area?

Ok not by Monday morning but sometime next week?

Threaten to sue your medical practice....that'll make them sit up.

Yes. surgeries DO have owners. Practices are set up my a group of GP's just like any other business. The buy in is very expensive but the pay out for the owners is 'generous'. One of my friends is a GP.

Hence my first point - they won't want to lose any of that profit and will no doubt get you sorted quickly. Go online and see who the GP's are who are partners in your surgery and contact ALL of those.

Best of luck - I hate to see anyone in your position.

Expensive (and I'm not 100% certain he does what you need) but it could get you out of a hole.

Sadly Wirral Borough Council will only accept a medical from my own GP to prevent fraud as apparently, my own doctor will "know" me.

I have never met my GP. I don't even know if they're male or female.

Posted

WTC....yet the council don't know 'who' your GP is. so anyone from the practice can sign you up.

I am a patient at the surgery that my friend is a GP and partner in. She's not allowed to treat me due to legal considerations. So I see any of the other GP's, all of whom can sign anything needed.

Practices have a similar legal entity to a LTD CO. Therefore any 'officer' of the company can deal with the paperwork side of things.

Best of luck!!

Oh, and HGV/PSV medicals are only due every five years, not three as I have to endure now.

Shit mate, shame you aren't in Sefton as i'd likely be able to help you out via a GP I work with, you could try calling the Wirral CCG and raising a bit of hell about it, may help move things along a little

To move doctors would involve them seeing my notes which would take up to 14 days.

This year I'm getting a Sefton badge as they've fucked off their knowledge test.
