I refer the congregation to my message to Dirk earlier today.  We don't always get it right but we do try our best.  Some of you might consider that before you get your panties all twisted...

:)

I don't think that's ever in any doubt. Only yesterday, I was defending the fine work of the mods. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to sit back and not say if I don't agree with something.

Thank you! I can't get my pantys in a twist as I'm not American or a woman.

I think perhaps Mr Racer wasn't talking about your response.

On the other hand it might make the job of moderating less stressy and better received if it was saved only for stuff that needs doing rather than changing stuff that ticks along fine, out of the blue.

There's a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln that covers this.

Absolutely this.

Has moderating policy been tightened/recently?

I don't remark on such things normally as I think those prepared to make the effort to be mods should have leeway to get the job done

It would have been nice to have been asked, then we could have all aired our thoughts about it & maybe gone with the consensus decision.

But in the spirit of things: my NON-CAR grump is the "Carillon" thread in the off-topic area, because on first glance it makes me think there's a new Colin.

As has been said many times before, if you ask you'll get 20 different opinions, most of which will disagree with the other ones. It (moving the threads) was an idea that was tried and didn't work, it's hardly the end of the world and neither of those threads was car related anyhow.

Big deal in the general scheme of things?

Grumpy old men complaining about the grumpy old men thread?

Look out, the Internet may be about to implode on itself.

And then I would have to go outside and talk to people.

Please don't let that happen!

Bastard Windows 10 could do with spending less time installing shit that I never asked for - some Photo add-on that announced 'look at the photo album we just made you' - and more time trying not to do this:

How long is it now those donkey felchers at Microsoft been knocking out operating systems? And they still can't make one that fucking works properly, the useless twats.

That's a IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL exception. Unlikely to be Microsofts fault. Usually caused by dodgy hardware or bugs in device drivers.

In general I agree though. My main work pc recently spent three hours installing updates without notice. I had the install updates and shutdown function at the end of the day so did.

Turning on the pc the next day it started installing until 11am. So basically install doesn’t meen install does it. It means downloads and install next time you turn on. Well it extended my working day by three hours and Made my printer unusable. How do I bill Microsoft for my time?

Dodgy hardware that's had W10 installed from the factory? Because I've not introduced anything new - peripherals or upgrades.

Yes, still the most likely cause. As much as people like to crap on Windows 10, it generally doesn't BSOD anymore. It's pretty much always hardware.

I did that once, never again!

Yup potentially so. Microsoft don't write the vast majority of drivers used on a machine.

If you want a manufacturer that does that, get a MacBook. However even then my work MacBook suffered a kernel panic the other day caused by the Apple Magic Trackpad!

Oh and also I updated it to High Sierra (latest OS) after not booting into MacOS for a while (I usually use Windows) which it did. After rebooting it then required further updates immediately on top of that. As I walked away from the screen after logging in, it rebooted after 60seconds to update. Which took nearly half hour...

All computers are shit.

The mandated and forced down your throat updates (both MacOS and Windows do it) are because too many people were lax updating. Then they became infected and became botnets.

Basically most people are too shit with their computers to be trusted to manage it themselves.

You aren't the only one. I glanced at the title too quickly and thought I would be opening a thread about 80s rock band "Marillion"

Disappointed to say the least.

Bugger that, I'm neither a millionaire or an iTard so that's well and truly out.

It's just funny how all this ICT crap just seems to magically work when it's got an Open Source OS on it. My problem is that my University makes it nigh on impossible for me to go with my usual choice of Linux, so I fully expect to be a fixture in this thread for the next couple of years.

Ha! Well sod 'em. Thanks to advice on here, I think I've finally managed to stop Windows doing updates. Maybe I should allow them again now we're on Fibre, but on regular broadband, it just brought our connection to a standstill. I had a right moan at Plusnet until they told me exactly why our connection had gone utterly shit. Of course, no warning that Windows was about to do this. It also twice rebooted during a video upload, killing it each time. Useless.

I have eight PCs at work. One is on line and seven others moan that they need updating. Fat chance. I also have an old ibm for sentimental reasons - pre windows with a green monitor! How old does that make it?

Got a puncture while cycling to work this morning. Chucked my spare inner tube in and carried on for another 100yds whereupon I got another puncture. Walked my bike into Derby and got in a taxi with it. Had no cash so asked the driver to take me to a cash point. It was one of those wanky freestanding ones that charge you £2 to give you your money, but I was desperate so carried on. After a fashion it made a load of whirring noises and swallowed my card. FUCK OFF! Had to apologise to the cab driver (now I had no means of paying him) and walk my bike to work. Arrived at 9am #cantstopwinning

following on from this bollocks last week, on the Friday I crashed into a pile of traffic cones and today my pedal snapped off without warning, forcing me to pedal 5 miles one-legged. FUCK OFF!

I feel your pain!  I've had four punctures in the last week.  FOUR!!  In this shitty weather and all.  Fuck knows what's causing that.  Only been happening since I yogged sixty quid on a pair of new tyres as well.  "Gis a break man"
