The grumpy thread

I do use my garage to keep my car in occasionally, but always tell the insurance it's left outside. Typically having cleared my garage enough to get a car in it, I backed the Corsa in, went to put the door mirror 'in' and broke the bastard. It's only a temp home as the dustpan/brush Midget will be in there in a couple of weeks time.

Don't work on Alan's cars?

Ben

That or the beetle is haunted.

Diuretics really do what they say on the tin (packet).

Oh FFS, what again? I only went 10 minutes ago. Sigh.

Purple, this may be an opportune time to consider Urotherapy.

An old bleed pipe with a hot water bottle means you wouldn't even have to stand up.

Speed camera van just over brow of hill catching speeding motorists who come over hill I didn't see it till last minute. Same as I didn't notice I was doing an indicated 35. Fuck sticks

Posted

Indicated 35 is probably more like 31-32 and hopefully low enough to not get a ticket for it. Cross your fingers! I passed a camera van today, but you could see it half a mile away.

My grump - people and money.

I did a clutch on a focus this week, for the daughter of someone I've known over 20 years. When she arrived to collect she was about £50 short even though I told her on the phone how much it would be. She promised to bring it in today, I let her take the car.

Guess what? No show and her phone's turned off.

I rang her mam instead. Waiting to hear back.

I've been gripped once with a speed camera and twice with a speed camera. Every time I've sent a business card of someone who tried to con me out of money saying he was test driving the car and have not heard anything back.

Hmm, Mrs PBK has a hot water bottle.

I set on mopping my Rover 45 tonight. Got the bonnet and wings done (and looking great) then the flippin mop died. I think the switch is jiggered. It was a cheapy 'silverline' effort off eBay though and I've had it several years.

I see you can buy a new switch off eBay from a chinese seller for £6 so I have bought one for ultimate mingebaggery, no idea if it will fit or blow all the fuses in my house though.

Posted

Based on previous experience - the new switch will be fine, but fitting it will involve 37 screws and parting both halves of the mop and spilling a load of plastic cogs on the floor.

Just bypass the switch and have it roar into the life as soon as you plug it in, that's what we did.

I recently borrowed a sander that had been modified in such a way, it would have been nice to have been told that before I'd plugged it in and switched it on. I have no idea why I didn't just switch it off at the plug straight away, electing instead to chase it around the floor trying to catch it before it bit something.

Ah, so that blokes carrier bag was full of switches then!

Or slip underneath with a pry bar and ease the calipers back . Panicky few pumps of the brakes for her !

She rang me earlier full of apologies promising to bring the money first thing in the morning. She had some BS excuse about signal strength which wasn't a problem when I was ringing with updates on the car, but it looks like ringing her mum to complain might have worked.

I also noticed I still have the locking wheel nut key. Oops.

Is it blue with silver 'metal' bits? Mine did the same. I fixed it by sorting out the round button on the side. You have to press it in to start it (as opposed to pressing it after you press the big switch to keep it locked). My speed dial has long since given up, so the only settings are 'back to primer' or 'unexpected delorean'.

I took a load of asbestos sheets off the garage roof last year but didn't get around to taking them to the tip so decided to take them this week. I've had to apply for a temporary permit which is OK. What is not okay is that they've started charging £10 a sheet from the beginning of May. Seems there's a charge for a lot of building products now, £3 a slab, £10 a upvc window etc. Bugger. I wouldn't mind so much but it's the same council I work for!

This is an incredibly minor first world grump, but does anyone want my 306 Estate for super cheap?

I want the tow bar off it, that's it. Something's died in the engine bay and the starter and glowplug relays are marmalised.

I just want shot of it now TBH.

Pa had a little piece of asbestos from am old ironing board.

He rang the council who said he had to take it to a waste facility 40 miles away, which he did.

He had to go over the weighbridge and the guy said his weight was the same in and of so they couldn't charge him.

Lucky really as the minimum change was for quarter of a tonne.

I think the woman on the phone sent him to the wrong place.

Oddly enough my Silverline buffer has been playing up. If you hold it facing down it's mostly ok, but sideways it just shuts itself off. My neighbour (who's pretty good with these things) reckons it'll be the brushes: there's a cover (on the top, near the grab handle, I think) that you unscrew and he says the brushes are in there. I haven't tried to source them yet, he suggested trying an internet search or eBay.

Know how you feel. Talking with wife last night - we both conclude that as you get older and shit happens life becomes something of an anti climax.

If she doesn't pay just make it clear she goes elsewhere in future - somewhere where she doesn't get her keys until she's paid.

My friend has an SOC type garage and he reckons that unpaid bills represent good VFM because he never sees the non - paying customer again.
