If you won the lottery, what non-shite would you buy?

I'm sure we all do this occasionally, but in a gloriously off topic kind of way I'm sure we've all got ever changing ideas of that collection of cars you'd buy if you won the lottery... Some's bound to be slightly shitey, in some of your cases it's probably all proper Autoshite, but... oh fuck it, you all know the drill. The 10 cars you'd have to buy if the space / funds / insurance / fuel / maintenance / practicality / costs were no longer an issue. Mine would be the following;1: Aston Martin V8 Vantage from around 1978, with x-pack engine.2: Perana Capri in either yellow or orange, tweaked significantly.3: Brabus EV12 7.3 Estate in black with black leather and 220 CDi badging4: Granada Mk1 3.0 Ghia manual in black with 24v Scorpio lump, AC and S pack.5: Rover P5B Coupé in black with injected 4.6 lump and 4 sp auto.6: Ferrari 456 GTM in Titanium Grigio7: Escort RS1800 Custom.8: BMW 3.0 CSL in blue9: MG ZT-T 260 in black with the planned X-Power engine upgrades.10: Overfinch Range Rover Classic in black with LPG.

wot ? NO old-style corvette then ?!(had a 68 327/350 that went to South Africa with me; haven't yet decided if my mistake was (a) shipping it there, (B) coming back without it, or © coming back....... looks like we might have similar dreams though.

1: I'd send my Triumph off to a restorer and tell him to make it look like a brand new car. Recondition or replace every single part.2: Escort XR3. I think they're cool.3: Chevrolet Volt because they're going to be awesome. 4: Mazda MX-5 (current model) in place of an MG Midget (because I've already got both Triumph and an A-Series powered cars)5: Mini of some kind. You've got to have a Mini. 6: Rover P6 3500 for some class.7: A '58 Ford Edsel. Because they ARE awesome. 8: Austin FX4 black cab. What's better around town?9: Something new for long journeys in the rain at night.10: A tatty old Transit for moving stuff about :)This list is amended a hundred times a day.

Boeing 747 covered in graffiti and held together with gaffer tape & string. Just the job for popping over to the Caribbean, Maldives & so on. All the seats would be removed to make room for cars, tools, spare parts, wifes luggage etc.

1) Very probably your Bentley, Pete.2) Lotus Carlton.3) Insignia Tourer, whatever the most expensive model is for daily use.4) Aston Martin DB7.5) Double cab extended chassis Merc Sprinter recovery truck and bling it up a lot.6) Suzuki GT750 'Kettle'.7) Black Range Rover TD (the new shape one). A bit footballer/wannabe gangsta/council dreamer but I do like the lookf of 'em.8) XJS V12.9) Leyland Daf 7.5 tonner with biggest Cummins turbo engine possible plus hiab and slide bed.10) Triumph Legend motorbike. Can't be arsed with Ferrari/Lambo/similar vile monstrosities personally.

A constantly varying list...1. Aston Martin V8 Vantage (the new one)2. Range Rover (full size, none of this footballer's wives 'sport' nonsense) with the TDV8 power3. Ford Transit (for tat & towing)Takes care of the day-to-day stuff, now for some fun...4. '64 Impala convertible, wires, pumps, fancy paint etc5. Peugeot 304 convertible or similar6. Escort Mexico7. "Series" Land Rover8. 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC9. Something huge, american, black or brown flat paint, menacing...10. Oh and a 60's Vickers or Westmorland showman's caravan.

Not a lot really, I would mostly just spend it buying complete toss and having full nut-and-bolt restorations done on Honda Ballades.

However, I would also order a new Maserati Quattroporte. I love going on the configurator and making them, you get to pick the colour of interior stitching and all sorts.

That's my custom one, nice eh! If it was for real I'd probably push the boat out and get them to do the exterior paint in a solid brown.

sadly if i won the lottery i'd proberly end up with every car within a hundred mile radius :D

1 Lancia Flaminia Super Sport Zagato:

End of list.

Technically that's a Super Sport; the Sport (which I prefer) has a slightly different front and rear and less contrived roofline:

I love Flaminias, but if I was going to have one it'd be one of the Touring coupes:

To keep the demand on AS's servers down I'll restrict myself, however my list would have to include one of these, an Abarth 205 Coupe by Vignale:

That would keep me amused for a while I fancy. However, in addition, I would add the best CX Turbo I could find. I find myself with a hankering for an Avantime at the moment also...

Unmolested Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo in Sprint Blue for daily duties, alongside a five-door Mazda Lantis V6.

Maserati GranSport with the 3200-style 'boomerang' rear light conversion (it's been done).

Actually, while we're on the subject of Masers, I LOVE these - a special-edition Ghibli with a truly epic interior:

Detoit 8V92 powered Peterbilt 35210. BMW 3 series convertible for 'er indoorsApart from these, I would just buy any old tat that took my fancy and would indeed have barns stuffed with vehicles

Some nice choices there Pete, my money would be spunked on the following:Lotus Carlton.Totally with you on the Aston Martin Vantage V8 with the X pack, I'd have a late eighties one though with the big cross-spoke wheels as I've wanted one since I saw Tim Dalton hop out of a V8 in the Living Daylights.A mint Merc 560 AMG SEC in either black of that nice shade of metallic blue.Lambo Countache-a real eighties screamer, as you can see from my choices I'm not really interested in modern stuff but hanker after stuff that I loved as a car-obsessed kid. A Mustang but the Boss one-love seventies yank coupes like 'cudas and the like, hell I might even get the Foose to build me a something nice.VW Splittie, shoot me but I'd see it as an Investment so sod it I might even buy a fuck-load of them then laugh like a twat in ten years time when I've made loadsa wonga on them. Citroen DS, I've wanted one for so Long. Some sort of modern Merc AMG supercharged V8 would do for long trips en continent, I'm not bothered what it is as they're all much of a muchness to me but the pedal on the right makes the right noise.BMW M1, Nice.Cheerio.

Thanks for the correction, duly modified :) Perhaps I should have one of each then I could sit and endlessly ponder the merits of the two designs.

Afterthought: A Scania 143 would be ideal for anything that wouldn't fit in the boot and an AEC Reliance with Burlingham Seagull body would fit the bill when more than a 2+2 is needed. 8)

Difficult, but mine would be (in no particular order)1. Citroen Mehari2. Porsche 911 (996 I think...)3. Renault Alpine A6104. Alfa Romeo Montreal5. Citroen DS6. Citroen H van7. SEAT Exeo Estate (daily, fitted with a towbar ftw)8. Renault 5 Turbo 29. Escort RS 1600i10.Renault Estafetteplus loads more really. Then there would be a barn full of other tat, old Renaults, Seat Malagas and that sort of thing :D

I despair all of you except Meowdchina! We are talking about a lottery win, and the list has a Vauxhall Insignia, a Ford Transit, a MINI and a Seat Exeo!

Posted

Hey! I'd like an Exeo. I've got the Porsche on the list, an Exeo would make a nice daily - suitably spec'd up of course so it ended up costing something like £35k.Anyway, I couldn't bring myself to spend £100k on one car. If I win the lottery then I'll be buying a big house / garage complex - thats where my money will go.

I don't think I could buy anything respectable, I'd just end up filling a barn with Peugeot 604s and early Subarus.Maybe I could stretch to owning a Citroen C6, I'd buy a fully-specced V6 petrol and be really exclusive.I like Hirst's Quattroporte too, I don't know how anyone can look at one and buy the German equivalent instead, they are wonderful.A menacing avant-garde saloon is the way to go.

Posted

There's absolutely loads I'd love, obviously.. but a few that stick in my head at the moment are:Honda NSX Type RPorsche 911 964RS in RubystoneFord GTDe Tomaso LongchampsLancia DeltaLancia Fulvia FanaloneTVR CerberaJensen Interceptor

Posted

In my semi-shite garage, there would be:A Golf GTI G60, the one with the blue trim and without the Ralleye arches.Lotus CarltonAudi RS2 Avant.Sapphire CosworthA TVR of some sortNothing too fancy - none of those are really 'lottery winner' material but more 'great uncle bob died and left me some money'. I just wouldn't want to drive anything like a Veyron or Enzo, I'd rather fill up the RS2 with Optimax and hoon it around some country lanes. In fact with the exception of the TVR they're all 'sleepers' really, boring cars with a nutty engine in.

Posted

it'll change tomorrow, but my one big spend would probably go on this:

Posted Image

and then i suppose a Fiat 130 coupe.....

.....and then i'd find a big barn and proceed to fill it with 70's Datsuns and Granadas. and Vauxhall Royales. basically just save as much tat as i could from the crusher, then go on a welding course and get stuck in.

All of this is moot of course, as i doubt very much i'd survive the initial whisky/cocaine bender that would almost certainly happen within minutes of winning any large amount of money.

I'd have to group stuff TBH. Depressingly, most of my chosen metal would be fairly shite. One non chod purchase would be a Morgan Aeromax, followed by an IFR Aspid. I would also buy myself an Isdera Imperator 108i, as well as some kind of batshit Caterham.Several American cars would have to be purchased, notably a Dodge Challenger (guess the spec and colour), a Ford Galaxie Estate, and an AMC AMX. Probably a Mercury Cougar and an LTD 428 as well.Hereby I will group the chod by manufacturer:1. Citroen: GS, GS Estate, BX 16v, C6.2. Isuzu: 117, Bellett, Piazza pre Lotus (would probably give mine to the IPTOC)3. Volvo: Amazon 121 (obv), P1900, 444, 544, 544 van, 480 Turbo.4. Peugeot: 404, 309 GTI 16, 306 DT (yarly), GTI-6, 405 Mi 16, 604 V6, 605 SVE 24.5. Renault: 4CV, Dauphine, 7, 8 Gordini, 10, 14, GTA, Alpine A110, 21 Turbo.6. Rover: P5B Coupe, SD1 Vitesse.7. Alfa Romeo : Giulia Super, SZ, 164 V6.8. Triumph : TR7 V8, 2000 Estate.9. Ford Europe : Capri 280, RS200.10. Mazda : RX 7 Mk 1, Cosmo Sport, AZ - 1. Subaru : SVX.My Amazon would get a 2.5 L stroker engine from V Performance and a supercharger. I'd keep my Celeste also and get it mint. The GTI 6 would be my everyday car I think, that or a 900 Turbo 16.I would buy an old airfield with a lot of land, and store my cars in the hangars. I'd live in the outbuildings and fill the hangars with lifts and pits, and tell my friends they could store \ work on their stuff FOC. The rest of the time would be a gigantic piss up. Or a track day \ drag race etc.

Posted

There only two cars that i can think off that i would 100% want to buy if i won, and it would have to be 1. Aston Martin DBS V122. Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1Anything else would just be a runaround.

That's a bloody good idea.Mustard mitt, I'd have an SD1 Vitesse, Pug 604 STi and an R30TX stashed somewhere...

Probably an age thing but wouldn't want anything too flash as a daily so would just like something 'normal' and 'boring', it must be said though old Transits are ace fun and useful!

shit i forgot about that one, thats been one of my dream cars for years.

Alpine white, pistol shift, houndstooth trim (arguably), the whole hog. Probably have to get a big Catapilla earth mover to park next to it too.

oh and one of these too
