I've got so many scars on my hands and arms from silly things. Quite a few angle grinder bites too.

Posted

Nothing worse than the angle grinder catching your finger or the side of your thumb, the bastard stings for days ?

I'm having a bad day. After patching myself up and carrying on, I wired the fan using too small a gauge of wire/switch and melted the switch. So back to the drawing board.

My black toe is with you blood, nobody expects to mess them own selves up.

I'm walking with a gangster limp although I havent progressed to holding my nuts like they are about to be stolen.

I thought Fan Fuses were 15/20 amps, dont use speaker wire for that :)

I used household wire, but the switch wasn't man enough. I've ordered 4mm wire and decent connections and an aircraft style switch.

Currently struggling to get my Rover Sd1 round a tight twisty track. Managing to beat a lot of modern stuff though.

No matter how slow a fan looks like it is spinning, DO NOT try to stop it with your hand.

Pressure = force / area or something like that

I'd like to see a 70bhp 218D being used as a getaway vehicle... ?????

In the early 1990's the Taxi I used was stolen from Loughborough - D221PUK A 1600cc Diesel Ford Orion dog slow it was. Turned up in Nottinghamshire with a shotgun in it from a bank robbery getaway!

Not something like that.  Exactly that!

Laughed for the fact they used such a slow car in a bank robbery not the fact it was stolen

Is your driver wearing a tuxedo and a bow-tie?  That's remarkably well presented for a racing driver!

You'll all be pleased to know I completed my 19 hour gaming marathon at 12am last night, it was definitely a bigger challenge than I anticipated. I'm suffering a bit today*

Total raised was £160, which is good, but not as great as I'd hoped for.

Now I can get back to talking about real cars and not playing with digital ones & pestering people for donations ?

In other news, my finger isn't healing as well as I'd have expected, hope it isn't getting infected.

*The usual shit, not going to go into detail or look for sympathy.

Change that C to an F and you'll be fine.

A bit late with the donation, but I thought I’d throw in the profit I saw for collecting M AAV, so I guess the 218D is responsible for that donation? You can thank it with diesel and road trips ?

I need to sort the inside bit of the sunroof, as all the fluff is gradually raining down on me. Any ideas? I might either scrape it with a hoover attachment or I guess I could stick gaffa tape on it and pull off like some automotive waxing session...

The sunroof whistles like nobodies business on the motorway ?

We found out today that its actually the passenger door that whistles. Drove to Colchester and back, was good to give it a bit of a shakedown, figure out what needs doing.

Regarding the rad fan- are you using a relay? If not then you should! That way the switch handles a tiny amount of current and you can use a nice small switch and thin wiring.

Good practice anyway, you want to try to keep large current draw away from your fingers if you can. Just putting bigger wiring or a more hefty switch in probably isn’t the right way to resolve this.

Especially in a DC motor. Inrush current will be quite high until the motor spools up

Is the frame on the whistling door bent out slightly?  TADTS  Owners like to lean on the door to pull themselves out of the car  and it bends the frame around the glass.  Pretty easy to bend back again, just don't forget to wind the window down when you do.

How's this?

IMG_20200629_150051.thumb.jpg.22db7eb1722226d27a3621459cc14aee.jpg

Or does the '30' bit need to be a switchable live, e.g. ignition?

Posted

Wouldn't you want the fan side fused, rather than the switched? Ign feed rather than permanent live also a good idea unless you plan to run the fan after you've switched off.

Perfect. Your feed for the switch wouldn't necessarily have to be ignition switched either as I doubt you'd accidentally leave it on, and also make sure it's something that's fused with a nice small fuse like the cigarette lighter feed.
