Phooar. Do dealers do their own special editions any more?

Give the sunroof seal a good scrub with a nail brush and some warm soapy water, remove it if possible from the car,dry it thoroughly, refit and smear it with some Vaseline, that should revive it.

Always worked for me in the past.

Interestingly, all of the glass, including the sunroof and headlights has been marked with the registration number...

Also, the jack / wheel brace look unused.

wasnt that a thing back in the day? Vague memories of people being encouraged to have all of the glass etched with the reg number to make cars harder to ring?  Like having your bike postcoded !!

No wood?

Every single one of my (or rather my dad's) three R8s and my mates r8 (n=4) had wood...

The base spec 218D, and also the gti models didn't have wood, as far as I know. Apparently this black piece of trim is pretty sought after. I swapped the one in my last 218D for a wood one, the person was very pleased.

Never mind how to revive you, what about the sun roof?

Spent the last few hours on the Fenlander...

Done the bumpers, they are OK for now, will get some decent goo for them at some point.

Also taken the strips from under the lights off, they are peeling horribly. And also have some awful non matching red paint on in places that has bubbled up and melted. Not sure what to do about them.

IMG_20200622_164809.thumb.jpg.1c24d23fa111b1798b85c799b19939d9.jpg

Had to straighten the bumper out on the passenger side as it had been bashed and things bent. It doesn't look too bad.

Next jobs are to finish disinfecting the interior parts (sun visors being done) and then see if I can rescue the headrests.

Engine shot, as I realised I hadn't done one yet. @rob88hthinks the number on the sticker at the front (1.08) indicates how much effort (out of 10)the factory put into each car. The Tourer has 2.04, so must have been a better day...

Cambridgeshire Vehicle Watch eh. I had a South Yorkshire one. They were free from local plod and were a sort of invitation to stop the car and check it wasn't nicked. The reg numbers on glass etc was another measure to try and keep the tea leafs away.

I'd like to see a 70bhp 218D being used as a getaway vehicle... ?????

Is it right to say you've had more R8s than anything else?

Let's see.

6 R8s (2 x 218s, 3 x 416s, 1 x 418)

7 Ladas (2 x Samara, 2 x Riva Estate, 2 x Riva Saloon, 1 x Classic)

I believe The wee sticker is the maximum amount of shites per whatever that the exhaust can blow out for an MOT.

If the sticker is removed the benchmark becomes 3.5

Something like that.

In other news, the local birds don't seem to like the Tourer...

Funny story about a bird shitting on my car. Well maybe not that funny.

I'm sure there are a lot of cars that you would keep for a while but it's looking like you enjoy the chase and the subsequent clean up and titivation more than actual ownership. That's looking 100% better already.

Good news on the divorce front, I mean that in the best way possible under the circumstances.

I think I’ve seen that look before...

Ah, yes when Woody ends up in Sid’s garden and realises what’s in store for him.

One thing I've noticed is how eager the engine is to start. You turn the key (after glow plug light goes out) and it springs into life immediately, it's amazing. The Tourer does it too, but even quicker with the Fenlander. I'm definitely a convert to the XUD way!

Took all the paint off the front headlight trims, they can stay black for now.

Sunroof out, cleaned and lubed up. Fingers crossed it seals a bit better.

Also took the rear mudflaps off, as they were both hanging on by one bolt.

Have you seen the blue R8 rusting away on a driveway near Kent Elms?

No, not seen that one. There's a green one on Eastwood Road north too.

Went for a pootle around, a Mcds coffee and a jet wash this evening. Also jet washed the headrests from the Fenlander. I think I've got most of the old people gunk off them.

Sat and drank my coffee at a largely deserted 'cruise meetup' place behind Mcdonalds.

Headrests have dried off nicely after yesterday's jet wash session, so now I have nice clean ones with no hint of white hair and old people grease.
