Under the bonnet

I checked, as I though the same thing.

Unlocked car with a coat hanger, less gone in 60 seconds as much as gone in 60 minutes though.

No luck.

If he still has the coat hanger he doesn't need the keys and he picks up Heart FM at the same time. Bonus!

I was forever locking the keys in my 323. Eventually discovered 5p piece opened the hatchback.

I can't believe no one has asked..

"where did you see them last"??

That always helps find things.

A copy of one of those shouldn't cost any more than £5 at a local indy locksmith, might be time to get one made?

The two keys are the same, so I've just separated them and added to other bunches of keys.

Are you certain that you have the plugs connected up on the right order?

I've connected up plugs the wrong way on the MX5 MK1 we had and it ran, albeit badly. Likewise on the MGB too.

No, but I haven't changed the order since I got it. They are 1342 in an anti clockwise direction, as far as I remember

Just went and finished replacing all the vacuum hoses. It was sitting idling badly as per usual, so started disconnecting the HT leads one at a time. All caused the engine to stall, except for number 2, where the car kept idling. I held the cable near the engine and although there was a spark, it was weaker than the rest.

They are brand new leads though.

Calling Compression Tester to Cylinder 2 please...

Have you got enough slack in the leads to swap 2 & 3 over just to confirm lead ok?

Try getting down to Poundland as at the moment they are doing the TrackR keyfobs which were once about £25 for a quid and i bought a couple to put on my car keys and work a treat for finding lost keys.

As suggested try a selection of the old leads in place of number 2.

Does the inside of the cap look correct and not damaged?

Compression on the cylinder should not make any difference to the spark so if it looks less than the others then that should be you issue or at least one of them.

Only potential issue is the rotor arm, which has not arrived yet.

As a side point, I had a similar issue with a Lada I had, ended up changing the engine.

Only when dismantling the old engine did we notice that the distributor shaft was bent. ?‍♂️

More snags.

Rotor arm is incorrect.

Not all my fault, as the listing said it fit.

In other news - compression test report.

As long as I'm doing it right?

Turning the engine with the other 3 plugs in, but all leads disconnected.

Gauge jumps to 125ish, and on further cranking clicks up to about 185-190.

Sound about right? It does the same for all 4 cylinders.

Consistency across the cylinders is the key point. They do take a couple of turns to get a proper reading.

Is the rotor arm incorrect? I.e. does it not fit?

If it does fit, I wouldn't dismiss that it has an incorrect rotor arm on at the moment!
