Wright Wight, I suppose?

LOL. You don’t ‘export’ a car to the Isle of Wight from London. The IoW is part of England in the same way that Leicestershire is. I wonder if the vendor is getting mixed up with the Isle of Man.

Looks like it's come from the Isle of Wob.

@eddyramrod Did you buy the Velox/Cresta? It sold for a reasonable £2300 if I remember correctly.

No I didn't.  Buy it with what?  Yes it was reasonable (£2400); a mere 100 times what I paid for my first one.  I would have liked that, as it's an auto, and registered where I came from.  However: I do know there's another one in the garage, registered in Barrow so not landed far from the tree!  I'm trying to get negotiations opened.

These things routinely sell in five figures these days, probably because almost all the surviving examples are show quality.  This pair... no, with the best will in the world, you couldn't say that about them.  They're very 1977 in appearance!  So that'll explain the relatively low price.  But the key word there is relatively.  The price the green one sold at is still out of reach for me.  And I know there are some far-more-serious collectors around here with much deeper pockets.

Fair enough, Eddy. Someone got a decent deal, I reckon.

Ignoring the hfm point, I thought the whole point of a registration number was that it IS unique!

Corr , I had one of these as a company car when I was a pup. I remember it having a very comfy ride and when wound up would cruise quite happily. I once did a nonstop mercy run from Plymouth to Sunderland and back with no personal ill effects. The air intake was below the front bumper though and I did hydro lock the engine when driving through a pretty shallow puddle in torrential rain. New rods and cylinder head required. Not an uncommon event according to the local main dealer.

Check out the drivers side A post and the off side front wing that was clearly Caribbean blue before, on this car that’s never been re-sprayed:

I’d love another Mk5 but I’ve had the fun* of rotten a posts before and don’t wish to re-visit:

Vauxhall Carlton GL 2l Manual Spares Or Repairs - Picture 1 of 5

Vauxhall Carlton GL 2l Manual Spares Or Repairs | eBay UK

I bought one of these from the local auctions, long before I started working there. Was £50 (I think) all in and I got it the day after the auction, as they would take bids/give prices on non-auction days. Anyway, I proudly drove it home and it did a sizeable impression of the Flying Scotsman about a mile in. How I got the bastard back I'll never know.

I swapped it for a new Daewoo mountain bike (it turned out) my mate had had off from a Motorworld car accessory shop
