Tell him you're ready to wire the deposit.  I think in these scenarios (great cars, great price) it's cough up the deposit - then go look.  Even if it wasn't as good as you hoped, you'd always get out of it without a crippling financial loss.

Apart from escorts the less popular stuff that's advertised at silly prices doesn't sell at best it just changes hands between dealers.

All the cortina crayford s,mk3's bakkies Mk5 XR 6's  etc hold no nostalgic memories to 99% of UK enthusiast 's so are stuck in limbo, then you've MK3 GT 's that are sort after but most people are happy to just fit the grille while dealers are trying to ramp up the prices on.

There's going to be another early 90's crash on classic car prices/values with mainly the enthusiast suffering.
