Since when we're these VW powered?

Since VW bought SEAT, presumably!  The diesel Terras also had a VW engine.

Depending how bad that is underneath etc that could be a good buy.

yeah, did have a look at the MOT history after posting, and it's had a lot of welding even when it did run.

I think only bASe/City (and maybe L?) got metal bumpers (but also the later Ledbury/Apple/Bulgarian ones).

I used to think only MG/VP got them but someone on here schooled me.

Ahhh i thought all the early models had steel bumpers and then it changed over. I have also been schooled on the Maestro on here now

I had a very early  MG Maestro 1600. It had plastic bumpers.

This launch brochure shows on the base had metal bumpers

The vans also had metal bumpers but they were not a thing at launch. I think it was launched about a year later.

£5k? Is that what a rolling project goes for these days? It looks nice but chassis needs attention apparently and bad crash repair showing through.

Isn't that a £2k car? Especially with 100k+ on the clock. I know it's a 'trigger's broom' situation but that's still quite high.

It should really be 2.5 or less as per description but it’s also shiny, so someone will buy it anyway and values will continue to be weird

Pretty sure the later Clubman also got the metal bumpers.

I think the lowest trim level always got metal bumpers.  Initially that was just badged Maestro, later City (the slightly higher spec City X also made do with metal bumpers at one point) and later still Clubman.

Didn't think they did back then.

The sticker may be worth saving.

Long before the WAG was a thing, there was an unwritten law that every car in Wales had to have one of these stickers in the back of their car.

Still registered as a 1972 Ford Escort, so the V5 is probably worth the asking price to a ringer.

Quite unstylish in the day, and numbers decreased a bit because you could bum them for the engine for your Fizzy.
