Wow, that is amazing! And right hand drive.

I guess the "conversion kit" is really only the window blanks and rear doors that go in place of the tailgate. Still, very cool and I would wager a very handy little thing to own.

I once had a Cinquecento van, years ago.

Yeah, they're ten a penny in Italy. There's a bulkhead you can put behind the drivers seat.

Once again Fred_Binary is ON FIAH!

Meanwhile, here's an Astra that's been to the moon. 217k, therefore disproving the adage Orl Voxallz R Shit. Probably. £1750.

Credit where credit's due, that Astra's interior does not look like it's had 200,000 miles of being sat in. From those photos at least, seat, gearstick and steering wheel wear is barely discernible.

Base Maestros had steel bumpers like the vans !

Even says L on the tailgate. ;)

I thought L was the base model. I need to top up on my Maestro/Montego knowledge, especially as my dad had a C-Reg Montego Estate in the 90's!

Wikipedia says :-

The Maestro was available in the following trim levels:

  • Base (1983–1985)
  • L (1983–1990)
  • LE (1986–1988)
  • HL (1984–1987)
  • HLE (1983–1985)
  • HLS (1983–1986)
  • LX (1990–1993)
  • City (1985–1988)
  • City X (1985–1988)
  • Special (1988–1990)
  • Clubman (1990–1994)
  • SL (1988–1990)
  • Mayfair (1986–1988)
  • Vanden Plas (1983–1988)

I think the city models also had the metal bumpers.

Didn’t the base model get the van headlights / surrounds and black steel bumpers?

Not the headlights, although apparently BL did consider doing that.

There were prototype cars with the van headlights:

The above pictures were actually included in the Maestro launch brochure as part of the blurb about how extensive the testing of the new model had been.

I've had two of those Scimitars, they were so nearly there, very much an if only a bit more investment in finishing off and marketing.
