I thought the previous owner handed it over on the premise she got her number plate back?

Well remembered. I'm just chucking her some cash instead after the the DVLA were dicks and she fancied a new sofa.

Oh shit, I did.

That's going to go down well with the Junkwoman...

Supermodeldaughter #2 approves wholeheartedly though.

And that counts.

I rather be the Papa of heaven than the hubby of hell.

Does that make any sense?

Mmmmmm needs moar green though!

I really do like that.

I need something big American and V8 in my life!

Sandglow.  Harvest Gold is considerably more repulsive, which is an achievement!

Can you tell I don't like beige cars?  Says the man with the Laredo Tan Cadillac.....

Yes, but nowhere near as horrible as Bracken!

My Dad really went for it when he changed from a Harvest Gold 1800 to a Bracken Wolseley Six.

I've just had a Second Chance Offer on this.

I got Huggy on a SCO, and before him, the Scarlet Skateboard.  This might be a very good sign.

Rover Metro 114 SLi

I'm usually not interested in newer metros but the spec/colour combo of this one has got me intrigued and it needs saving

Worth buying just for the number plate. If you took out a loan to buy it you would be in hock to the bank. If you went to the off licence you could buy a bottle of hock. If you had a German passenger you could say hande hock....

Actually I've been thinking of you since I saw the listing first, it's got your name all over it.

Tonight I've decided I should sell everything I own and cruise around in this:

Pretty isn't it?

That number plate is so familiar.....

Used to be Richard Gunn's car from Classic Car Weekly. Featured quite a lot in there and Practical Classics. Pretty sure Sam Glover also had it for a while.

Ah, he owned a 2.2 diesel Vauxhall, this man is truly an excellent source of knowledge on what constitutes a performance vehicle.

"Can rovertake anythin"

My god, he is Aberdeenshire's answer to Alan Partridge; and he repeats it again in case we missed it.

"Sounds like an evo"

Exactly* what I look for when buying a Rover 800.

"Full gobbledeygook exhast Fae pearsly ana"

I am not even going to fucking bother trying to translate that.

"I really needing t swap for a diesel focus injin for my ST 2.5 turbo red we black stripes"

That is the motoring equivalent of deciding that instead of eating an exquisite fillet steak, you will eat the contents of the worst toilet in Scotland. Somebody offer him a swap for a fucked 1.6 TDCi Focus just to see if he will take it.

Question.

If you have a 'never registered' car from 1964, like this delightful Cortina above, woud you actually be able to register it for the road, or would it not be possible because it would not comply with all the current type approvals etc?

...and if you could register it, would it be a 64 "B" reg, or a 17 "17" reg...or something else??

I only ask cos a load of old 'new' cars came up for auction in Denmark a couple of years back (from a Fiat dealership that closed in 1981), but none of the unregistered cars could be registered

Fairly certain that in the UK it would be considered as previously un-registered 1964 car, be issued with an age-related plate and subject to the same legislation as an existing registered 1964 Cortina.   For example, no seat belt required, white indicators and mandatory windscreen wipers etc.

I could be wrong, though.....

Hang on

59 bhp

Hopeless 1960s motoring.

It's fairly certain type approval would be already in place as it was built here.

It would receive an age-related plate, as long as the build date could be determined from old factory records.  It's more than likely the Dagenham records survive.

My Vauxhall Victor FC had no docs but the Vauxhall archives could prove it was built March 1965.  DVLA then issued a 'new' 1965 plate and the V5C came back stamped '2005 Vauxhall declared manufactured 1965'.  Which was nice.

The auction was more likely a Denmark authorities thing.  Remember other countries don't get hung up on plates anything like Brits do.  In Holland for example, if you pay historic tax status you get issued historic tax plate of their choosing and that must be fixed to the car.

Too big a detour, sorry.

I've just looked at FotU and it's Saturday, not Sunday.  I'm at work, then I've got an event on in Barrow, at which I'm showing Huggy, so I would never have made it anyway.  Plus of course I'm not collecting the Rover until Sunday...
