If there was ever a car that should be here, it's that one. I photographed it a couple of years back at Shanklin station and thought how nice it was considering the HUGE mileage it had done.

Wow.  It's not too far from me although I can't do anything about the car I'm afraid.

Nevertheless:

Is it true that a Transit plated in the UK for 3.5 tonnes is rated for 4 tonnes elsewhere in Europe? Someone (here?) told me it was and I can't remember who. I'm having a twitter argument with a copper and I don't want to look more of a prick than I am.

I dont see how. Whats on the plate is whats on the plate and thats it.

Also, I dont know for certain with other EU countries, but suspect they are the same, but in France its very rare for vans and light trucks etc to be over 3.5tons GVW due to licence categories. Nobody here has automatic entitlement to over 3.5ton vehicles like in UK.

My brother in laws Mascott tipper is physically capable of being 6 tons GVW but is down rated to 3.5 tons so it can be driven by anyone.

Ahem.. 398,000 miles and still running faultlessly while earning me a living.

Good cars those Astras, someone’s parked a Mondeo in the way though.

I am looking for a car. It is driving me insane(er)!

What are the things to worry about on Volvo C70s? Same question for SAAB 9-3 convertibiles? Same again for Merc CLK 320 convertibles? There is what looks to be a nice Merc SLK 320 auto convert less than 1 mile from me, it's a 'T' reg and up for £2200. Is that over the top price wise?

Is it worth me:

A) buying a banger which looks like a decent car behind the neglect?

B) buy something for top money (for me) and mollycoddle it forever

Or

C) don't worry about the above as I'll probably sell them both shortly.

Price difference is £700...

They do make a transit plated to 4.2t not sure what if any the differences are. Obviously hideously unpopular here with tacho regs, operator licences etc

From the ad:

2003 Subaru Forester Xt

2.0 turbo petrol (same engine as impreza) 4 wheel drive

121k with full service history, all old vosa certificates (English mot) and a full printout of old mots to back up mileage .

Motd to October

Very clean and tidy car only downside is the driver seat bolster on the leather part is a bit worn.

Last month the car had new discs, pads, front tyres, timing belt & water pump kit.

Drives and pulls really well & everything works as it should

Heated seats, elec sunroof, Windows & mirrors, cruise control, alloy wheels, tinted windows etc. Looking £1195 ono, no swaps or time wasters, Text if interested, Belfast area

£1195 ono

Sounds fairly good to me...

I'd be using it mostly on motorway runs, not really urban. It's unusual if I put more than 10k on a car annually.

I'll not lie, I like it.

Grim interior? It has cupholders! Given that a few years ago I was driving a Polo Fox, this yoke looks like a Bentley!

EDIT: Waiting on the vendor to message me back re. a viewing. If it's as good as it appears (no towbar, so hopefully hasn't been used as a surrogate tractor as the majority of them appear to be) and a nice enough drive, then the money from TAZ and KAZ should provide a reasonable deposit while I rustle up the balance.

According to total car check it's £305 per year.

Cheers for the sleuthing chaps - Forester Gump looks like a possibility, then.

Viewing at 4pm.

Seems a bit expensive but if it’s fault and rust free with a working roof and fsh then it could be worth the money.

I like these c70s

I like the one before with the wrag roof. Funny old bugger ain't I?

Just been and had a look at that Merc, nice car. There is rust, round the wheelarches (not bad) scrape on the pass side rear bumper and it is really dirty outside. Inside is lovely, roof works spot on and is in good condition,  drives really well though I had to re-adjust expectations from dollop to smaller dollop, so a bit firm suspension wise, brakes are all good (and look to have new pads in the front), tyres are okay, goes like a rocket, gearbox good, exhaust looks good so barring the scabs roud the arches, a nice car. I thought it had no service history so bid low. Then discovered it does have a very comprehensive history so revised my offer upwards.

He is thinking about it! :(

What is a reasonable priice for it? I am sooooo out of touch:(

Our Transit minibus is plated at 4250kg. I carefully don't mention this to customers.

I dare someone to start a rival thread called Stupid Question Amnesty so the two rival threads can go to war with each other like when Wimbledon split and became both MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon. Then we could see which is the best thread title.

Then everyone could be happy.

Fair enough, but this thread will have to flip off to Milton Keynes.

It was constantly drummed into me, as a child that "It's not all about you".

Sometimes people need to heed this pearl of wisdom occasionally. I know I do.

Then again, if everyone did maybe FaceBook (or inset social media of choice) probably wouldn't exist.

There's no 'I' in 'Team'.... An exhortation of an ex-boss!

I once got a freebie, coincidentally at a 'team building' bash...

From the 'Tack Organisation' = keyfob in a triangular shape, point down, printed and enamelled :-

YOU

WE

I

You.. big at the top of the triangle

We.. smaller across the mid range

I.. smallest at the pointed base.

FcukMe! .... Here it is!!

WTF is all this about?  When did we change from Autoshite to "managementspeak twaddle"?   I can't even tell if this aimed at Warren T or the mods, or someone else?

Stupid question:

Lady Grumpius' Focus has a few signs of early rust.  Usual places.  Wheelarches, back of the door frames, a bit of bubbling on a wing, etc.  Nothing structural.

I am assuming that the procedure is: Pick off paint (sand around to find rust), kurust, prime, paint, clear coat.

Is that right?  It doesn't have to be a factory-perfect finish but I'd aim for something reasonable.  I just want to stop the rot before it starts in earnest.

I tend to buy my tax in six month blocks, because skint, hence thinking it's around £140 twice a year.

You can do it monthly now, if that makes life easier for you, at no extra cost.

Yep, I started doing that in February with TAZ, since it worked out the same. Like a lot of things, I think it wasn't an option in Northern Ireland until quite recently - despite everything being administered through Swansea now, there's still weird variance - like the 16-digit driver numbers that Confused.com wants when you ask for a quote. NI licences don't have that - even though the licences come from the same  place. Mad.

the tin top is 500 quid a year to tax.

I had a floppy top 4 years ago nothing much wrong with them.there is a breather under the inlet manifold that blocks up causing oil leaks oh and one of the flimsy rods on the roof broke on mine.sold it for £750 but paid less than half that when bought.

At that age and mileage I’d want a really nice car for the money. No rust, no scratches or anything like that.

I’d keep looking. How do you feel about Audi A4 floppy tops?

I am a Bentley owner, therefore I hate VAG with a passion!  :) Seriously, wouldn't touch one with a barge pole or any VW no matter how good they may be (though they aren't!) I have messaged a guy about a SAAB that looks really nice.

Unfortunately they appear to have deleted that thread already.  As I said in my post yesterday being a mod or on a committee etc isn't easy, but there comes a time when you really should listen to member's opinions.  Or at least not pour fuel on the fire.

Or you can just keep digging and digging, like you're doing.

WTAF? Deleted it? Is this a joke?

I have really enjoyed this place but if that is the level we have reached it's pathetic.

It will do me good to have some time off I suppose, it certainly looks like I don't fit in here any more.

I appreciate the likes and messages I've received over the last couple of days over this but can we put this to bed now? Both myself and admin don't want any of us to have a meltdown over a title. How about a compromise where I'll name the thread Ask A Fellow Shiter A Question? Then everybody has won?
