High miles. Three weeks MOT. Last MOT fail was on excessive smoke.....

Might be fine. Might not be. Personally I wouldnt gamble on it unless I could afford to break or bin it at MOT time.

If my finances were tight and I needed a car, the last thing I would be buying would be big luxobarges with the potential to go catastrophically wrong at the drop of a hat.

Keep it simple, cheap, proven and something you can get parts from for pennies at a breakers yard.

Wait for the right car, don't rush into buying just anything.

Is it still possible to buy a classy brand new car?

I don't mean expensive looking, just good looking and tasteful?

Why is Halfrauds own brand oil five pounds a litre more than the equivalent Castrol Edge?

And I don't just mean I can buy the Castrol cheaper somewhere else, I mean it was on the same shelf in Halfrauds!

Halford like to wang up prices for whatever the legally required minimum period is, then later they can put it on "sale" at its normal price.

No, everything is shit. Amorphous blobs with swept-back teardrop shaped headlights, blingy chrome grill and the new fad seems to be ridiculously complex shaped rear light clusters that wrap around into the 3/4 panel. Even low spec shopping models are hotted up with low-pro tyres on big wheels and other pointless bling.

Even the most basic type of thing out there like a Sandero is a bit "racey" looking....

SanderoAccess-650x360.jpg

non-painted bumpers and steel wheels but it still has the slanty-eyed headlights and a honeycomb grill that would have made a 90`s boy racer cream his Addidas trackie bottoms.

If its possible to specify a new Range Rover without all the chrome stuck to the front and sides it would look pretty class IMO. I am struggling to think of anything else

You can have both- Peykan underneath, 405 on top.

What causes drivetrain shunt?  The 220SLi is suffering from it quite badly now, particularly on deacceleration.  I'm thinking maybe engine mounts but not sure if there's a good way to confirm this.

I think so, even a petrol with beige seats and a brown steering wheel if your awkward enough.

25 litres Millers Trident 5W40 delivered yesterday, £80, from Lubetechoil via ebay, worth keeping an eye on them for all sorts of oil/grease.

Halfords i only ever visit (online, despite there being one a mile away where i collect if buy anything) for their Christmas/New Year/half price or less offers.

And they have fucked up the replacement nicely....

Land-Rover-DC100-2.jpg

Swept back headlights, over complicated tail lights, chrome/plastic bling and it looks like every other SUV on the road.

Whatever it finally looks like in the flesh I will bet that if you lined it up next to an Evoque, a new Freelander and a RR the only way to tell them apart is likely to be the comparative sizes.

Jesus wept, is that the new Defender?

Where do you start, the wheels alone belong in Chelsea not on an unmade road.

Posted

Which leads to another stupid question; why have they halved the size of the boot? What's under there?

Driven back axle.

That's the FWD version, if you read the specification there's a CNG model.

That's the DC100 I think. It was pimped out a couple of years ago when they were cancelling the Defender the last time around....

The current "replacement" isn't due till 2018 at the earliest, and supposedly looks even worse. ..

Those 19 inch alloys will be great for twatting kerbs. Surely this will loose the farmers and utility companies that used the defender

What saddens me is that this must be what the market demands.

It's the second law of thermodynamics at work.

Entropy increases.

Everything turns to chaos and disorder.

Everything gets worse.
