I was going to suggest the same thing, my old Volvo did this.

Replacement rings for that were £3 each and dead easy to fit .... Not the case on all cars, so fingers crossed.

Civic had abs issues with intermittent light. Since replacing the driveshaft they have all gone. I think the crack in the drive shaft was causing the issue.

J R driveshafts are only £35 for complete drive shaft on focus so may be a cheaper fix than and ring

Moog - the reluctor ring is on the driveshaft, so when you replaced the driveshaft you replaced the ABS ring as well ;)

I had to buy a complete CV joint to make my hated Xantia's ABS work. About a month later a company in Arbroath, less than an hour's drive away from me, started doing them for pennies. Rot in Hell, W895WDA.

Yep knew that hence saying might be cheaper to replace the lot. :-)

The ring wasn't visibly cracked fine but driveshaft had been cracked for a while judging by the rust marks which I reckon had been flexing and messing up abs ring

Anyone brought a car in from the Republic of Ireland ? Would I just need to fill out a nova, mot then register it? It being the eu I guess there are no duties or vat to pay ?

The one i'm looking at is grey that looks black. But that could be the reason.

Doing some battery maintenance on the P6B yesterday, and found amongst other little things, that I needed to tighten up the fan belt.

This made me wonder - on modern cars, where you supposedly don't need to perform any underbonnet maintenance, how do they manage this? Do modern fan belts have an automatic tensioner, like a cam belt?

Lots of them have perma sprung tensioners.

I especially like the daughters Civic, you put a spanner on the tensioner to relieve the pressure and simply slide it off, same to refit.

Mind you on the 2.0 litre its bloody nigh on impossible to find an aftermarket belt that fits (and factors that used to be the dogs bollocks might as well open up as a wool shop) and a genuine is the wrong side of £40.

That's correct, and no import duty if car is bought from within EEC.

You drive it as a normal synchro 4 speed box, then move it fairly firmly to the right (you'll hear a hiss of air as the range shifts) and you've got the same 4 speed box again but in the higher range, vice versa for low range.

If you're a bit ham fisted you can mistakenly trigger the range change when you go for 3rd, and similarly trigger it the wrong way when you go for 6th going down, but that only happens when you first use it.

IIRC the shifts have air assistance too, so you hear a slight hiss as you select each gear, working right its good for the job.

I've heard that early Hinos had this box without air assistance and it was a pig, but thats only second hand hearsay, never tried one meself.

I like the box, many don't, but then i like a manual 430 old shape Axor (a shitists lorry, simple yough and no frills) with that box especially, its bloody old school with one of the most tractable lorry engines of recent years, lug right down to 800 rpm and you can still feel the power come on tap and the turbo start whistling as low as that.

As with all lorry boxes its miles ahead in useability compared to the utter shit that is the Arsetronic box of doom.

Does anyone recognise the silver lady? She seem to have been a bonnet mascot once over, presumably screwed to a car rather than a base. My dad had her forever but sadly it's too late to ask where she came from. Searching for girl/lady mascots brings predictable results but not the one I want. Any ideas?

Why do clutches judder when it's cold/damp outside? (assuming my car isn't broken because my last three have been like that? It goes away when things are up to temperature).

Given the trouble you'vr had so far I'd suggest here tbf- more likely to be as described etc.

we can likely also set up a shitely logistics shift to get it to you.

Got a budget and where are you located?

Our local Faceache selling group comes up with some gems now and again.

Maybe your area has one, i'm not on the bastard thing but SWMBO is.

Do a search for Cars up to £300/£500 ect in your area on Fbook . There usually a good 3 or pages to join up to then keep an eye on them for a week, just to see what gets offered numerous times

I suspect that in the 1920's & 30's people bought these to fit to their cars, whatever it was, so I don't think you'll find out which car it belongs to 'cos there aint one.

Oh-ho! - Bonham's, about 4/5ths of the way down http://www.kjnuk.com/bo100306.html

Lot No.182 Estimate: £200-300

'Amo' Automobile Mascot by Desmo, 1920s, good early example

in nickel-plated bronze, well-defined & sculpted female

nude figure; stamped makers name to base; mounted upon

ebonised turned wood plinth, height 16cm.

Hmm, I suspect yours has bigger boobies...

Cheers Steve, I reckon that's the one. Ours is much cleaner and doesn't have maker stamped on it bur rest looks good, they say 16cm, ours is 11.5cm without plinth. My Pa worked for Rootes in the 60's and had a minor hand in designing the Avenger, prior to that the he dabbled with bike racing including Vincents, gawd knows where he got it. Ta, Spike.

That's one reason that crossed my mind but I also thought a lot of Derby taxi drivers can't be wrong!

A bit too much going on a 310k £650 car for me, shit like steering yaw sensors controlling the auto box etc. Fuel and brake line go over tank and sub frame, £1000+ at dealer, £400 at indy. Front spring perches shear off chassis without warning, rear subframe bushes fall to bits. Nice comfy smooth well sorted car to live with daily. "sealed for life" boxes require servicing. Look at MOT advisories.
