I think I asked this before, but I forgot the answer so apologies.

 

All my moderns seem to wear the front tyres on the I side edge.

Are they to much toed in or toed out?

I side meaning inside? Toed out too much unless there are other faults so they've got too much camber.

P&O tried to stiff us on a bike trip many years ago on a trip to the Dutch GP, the price for one rider and a bike was more than for two and a bike. So all the one up riders just booked with a false pillion, just took a mate happy to give passport details. When we got to the port we claimed there had been an outbreak of food poisoning. I can't see how they can do something like that within their terms and conditions unless it's loaded to such an extent that it's unsafe? Other than the catch all we reserve the right to refuse travel to anybody for any reason, after all she could have been dropping it all at college then going back to the UK.

 

I think it just came down to 'we don't believe you and refuse to let you on'.  Can't really remember, it was 20 years ago scarily.

Does anyone know if flywheel magnets (on motorbikes) can be replaced?

 

 

Mine has some breaks but rather than shelling out €lots for a new one or waiting around for someone on ebay to go through the hell of removing it I wondered if its something that can be fixed with new magnets and gloy? Not even sure what to search for?

I’ve jb welded them on in the past but the correct position and polarity of the magnets is critical . Well on a small two stroke they are . Any cracks end up reading as another separate magnet and really messes up the ignition source coil .

There is a company just down the road from me that’s started to repair them I think . Bradford ignitions , in cornwall ( confusingly )

smart, cheers! I'll give them a call in the week. I wondered about DIY repairing but since i don't know how strong the original magnets are i'd just be buying something on spec and jb welding them in and hoping for the best. Replacing out the stator and RR and fire damage wouldn't be all that desirable.

I think out of the national chains Cromwell Tools would be the place to go. You definitely don't want to be using the same drills for wood and metal and mid-range wood bits (i.e. a name you've heard of) should be fine for most DIY purposes.

Proper wood bits are a lot easier to centre & don't drift as you start them. So as said it's worth having both.

My dad is forever moaning about how shit his drill bits are, and saying that he's definitely going to buy some decent ones.

He's been threatening to buy decent ones for at least 7 years now, so I am going to buy him some.

 

I know nothing about drill bits. Please can someone suggest some good bits, preferably available from Screwfix, toolstation, or online. Mostly used for metal, sometimes wood. If i need to buy 2 sets or whatever then fine.

I always use cobalt drills, the titanium coated type don't stand up to the abuse I give them. 

If drilling stainless steel use the slowest possible speed and some cutting fluid or a lot of water to keep the item cool.

Drilling speed is a major factor as is sharpness, too many people just go as fast as possible and blue the bit.

Don't buy the cheapest wood drills they are made of the softest metal and will literally twist like cooked pasta in the smaller sizes. Axminster tools are good - otherwise Beal workshop supplies had loads of wood bits on special,I tend to use spade type bits for speed on anything bigger than 10mm a worm bit usually gives a nicer finish though.

 

I might visit Lidl and look at the sharpeners later.

Phone question guys. I have an almost new iPhone 4s Global.  It was a Nephews in NZ and locked to EE.  It got lost and reported missing, probably to get a new phone. I want to go Vodaphone with Sim only.  Can't go back for a code to EE, so can it be unlocked by a shop or whizz kid? Not worth while?

 

 Can a mod shift this if in wrong place?  Cheers

Sharpness is the key to cutting, material/treatment is the key to maintaining sharpness.

Would have no issues with that other than putting chocks under the wheels at the other side

So providing the bit is sharp you could use some regular HSS bits and use the drill sharpener to keep them keen?

Probably not worthwhile, if reported stolen in NZ it *theoretically* will also be here and if unlocked would not get a signal due to being blacklisted.

 

Check the serial number on here before spending anything.

Yeah chocked on the other side. I wasn't 100% so I also stuffed a (probably rotten) wood post offcuts down the ramp too.

If you can find somewhere solid to jack to lift one end then spinning one of the ramps round 180 degrees would do away with the need for those posts

Cobalt drills for hardened metal. In fact better for everything really. What you drilling?

If you are still uncomfortable about being under it I have put ratchet straps round the wheels through the ramps before and they inspire confidence.
