I'm happy to see this saved. 5 tickets please.

It was an official 'factory' model, but the work was done for Citroen by Heuliez.

The previous owner is getting first refusal so it won't be getting raffled I'm afraid.

And if he’s not interested... I might be!

So, I went back a little bit more prepared than earlier and brought a suitable tow vehicle and A-frame just in case. I had a quick blast along the street and it seemed to drive ok so just continued driving until I got back to the unit...

It drives and handles well, the brakes seem ok but the pedal travel is quite long. The clutch slips quite badly, it's recently had the clutch cable replaced so perhaps it needs adjusted?

I stuck it on the ramp...

The outer sills look quite bad but I think the inner sills are ok, the floors are good and it's generally soilid underneath.

There's a couple of bits under the front wing that will need sorted but with the wing off it'll be easy enough to sort.

I am pretty optimistic that I can get it finished by next weekend but I'll just have to see how it goes. The owner did seem quite attached to it so I said I would get it roadworthy and give him first refusal when time came to move it on. He still has the logbook. I think he was sad to see it leave him but happy that it was going to be saved so I don't really want to let him down.

Carbodypanels4U.co.uk have pattern full sills for £50 each in stock, according to their website.they even include the b post bottom for a couple of inches.

The 'true spirit of Christmas' a gift of generosity that 'keeps giving' thread of the year...

FOAD doesn't 'talk the talk' in this thread.

Not my sort of car tbh, but absolutely great job all concerned. Amazing what people on here can and will do to save a crusty old car in need of saving from the crusher!

It’s nice that the previous owner is being given first refusal too, they obviously love the car but can’t do the work to save it themselves.

What’s the ultimate plan for this? Just weld it up, get it an MOT and send it on it’s way again or something more involved?

That's the plan anyway. It would be cool if we could do some kind of trusted Visa loan scheme where each person took it on and did a little bit of work along the way but I'm not sure how well that would work.

I was considering just patching up the sills because it would cost as little as possible but if anyone wants to chip in for a pair of sills that would be great.

I’d be in for helping with the sills costs! Let me know and I can bung you a few quid.

I'm confused here who's exactly is this car?

I thought sixcylinder wanted help acquiring it for himself hence my offer of help to get it safely stored till he could collect.

Foad has the car the owner has the v5 so if people chip in to pay to fix it that seems strange, I think the decision of who's actually the owner needs to be made first.

From following this thread I think it's thus:

I believe Mr6C heard about it. Being a Visa man and a rare Visa, he wouldn't want it scrapped. It would have been scrapped as most garages now have zero interest in welding up cars. Thus Mr6C wanting to save it and adding it to the 6C families ever growing pile of project cars. However FOAD elected to recover it and as he's a pro welder will fix it up.

It appears that the owner is still very attached to it and likely will buy it back from FOAD - no doubt will work out far cheaper than if he got a garage to repair/restore it. Probably cheaper up in Scotland, but still could easily near a grand.

If the owner doesn't want it back then I guess it'll be on the open market. No doubt Mr6C will be all over it in that case. Probably others here too.

Hopefully FOAD has a receipt to say the car is his. V5 != Proof of ownership. I personally would have taken the V5 though. Or a copy at the very least.

Not massively flush at the mo, Xmas etc, but will pop a £5 in.

FOAD, you legend.

Re ownership and costs, I’ll be very surprised if anyone ends up feeling ripped off here. Let’s be a little bit glass half full, folks.

I was of the understanding that the whole point in this escapade was to save a Visa. I'm not in it for financial gain, If I was I would have made sure I took the V5 and sold the plate on to the highest bidder. Did the bare minimum to get it through a test and sold it on eBay for mega ££££ profits.

Instead, I've taken the time to collect the car, spent a couple of hours with the owner talking and I'm trying to formulate a plan which ensures the future of the car.

I am quite happy to do the welding for very little/free and if anyone else wants to donate to the "Save a Visa" Fund or come around and help out with the car then that would be nice.

Happy to donate twenty quid towards a pair of sills if required. Ideally on the proviso that it doesn't immediately get plate raped...

Do we get a "this cill is sponsored by <insert shiters here>" put on in pigeonshit weld?

The plate will definitely be staying with the car.

If anyone wants to take responsibility for collecting the parts/funds then it would mean it was less open to abuse for example I wouldn't be able to just spend the money on a new set of tyres and not do any of the welding.

personally, happy to pay you direct.

Likewise, If you then go and spend it all on tyres or strippers I'll just chalk it down to experience and remember to bear it in mind next time!

Send us a pm and I can do a bank transfer or whatever.

I don't think for one minute you would be making megabucks out of this deal I was just curious as to who owns the car that's all,

Sixcylinder you the original owners or someone else, once you started talking about trusted shitter loan schemes I wasn't sure whats what.

I would be more than happy to chip in if you owned the car but I'm not in the habit of walking down the street and sticking 20 quid notes under car wipers just because they look like they deserve to live on,

If the car is still the owners and they want it on the road and to drive around in it im sure they won't be expecting it done for free.

FFS!

If Mrs May could weld, worth a $hit.... I bet she'd be onto this 'Save - a - Citroen' like a cat.

A whole world away from the twisting and intrigue of BREXIT.. Oh, wait......

Welding may not faze an experienced hand, but the previous owner surely had rose tinted lenses about the condition of the sills. Oil leak was mentioned on the fail sheet too.

My first thought was to see the Visa Cab recovered from the road so it did not end up seized and crushed!

Next was for it to go to an owner who had the ability to do the work or have it done.

If all else failed then I was happy to take it and store it until an owner or repair garage could be found. The only trouble with that plan was I am 350 miles away.

While I would like to try a Visa Cabriolet I have 3 running Visas and a project Visa GT. I don’t want to be greedy with the Visas there are only 30 to go round in the UK!

This outcome with Foad rescuing it and now doing the welding is better than I could have hoped for. Thanks all and especially Foad.

Why not do it like a roffle, work out how much is needed for cills and other parts and divide by number of 'tickets'. we can then buy as many of said 'tickets' as we want until all numbers taken?
