TRW Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I've just gone and bought a X Type diesel with 2 months test for £170. Pictures to follow tomorrow on the horror that now sits outside my house and not in a breakers yard.WCPGW? privatewire, JoeBai, Supernaut and 23 others 26
TRW Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 Here is the standard issue Ebay advert for it - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-X-type-diesel-/192639143165?hash=item2cda300cfd%3Ag%3AknMAAOSwucxbg~l6&nma=true&si=1sPLgF5sHf0IGrqDp1BNxPuSLLQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 oldcars 1
rml2345 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Outstanding. Are the later ones of these just as prone to catastrophically rotting from the inside out as the earlier cars?
sierraman Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Limp home mode and the lights flashing... I love their optimism about it being the EGR. TRW, bolognasal spray and Broadsword 3
fatharris Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Reading that, the only thing I can think of about the previous owner is "lazy twat". TRW 1
sierraman Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Says to me it’s gone into limp cock mode, they’ve had it in the garage, he’ll have said it could be X,Y,Z but it’s going to cost you to find out. The EGR on these is a ten minute job to remove. If it was so simple they’d have cleaned it out for £20 or so. Either that or fitted a restrictor plate to it. Is it the actual EML or is it the glow plug light flashing?
Kiltox Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 /buys shares in steelworks bolognasal spray, twosmoke300, Supernaut and 4 others 7
sierraman Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 /buys shares in steelworksNot a lot of value in ferrous oxide
oldcars Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Balls of steel, and sills of wob (possibly) tooSavvy, drivewaymyway and bolognasal spray 3
Supernaut Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I was more thinking along the lines of the steelworks making a killing selling the metal required to weld this fucker up. Kiltox, timolloyd, TRW and 1 other 4
sierraman Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 If you can weld that’s not so much of an issue, I’d be more worried about the engine trouble.
TRW Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 Things I discovered on the drive home:Its just the EML light, no glowplug symbol. It is happy to sit at 70, if a bit slow to get there. The pedal box is small (i'm use to the BL pedal setup), Reminds me of Fords of the past. And the biggest problemI've bought a Ford Orion Diesel in a fancy dress. Supernaut, oldcars, Kringle and 9 others 12
sierraman Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Smoke? Sometimes on these if they won’t pick up when you boot it the actuator for the turbo effectively bakes itself. I’m assuming we’re on about the 2.0 Ford unit? You can usually isolate turbo actuator or VNT problems by giving it a severe hiding, if it goes into limp home when it should be on the overboost then there’s your problem. Still though I’d definitely give the EGR a clear out to rule that out. Worst case and it’s bean cans the Cat if it’s the same as a Mondeo diesel and it’s OE is worth some coin.
TRW Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 I was more thinking along the lines of the steelworks making a killing selling the metal to TRW to weld this fucker up. Then having to Ebay a kidney for the following FTP engine repairs (of there being many, knowing these things)EFA. Supernaut 1
Kiltox Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I was more thinking along the lines of the steelworks making a killing selling the metal required to weld this fucker up.Bingo.
Wack Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Do you know anyone called AUSAZ who owns a MGF TF , there's the money right there

Pictures to follow tomorrow on the horror that now sits outside my house and not in a breakers yard.WCPGW? jumpingjehovahs Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 That looks 100x better than I expected! The eBay pics did it no justice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk AMC Rebel 1
Isaac Hunt Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I like them, had several. This one looks tidy, poverty spec cloth interior and wheels but the body looks to be in good shape. Not mega miles and current ticket, you could be on to a winnah
TRW Posted September 3, 2018 Author Posted September 3, 2018 How was that £170? See previous posts about how ferrous to WTF did my Jaguar turn into a colander like these things are. The best time to have bought it would have been when it was new, as seen here Not this weekend, as I did. Still, I enjoy getting called a Prick and not having people let me out at junctions, or flipping me the bird. I never knew I was so liked.
rantingYoof Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Those seats, man! Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Vince70 Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 That’s a serious bargain at £170 surely that will sell more for scrap if it didn’t work out. It looks a real straight car and once sorted should last you years I imagine if your prepared to get the underseal and waxoyl out plus I also love the spec and colour, it really shows we live in a throw away mentality society. It Makes my S type look expensive at £300
omegod Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Turbo actuator on these are often a broken internal wire that can be home re-soldered, as said the cat can be worth more than you paid for the car depending on the two letters at the end of the code which is visible from the engine bay, CA and RA are good I recall djimbob 1
TRW Posted September 5, 2018 Author Posted September 5, 2018 I think this may become a long thread, akin to a Mr Testicles or Wobbler one. Just without anything interesting. Just a shit Fakeauar. This car is doing Swansea to Swindon tomorrow morning for a job interview.I'm putting my mortgage and life plans into a car I have only done 190 miles in without checking the oil*This will end well.OH OH OH OH! I checked the sills, Solid. Previously welded and well undersealed. As you were, so stand down.*Father COCK (TRW) snapped the dipstick off when attempting to check it. On calling all 4 breakers yards surrounding Swansea, searching Gumtree, Google and Ebay none can get one to me before my birthday in a weeks time.Swindon or not? PRACE BETS NOW! michael t, somewhatfoolish and Brodders 3
STUNO Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 The car will love the trip, you will get the job. No bet praced because WINNAH !! AMC Rebel 1
