Classiest car ever

Morgans are deeply emarrassing, and have never conveyed any type of class whatsoever. They are cars for boorish, overweight men and they have been since about 1950.

Bit close to home that one, aren't we mainly boorish overweight men on here ;-)

Indeed ! In fact, I absolutely love Morgans. But I neither am, have ever been, or will ever be "classy".

Sure. But which of the three (if any) makes him classy ?

Emigrating to Switzerland.

Bentley R type fastback, look at the arse on that. The regular coupes aren't bad but the fastback makes them look ordinary.

These were, I think by Mulliner, James Young did some nice S2 fastbacks but I can't find any pics of them.

Not really classy, but I'd prefer one of these tbh: technically a much better bet; OHV V8, a proper automatic box and big hydro brakes.

And they're a thing of beauty - 1949 Cadillac Sedanette Club Coupe.

Sadly not Rev....I was considering Chrysler products of the early '60s, impressive they may be, classy they ain't!

I have utterly failed to find anything American which has class.

Don't think Camus was ever happy about anything...

You may* have a point there.

The rolls-royce does not qualify, as per my comment about scrap metal yard owners above...

My Grandad was scrap metal yard owner in the 60s/70s/80s/90s. He refused to own or drive any Mercedes or Jaguar. Only dodgy scrapyard owners owned them.

Rolls Royces were for getting married in. You did not own one as you would have the taxman constantly investigating you.

70s he drove Austin 1800s/etc. 80s to 90s was luxury Renault barges.

His son/my uncle had a very different view on cars though...

The general rule is if a car has ever been driven by somebody wearing a baseball cap, they are exempt from this thread

My boss, a long time ago, had a +8.

He was a very slim, fit, suave and urbane Swiss photographer and quite classy.

I used to drive the Morgan.  Never considered it classy but it was fun (and frightening).

I be not classy in the slightest.

Well, as someone who owned a succession of Morgans, Barrett is off my Christmas card list; although in my defence I have not always been overweight. (Never thought of a Morgan as classy either, I used mine as everyday cars)

Oh well.

Whilst I'd love a 1960 Cadillac Coupe, it would have to come after a 1962 or 1963 Lincoln Continental. Hard top sedan though - none of the convertible nonsense.

This was a landmark in US car design. No fins, just enough chrome. Any 'class' is in the context of its time and place, the US. It caused a major rethink at Cadillac. It's an absolutely perfect design - detailing, proportions, all spot on.

So I seem to have burned my entire day's allocation of "likes" on this one thread, as fast as one of these technological marvels getting through a tank of five-star on the way to the Cote d'Azur or the ski chalet...

OK, I was wrong.  Apologies everyone.

THIS is the classiest car ever:

Classiest Car Ever (in the context of Autoshite) right there; a luxury* brand from a bread & butter manufacturer. Also, nice titfer.

Classiest car ever in general is totally subjective and no consensus will ever be reached. I'm currently torn between the Lagonda Rapide and Facel Vega. Either or both ways, I'm rong.

As an overweight , middle aged man, I recently wore a baseball cap for the first time.

The resason?

To drive this to Nice, I know I've got no class, but I feel that my misdemeanour shouldn't detract from the car's . I was wearing a Jam T-shirt and flowery shorts if that helps

I think a lot of people were happy to cut you a lot of slack, but the flowery shorts admission might just have killed it.

It did cross my mind that you might be unhappy about my sweeping generalisations, but you know I love you really. Actually, I have driven a Morgan and it was quite fun - a three wheeled one from the '20s - but I wouldn't want to own one.

The shorts in question, pictured in the very epitome of an expensive car with zero class.post-17414-0-66569600-1535385004_thumb.jpeg

I don't think anybody who attended the Shitefest that coincided with a Morgan club gathering would regard Morgans as having any class at all. People with class don't buy MOG plates from DVLA.

Also- the moment anybody buys anything on the grounds of perceived class it devalues all existing examples of that item.

I wish I could easily lay my hands on the photo of the Morgan I saw with a number plate that read 'MORGASM', which should draw a line under it once and for all. Gary saw it too, he'll confirm I'm not making it up.

The line was already well and truly drawn for me anyway. What was the actual number of the MORGASM plate? I can't work it out.

Edit- MOR645M

The minute someone proclaims their car to be classy, it's not classy.

It's the same as any models with "collectible" on the box, or food with "delicious" on the wrapper.

It may be, until you say it is. Then it's definitely not.

Re the super snipe, surely an older sit up and beg one is more classy?

By which of course i mean older.
