Hi all, I'm new to the fold. Presently the owner of a Rover 214 SLI from 1995 - hoping I may find acceptance here where my colleagues have none :)

I mistakenly bought a Laguna II whilst drunk on eBay and stumbled into Autoshite in a panic to find out their common ailments. Seller crashed the car so I dodged the bullet and sale never completed, but decided I liked it here, I lurked unregged for a while as I wasn't arsed making an account. Eventually did and here I am. Currently a bus driver driving a Xsara HDI, MG ZS and W210 E200K.

Those are a bit small for bus work aren't they?  2/10, needs moar RWD Volvos.

And welcome!

Hi everyone, the thread on "Emma" the grey grille Sierra brought me here from flickr, and if this place includes people prepared to save that car then it must be a good place!

I don't have any autoshite of my own, due to having no garage, no mechanical ability and a girlfriend who would not appreciate having an old shitter parked on the drive.  So I have a 2004 Mondeo and a 2009 Focus.

What I do have is a load of old car brochures, which I have scanned for anyone who is interested in such things:

Hello all, I'm Raj and have been obsessed with cars for as long as I can remember, particularly 90s fords as I grew up with them.

I recently acquired my favourite ford of the era, a late Mondeo Mk1 on a 'P'. It cost me £300 and is still a great drive, better than a Mk3 I had a few years back. Would've preferred a saloon but with so few left you can't be too choosy and this one is very clean for its age.

Hi everyone, another brought here by the Base model sierra thread, I knew about the car from flickr but I had to join up here when I heard of what was going on! Though I'm surprised I didn't already have an account here.

My current cars are:

99 Mondeo Mk2

72 Cortina Mk3

82 Taunus TC3

80 Cavalier Mk1

Hi I was introduced to this forum by a friend. My automotive history started on bikes as I couldn't afford a car when young. Once in full time employment I bought an indestructible L reg 306 derv. I carefully invested a redundancy payment with a guy in a pub in exchange for a p reg vectra, which ate cam belts and engines until I decided to run it into the ground and then apart from an oil and radiator leak refused to die or fail MOTs for too many years. I now run a 2002 1.8 ovlov S40. I am also restoring my second bike, which is vfr400 nc21.

Hello Autoshiters, Am a bit new and don't know if I qualify for this site. What I have is LHD and french so I'm thinking, thats a good start. Its also from 1988 and is a Pug 305 van. Maybe a few points there.                                                                                                                                        It started out fairly shite but after owning it for 16 years, ( new engine, gearbox ,driveshafts, bearings, exhausts, brakes, bla bla, ) I think it may not be shite anymore.         Its got pepperpot ally's ! !           Not sure if they are shite really. They kinda look ok. So I'll leave it down to the voters. I would say in mitigation that I have had some serious shite in the past.

LHD 305 van sounds unusual and interesting! And that's what autoshite is all about!!

Welcome to all you new folk!!

I started lurking around Christmas when I started entertaining the idea of buying a car again after an unfortunate encounter with Volvo S40 ownership. It didn't quite work out, since my current travelling-about view is still something like this:

...but work changes seem to suggest I'll be pulling the trigger on a sub-£200 car in the next week or two, so I might end up with something truly awful enough to be worth registering to talk about soon...oh dear.

Hello, in the finest tradition of doing things arse about face I now post here having bought, collected and posted about the newly acquired Skoda Favorit.

Having lurked and been entertained by the members here for a good year or so now is the time to say " I, state your name, drive an old cheap car and need to publically confess" and join Autoshite.

My car owning history started in 1993 aged 21 with an 82 Y Skoda Estelle 120 LE in Caramel.

Bought £300 sold £175. Had it a year and a bit.

83 Y Austin Ambassador 1.7L with PAS in Emberglow. Bought £750 off my Dad. Sold £250 6 months later having done 20,000 miles private hire work and spent £1100 in parts and labour. Killed me financially. Cabbing at 24mpg meant earnings to fuel spend ratio of 4:1. However one night running back in from Shepshed I did flash a BMW 5 series out the outside lane of the M1 possibly the wonder wedges finest hour.

87 E Renault 21 Savanna GTS 1.7 bought £1350 with 102,800 on and plated and ready to earn with. Sold £5 for scrap with 200,000 on. Great car. 38 mpg cabbed at 8:1 falling to 6:1 as fuel prices increased. Then used as a van and trailer tower when I retrained as a gardener and landscaper and binned off cabbing. Cylinder head went, game over.

90 H Citroen BX 1.9 TGD estate bought £550 used for work as Renault. 45 mpg towing a trailer. Quality. MOT finished it off after 30,000 miles needed all the pipes plus a few other bits.

86 D mk3 Ford Transit 2.5 D crew cab tipper for work. Awesome. Drove it until the chassis cracked in 2008.

Car now not used for work so 91 J Ford Granada Ghia 2.0i DOHC auto bought £290. Metallic green. Lovely. Had it 3 years. Sold for £175 as it had a single digit registration number.

91 J Peugeot 205 Trio sx 1.1 bought £180. Figure to change £5 wooohooo. Loved it. Surely the best small car of the last 30 years.

Given away to a friend in London as we left the UK to live in Adelaide South Australia where I bought an 85 Mitsubishi RC Colt 1.4 in red.$1350. Awesome little car, drove it all over South Australia and along Great Ocean Rd to Melbourne and back along the highway. Had the super shifter for power and economy. Manufactured in South Australia at Tonsley Park. The engine plant was at Lonsdale ( ..ring any bells). Couldn't settle long term so returned to the UK to a village outside Nottingham and in a hurry bought a 95 N Toyota Carina E hatch 1.8 lean burn £699 which had had 15 owners.....jetlag stopped me from asking questions and an ex Glasgow City Council LDV Convoy crew cab tipper for work. Toyota good, comfortable, reliable and economical ( average 40 mpg). LDV was perfect, vinyl seats, transit 2.4 Duratorque. Slow, and noisy but brilliant. Sold 4years ago when I changed from self employed Full time to Employed.

Traded the Carina E for a 98 S Toyota Avensis 1.8 GS estate 4 years ago. Avensis has same 7AFE lean burn giving 40 mpg. Great car now with 172,800 miles, bought with 143,000 for £799 less £190 for Carina in PX.

Newly bought Skoda Favorit for Mrs WW from the shadow.

There it is 20 odd years of value motoring .

Seeing Triggers retro road tests and threads with car brochures brings back memories, I had quite a collection which I sold as we were reducing our possessions for shipping to Australia.

Hello Jeff.

A warm, if belated, welcome.

Afternoon folks, got to hear about this place from a couple of members I work with.

Anyway, I'm a serial shite buyer, currently I have a rusty Sprinter, a bargain basement E38 and an old Land Rover that is in pieces. Oh, and a ZZ-R 1100 saved from the breakers and awaiting a overhaul.

I'm mainly based in the south west, but get up to North Wales regularly.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi new joiner here was directed here by a guy on youtube.

Been noseing through the pictures and wow the old Austin Allegro been pining after one of these for ages but I aint mechanically savy  enough to keep one or any other older car on the road. My first car was a Mini then a Vauxhall viva with no floor pan lol a Vauxhall Nova then a ford escort estate currently own a Corsa C due for scrappy and just took a clio Mk2 2001 over from my oldest and am looking to restore it as much as I can It has a small oil leak and am thinking maybe get some oil seal stuff ive used before off ebay?

Anyway just a quick intro

Hello, new here - just joined up today having heard about this place from another forum. Into bikes and into cars, currently have a yamaha FZ1 which I keep nice, and a honda civic 1.6 sport vtec which I dont fuss over too much aside from routine servicing so it gets me to work and back reliably every day (only let me down once due to a dirty IVAC valve thing fucking up the idle and general running)

Anyway, judging by what I have seen so far this is a geat place for automotive wins and tales of extra-ordinary cost-effective engineering solutions to keeping interesting (!) vehicles running
