Ford Mondeo Base - Sale aborted.

B.I, I think you acted impeccably throughout, and did what you could. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't fancy the risk of getting burned again.

I didn't realise you had copped any criticism, I thought most people had been full of praise...but if you did you can hold your head up high and tell them in no uncertain terms to shut up.

I reckon its worth keeping an eye out for when it comes back up for sale.  Hopefully by then the seller won't be being so friggin difficult and it will be an actual bargain for someone.

Mainly me I know.

We think differently.

In the past I bought a car for someone, engine went the week after, replacement engine £100, I fitted it free.

Water pump went the week after, new pump and timing belt, free.

I never heard the last of it, crap car, crap engine, crap water pump.

It ran fine for 3 years, sailed through MOT's and was still a crap car or so they said. Sierra as well.

I now point people in a cars direction and leave them to it.

Apologies for my previous posts, bit harsh some of them.

I realised you were missing for a short while and have missed you.

Could you not help yourself to the wheel trims? Won't stop him getting to work and probably £50 back via ebay if needed.

It's a difficult situation and I hope the guy is genuine and is good to his word.

Good luck.

I think you did all the right things BI, ignore any criticism, it's all nonsense.

Cambridge to Milton Keynes each day.

If the current owner ever reads this though, this is the reason he doesn't have any money, even more so than the broken Insignia on finance. If he's serious about the job he needs to move house, or if he wants to stay in the same house he needs to change jobs.

Onwards & upwards BI, who knows what could be around the corner

Meh. I do 100 miles a day. I adore Cambridge and the way we live, and I love my job which is just outside London. I’m not minded to swap either. However, I’m paid handsomely for doing very little - where as this chap is probably grafting for his money.

Banger boys’ll be on that in 10, 9...

Might be less than 30 roadworthy base models now. I'm at my four car limit, but if I can help someone do a save, I will.

I might have a Speedo cable. The washer fail is probably due to the connectors off the pump behind the front bumper. New screen a pain, but autoglass still have them...

I've messaged them with a couple of questions.

1) £160 is the lowest price.

2) It has to go today or it's being scrapped.

Posted

"Save this classic from the scrap man", says the ad.

Yes, well, a lot of people tried extremely hard to do exactly that two months back...

**sigh**

Some sellers.

I think BI has given up on it. Therefore, please buy it and roffle it.

If this was nearer it'd be an absolute no-brainer.

I don't blame Bornite in the slightest if he's choosing to sit this one out - certainly went above and beyond earlier in the year, while getting a bizarre amount of heat for it... let's hope that:

1) someone manages to step up to the plate in time; and

2) 'Amber', or whoever the seller may be, is actually willing to sell the car this time round as per the dictionary definition of the word, rather than the little-known Cambridgeshire variant whereby a vendor accepts money for their item but still wants to keep using it as before...

I'd be game for a roffle on this, ferries and all. I've a longstanding Mondeo itch to scratch and Mk1s and Mk2s are all but extinct round here...

EDIT: JJ0063 - just to be clear, all eyes are firmly on you, lad... ;)

Put the Beano annual 1996 down (every boot sale has one) and get to the Mondeo. Now!

The asking price is presumably net of the deposit monies already received?

Posted

Well, one might like to think that the price is net of previous deposit...

I mean, if I'd had to pull a sale due to circumstances beyond my control, I'd imagine I'd be contacting the person who'd already put down a deposit and give them first refusal BEFORE slapping it up online to the general public.

I'd like to think so, anyway. But I'm not sure whether they did/didn't do this.

I reckon BI acted in an extremely gracious manner over this one. My take on it is that the seller is extraordinarily disorganised rather than actively malicious, but I think BI made it known upthread that he would be having no more to do with it - understandably.

I'd still like to see this one arrive within the AS fold though, despite the unfortunate pissing-about previously. After all... it's not the car's fault its owner's a binlid!

EDIT: JJ- didn't mean to put the pressure on, and few folk could manage to retrieve something solo... still, interested in how this one may play out.

I'm just hoping that the work is underway as we speak to rescue it, would hate to see such a fine conveyance raced.

I can hear the beavertail coming up the road. Worth £160 though.

I'd have just scrapped the fucker though to be fair, I've had the t shirt of selling £200 cars on Bumtree.

Having dealt with the pondlife that come to look at 200 quidders on the internet Id have weighed it in too.

The last time i sold a 250 quidder the guy gave it a 2 hour inspection over two days before telling me he would have bought it, if it wasnt such "strong money"

Never again

I once sold a slightly ropey 518i E28. Various scummers came to look at it - it was up for £275 - the last one who turned up in a fucked 505 estate and told me the 518i 'wasn't clean enough'. I was speechless.
