Just got home in the V6 XM having done 625 miles since yesterday morning. All done on a single tank full of petrol. Very grateful for working air-con too. These cars are superb!

And the object of the journey, finding a flat for my daughter ready for when she starts work in September, was achieved icon_e_biggrin.gif Mind you, the cost of accommodation in the south east beggars belief...

My family runs a roofing wholesales company in the middle of nowhere in Kent using old DAF 45s, 1 of which originally belonged to a paper manufacturers in Ashford who ran a fleet of 6 or 7 of them from new until they went bust. I used to see their trucks out when doing my paper round way back when. 1 of them ended up at another Kentish haulage firm and I remember it passing me by 1 day when I was doing a summer job for the family 11 years ago.

Having chatted to my Dad recently about the current ones being eyed up to be turned into horseboxes I saw a 45 horsebox tonight on the way back to my car in Portsmouth heading towards me and the IOW ferry, joked to myself "it would be funny if this is 1 of the ex-KPC lorries", and it only bloomin' was the 1 that ended up down the road.

I relayed this to my sister, who in the dryest of responses described me as "Unique"...

Mine has cupholders which are nigh on useless, better being a cubby hole I think! been to scrappy today and contemplating fitting face-lift grill, rear electric windows And dash from a cd model in there. Not sure how easy or hard mirrors and rear electric windows would be to fit as well as the rear reading lights

keep your eyes open for facelift door mirrors they bigger!

smoked rear lights look nice from cdx

the face lift dash is one piece whereas yours will be 2 but they are interchangable

has yours got "puddle lights" in the doors or just reflectors?- nice little upgrade if not

all the dash switches just plug in when you take out blanks and are pre-wired to sidelight circuit if you want a less povo feel!

Yesterday, I had to do emergency school run cover in the afternoon. It was disgustingly hot, even with all of the windows open - on the lanes around here, you just can't get enough speed up to generate any sort of airflow.

However, it is a grin because yummy mummies.

Had a few drinks the other night. A bit sozzled, both me and Mrs_Pillock.

Me: "hey, now you're drunk, I could do anything I wanted"

<theatrical winking>

Mrs_P: <pause> "You are not buying a Volvo."

SWMBO is similar, though as the Kia now appears to be held in very high regard I'm pushing the boundaries of common decency.

We were at B&Ms buying useless tat the other day and about four cars along there was a car which I liked.

I said "oooh, haven't seen one of those in ages!"

She said "oooh, I really like that. Why do you keep bringing shit home when you could get a nice car like that?"

The car?

A purple over beige S-reg Ssangyong Musso.

Indeed. I've been enjoying going to pick Lobster_Jnr up from school a lot more this week for some reason!

Don't think mines got either lights or reflectors. There is a cd triple facelift in scrapyard and a couple of facelift ones in so parts are available.

Ignore the looks and buy one, proper old-school 4x4 which actually works well and adores veg, with its OM602 5 pot turbo. Fit engine to a 124 once the Musso is knacked.

My car insurance is due in a couple of weeks so been doing the dreaded 'compare the meerkats' routine and also, I've tried a few more direct. I know that the insurance company you are with will always try to dry bum you so just waiting for the renewal to come through (to confirm what I fully expect to be a ridiculous quote) to go with one of the others quoting £165 ish... good being old... when it comes to insurance at least!

The renewal came this morning... £165!

WTactualF?

When I did the comparison thing, my current company were a hundred quid more. So, for the first time in decades, I shall stay with an insurer for a second year. I am amazed.

Second grin.

Yesterday sat on the green (with the dogs natch') I hear a big bike coming up the road, sounded like an Aprillia RSVR4, V4 thing with a fruity exhaust. I may not be able to ride a bike anymore (unless my left leg is in a REALLY good mood and will allow me to change gear... or I ride an old Brit bike) but I do still utterly love them so watch/listen out for them.

Lines of cars coming up towards me and I'm quite surprised/impressed that the bike isn't being a knob and thundering past them all and it's getting closer and closer and I still can't see it? Finally, it sounds like it's right opposite me but all there is is an Audi estate type thing... Yup, that's it!

Popping and banging on the overrun, banging up through the gears and then back down all with a lovely off-beat howl - not a V8, do they put the V10 in  a smallish estate? It definitely had a 'sports' exhaust and sounded bloody fantastic, better than the Ferrari that comes up the road every time the sun shines (this road is know locally as 'millionaires row' as every house is several multiples of millions - and there are not many of them).

I really don't like Audi's but that noise could DEFINITELY  change my mind!

I've finally got a proper regulator for my mig so I can now actually see how much gas is coming out. I always resisted as I thought they where like 40 quid or something but when I went to get my hobby weld gas they had them for 18 quid. Result.

So last night I welded on all the pissy semi captive bolts on the cortina bumpers. which should make taking them on and off easier. While I was at it the Rovers rear number plate light mounting bolts had sheared off so I drilled them out and welded in m4 bolts.

2 new toys made the job easier. 1 a pillar drill. It's only 1 speed but it drill so much faster than a hand drill. 2 a power file. I got one from ALDI and it's fuggin ace. So good for cleaning up small parts/getting into awkward bits.

On the downside my P6 rear bumper is basically scrap. There's a big jaggy rust hole appeared in it, which is the perfect size for decapitating squirrels/removing small childrens fingers.  I've put a bolt and big fuck off washer through it just now, which looks shite. There's a decent one on ebay just now for 50 groats but I'm skint.

I popped to my mate today who's mx5 I welded up, put the engine and box in for him then left him to it so he could plug everything in a couple of weeks back, he got stuck at the point of everything plugged back in but no spark, so I started checking for voltages and when I took the crank sensor plug off I realised that it was the maf sensor plug that had been put in the wrong place, so I popped the correct plug on and it still didn't spark, so I then had a poke around and saw the crank sensor was too far away from the 4 contacts on the crank pulley, i adjusted it closer and the damn thing fired straight into life, it's been sitting there 2-3 weeks with various people looking at it scratching their heads and less than an hour with me and the thing is purring, he was estate, i am a winner

Been to 2 superb gigs in the last 5 days, I saw Xavier Rudd in Portsmouth which was excellent in a mellow, world music kind of way - he is also an amazing multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, didgeridoo, harmonica, mandolin, and assorted percussion. His backing band were also very very good.

Any yesterday, TobyD and I went to the o2 in Bournemouth to see the Cat Empire who played an absolute blinder of a show. They had the crowd jumping around and going crazy with infectiously upbeat music. It was really great to be in a room with 700 other people who were just incredibly happy. I last saw them in 2006 and we had to run to get the last train home so missed the last 1/3rd of the show - we were gutted! If you ever get a chance to see them I'd firmly recommend it - old or young you'll have a great time.

Going to see Less Than Jake at the end of this month too. It's been ages since I last went to a gig, and I'm glad I'm back in the habit again now!

Watering the garden this evening and turned the hose thing to mist. Then just held it over my head for at least 5 mins.

Soaked but what bliss.

A quick clear up in the garage allowed me to find stuff and realise I had more space left than I thought.

I normally try about once per year to see them - I don't care that as they get older, I get older.... always a great gig.

Went to see NOFX and Lagwagon on Monday night. Also awesome, 1500 people there and I reckon 1200 of them were active in the pit :)

It's really odd, they are the only ska-punk band of that era that I've never seen, I've seen Reel Big Fish about half a dozen times but never managed to have money/be in the right place to see LTJ. I'm very much looking forward to it!

Where did NOFX and Lagwagon play?

I've left my phone in the barn I was working at today,  it will be back with me tomorrow night.  Tomorrow I'm working with my friend in a different barn miles from where anyone can find me and they have no way of getting hold of me.
