Just won myself a pair of tickets to the Bromley Pageant this Sunday via facebook!, I'm well chuffed!, :D

Does anyone know if you can buy extra tickets on the gate or do they need to be booked in advanced from the website?.

The World Cup starts today, I'm going to borrow fifty sovs off a friend and tomorrow it's a night on the ale and watching England play. Happy days.

Good call. Its ace being able to watch some random match any night of the week.

My local Polski bar is showing all matches, plus, during the match, you can get a pint (Carlsberg) & either a burger or hot dog off the BBQ for £3.50. Happy days.

Also, just been playing with the cat in the garden. She was bombing about the place chasing butterflies & allsorts like an utter headcase. Very cute.

Nice one! Believe extra tickets can be bought on the gate. It will be busy though - this is one big event! Am going to try and get around the whole thing for once this year. Wish me luck!

Last couple of days on my commute to and from work I've been looking rather nervously at my oil pressure gauge which has been reading rather a lot lower than normal. Like 'just off zero'. As the old Rover V8 lump doesn't run much oil pressure anyway this is a worry.

Today, which was a day off work anyway I burbled off to a friends garage to check it out. Half way there and I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was reading below zero, something which only a Rover could possibly do. I also noticed that the fuel gauge had dived somewhat, and that it wasn't running at its usual temperature. "Oh bugger' thought I, and then remembered that when the alternator popped on the 4.2 the same set of gauges gave the same readings.

Checked the voltage at the battery. 9.4v. Bugger. A dead alternator. Took the alty off and scuttled off to see the legend that is Dave the Alternator bloke.

Dave - "Ah, that's a Bosch unit, much better than the Lucas one on your other SD1. Luckily for you, I've got one of these in stock, fully reconditioned and it's the 100 amp one. This is a 90A job. £48?"

Woo. Fitted it and it's all good again. Oil pressure is back to 30 psi, and the temp gauge is reading too hot as normal (It's got the wrong sender..)

I have to say, old cars rocketh mightily. If this had been a Mondeo or Vectra I'd probably still be out there struggling with the bloody thing just trying to get it off. Took 10 mins to remove, and 10 mins to fit the new one.

Alternators can cause untold trouble with everything else on the car. Even if it's unrelated. Had to change the alternator belt on a neighbour's car. You had to take the engine mount out to do it!

Exactly. Which is why I don't really understand why people have potentially unreliable, mediocre "daily" cars.

Other old car owners

Honestly, I am personally elated if I see practically ANYTHING old on the road and indeed last week I spotted a 60s Alfa Romeo GTV in white in class 1 condition- delighted to see it.

I passed it today at low speed on my street (speed bumps ftf) and gave a toot and a wave ( I was in my CX) to which I received nothing more than a derisory FACE from the stiff old giffer at the helm.

Why does this happen - are we not all brotherz and sisters of the old car? Happened before with some mamma's boy weekender in an E type couple of years ago - just gave a 'look' that lacked enthusiasm.

I think they were just jealous that I have a cooler, more exclusive ride that only cost £700 and is about 100% more engaging and interesting than their "classic and sports car" box tickers... well at least that's what i keep telling myself. Also didn't like the day a couple of years ago when I turned onto my old road one summer eve to sight a pair of Capris across the road. They both visibly noticed the CX as it came into sight, the younger guy looked mildly enthused, but the older Capri-ist visibly said (I seem to be able to lip read) " what IS that??!!??" - I decided to change my initial plan of going over for a car chat when I spied his FACE at this.. I do wonder how someone of his age who owned a late 70s car could not recall/ID the CX, a car that sold pretty well in the UK at that time and one that's pretty easy to I.D.... but hey..

Still, to redress the balance, our very own Cortinadave, passed me on the M8 last week and made my day by breaking the monotony of silver german shit on the 3rd lane with his white Cortina - toot an a wave and it made my fakkin day!

There's a chap round here drives a knackered old dark brown Austin Princess. Mrs Ash was giving me a lift to the pub when this motor came the other way. I gave it the thumbs up, and Mrs Ash waved. The look on the driver's face was priceless, as he was clearly mystified why two people he didn't know in a brand new Jag were so enthused!

Locating and buying a used top hose for the Scorpio at my local breakers. Yeah, it was nearly a tenner, but it's one less thing to worry about, and it was cheaper than brand new......

Just flogged some equipment to someone I didn't know. When advertised he was sending me text messages and at one point seemed a bit arsey.

I'd have normally told him to shove it but as it transpired he was actually a top geezer.

Just been to ASDA for the weekly shop/dump whisky and condoms in old laies' trolleys, (and wait to see their faces at the checkout as they think they have Alzheimers) and bought a VIZ T-Shirt.... Johhny Fartpants! in XL for 6 quid. That will go nicely with my Sid the Sexist shirt (see crescent wank, above) Me happy bunny. Now to open a few beers (King Goblin) and avoid the kicking game on the TV.

The top day i had at Giff's .

Never even know the guy, just signed upto the MX5 nuts forum to get some answers ... the next thing i knew, i was invited to a "welding day".

A top bloke - Vince brought his little 200HF Tig welder, and gave us a very quick run-down.

Not to be big headed, but my welds came out AWESOME :D

I also got afew measurements off Peter's MX5, and he kindly dropped me off.

All in all a fantastic day.

(Being able to Tig is really going to help this MX5-Rebel business)

What made me grin time.On Friday I was driving through Stanhoe in Norfolk when in the other direction came a few Ferraris including an Enzo.a smattering of Aston Martins including what looked like a race prepared DB4.a Jensen Intercepter, several E Types, three convertible Rollers, two Bentley Blowers,a shed full of 911s,a V8 sounding Cobra replica,TR 6 and two Stags plus a Mercedes 300SL gullwing. They were all driving along a recently resurfaced road with stones spitting out everywhere.Every driver had a grin on his face. All in all 30-40 cars.As I came out of the restricted zone a 70's 911 with chrome bumpers and the gullwing were tearing along trying to catch the others with a squad car desperately trying to stay with them.Even the coppers were smiling.

Exceptionally difficult to nail down just ten and it is ever-changing.

*Discovered Mylene by pure chance and this video sold her to me. I was seriously sceptical at first though, despite loving her voice and the song (and her looks). The tears are real and there is a very sad story behind it, although she does cry quite a bit on stage.

Saw her in Brussels last year and she was saying something I couldn't understand and was in tears, as were 99% of the 80,000 audience. Turned out she was sad as it was the last show of the '09 tour.

There was speculation that it was to be her last ever tour.

**If only this were available to buy with money.

***Saw Heather live in Brum when she was seven months pregnant and she gave one of the most exhilarating performances I have ever seen. Hard to winnow it down to two, there are so many good ones.

****Brilliant young Pipa player. She patented the 'glass' Pipa she is playing.

I made a flask of tea this afternoon to take to the lock up with me, I'm working away on the Sceptre when I get a text from the O/H... "you forgot your flask, I'll bring it down". 10 minutes later she's there with said flask.

What a top bird!

Talking about getting waves off fellow old car drivers, I've been chuckling as I got the thumbs up from a guy in a Skyline the other day whilst I was pootling about in my little-old-lady-spec Starlet. I've put clear indicator lenses on it so they all must think it's a JDM TYTE YO Glanza Turbo version!

In other news I was caught in a time warp recently when this parcel arrived:
