De Tomaso Pantera makes me grin. I know someone who's blown a showroom window out with the roar from that lovely mid-engined V8 ;)

I'm happy, its been a heck of a week and the tough stuff is out of the way.Firstly had x-rays on Monday to assess extent of my crohns. Seems to be limited to one area thank goodness so am booked in to have it chopped out 12th June. Should in theory give me several years of normal life which I havent had for about ten years!Secondly went to a conference Tuesday and Wednesday which I expected to be total shit, but was only semi shit - so thats a result. And I dont have to go again until next year thank christ. Thirdly I had a fourth interview for a new job this morning. Allow an hour, spent two hours chewing the fat with potential new boss and got on really well. He is supposed to be a ballbusting pr*ck but I have worked with far worst people than him so am not concerned. His final words were "yes, you'd fit in nicely, I'll have a word with the team". Sounds promising but the other candidate might be better. And if he speaks Dutch, I'm screwed as its a job dealing with Dutch and Belgian clients which I have done for years but because they all speak better English than I, I never had the need to learn the language. Either way, the hassle and stress is finished this week and I can look forward to a nice easy straightforward day tomorrow. Well in theory anyway!

Yeah, cheers Minimad. Was worried about the op until I saw the x-ray and my exact words were "get that facker out!"No doubt I will take my netbook in with me to keep up with developments. Dont be surprised to see notes from me on June 13th simply saying "OWWWWWWWWWWWW!"Job wise I'm relaxed. Que sera sera and all that. I am in a decent enough job so not a crisis if I dont score the new one. To be honest, four interviews has been pretty heavy going and I am suffering a bit of jobseeking fatigue! But the weekend is almost here, Operation Liebensraum fur Shitzen (cleaning out my garage) commences 06:00 Saturday and I cant wait to get stuck into that.

Strange looking girl with red hair on the tube carrying a Depeche Mode 86-98 bag whilst reading a book about "love in the time of the pre-raphaelites" Couldnt help but feel that eclectic mix of musical, literary, and hair colour choice would make her an interesting character. It made me smile anyway.

Not finished yet, lack of money (for plants) stopped play. Plans are putting small plants in a couple of the pistons and con-rod ends, adding more Freecycle car parts and planting them out and maybe a border of Haynes manuals, but jury still out on that one.

Have attempted some seed growing in the shed, fingers crossed they'll actually grow.

What was the block from Billy...?Think the Supra 6 pot block I have in the shed has juts found its new use... It was going to be a table but thats been done to death.

Oddly enough it was from a Toyota Celica GT4 turbo(?) I think, which also donated it's old pistons, rods and intercooler. The lad who had the parts was on his fourth engine when I went round, he was doing a bit of track day stuff and said he was running somewhere near 400bhp and kept destroying engines.

Wow, someone else who's actually heard that. The 'eponymous' compilation album was my introduction to REM and still remains one of my all-time top listeners.

Tbh, my 'top-ten' list would change every day, depending what mood I was in; there's far too much stuff that floats my boat. But I guess that would make for a more interesting thread!

I've managed to pass over an hour doing the same.

Took the wife and nipper for a few days "holiday" up to Elgin in Scotland in the Audi towing the Maestro van trailer. Apart from a blowout on the A9 on the return leg there was absolutley no problems whatsoever. The Audi handled it, the trailer handled it, did'nt get pulled by VOSA or the rozzers (not that anything was illegal!) and a good time was had by all. Even the sun was shining! 850 mile round trip WIN.Unfortunately the dig looking for buried aircraft parts I attended failed to yield anything substantial, apart from a wartime aircraft bog seat and about a million unused Lancaster bomber brake shoes.... No they dont fit Allegros.I neglected to take any pics of the Audi and trailer in Scotland to prove I was there, so youl' all just have to believe me.

Run For Home is one of those songs you just never hear on the radio. 1978 I think?Similarly "Northern Lights" by Renaissance which was out about the same time. Never hear that either.Or Orvilles Song..........

"OI! I'M ARRESTING YOU FOR MURDERING MY CAR, YOU DYKE-DIGGING TOSSPOT"Absolute uber-shite hiding in the hangar as well. I'm pretty gutted about the Cherry though, no need for that IMO.

Fitted the Mota-Lita steering wheel to the 'new' SD1* tonight (bought it with the car as it's almost identical to the one in the mad SD1*) after driving home from work. Fitted the Nakamichi** to it (still on the Ãœbershite, half blown speakers) burnt a disc of 80's cheese, popped my shades on and burbled round to a mates house.Just burbled back*** and parked up on the drive, got out, looked at the two of them parked next to each other and grinned like a wanking chimp. For the price of a tidy Mk2 Golf GTi I've got so much more fun.V8s folks. The only way to go. The 3.5 is a giggle once its wound up past 3000 rpm. Not the quickest thing out there, but sense of occasion when its doing its thing never fails to amuse. I can't stress this enough, if any of you have the urge to buy something with an amusingly large engine, forget the fuel bills. walk occasionally. Get the bus instead. Trains can be cheaper if you're going far, but do it, it just has to be done. Even if only for a few weeks or months. Buy a V12 if that floats your boat, but go for it. There are quicker turbodiesels out there but that big motor torque can't be faked, it's worth an extra few quid in fuel. Eat one less pastie a day!*Um, it's hard to know what to call 'em. I don't want to give 'em names.** Which somehow looks right, even though it's a cd player. Dash looks great at night.*** Listening to "Run for home" after it was mentioned 'ere.

Find the River is an REM gem. I find there's such an air of melancholy about that song.

I do admit to being a miserable, minor key person - who doesn't read music - but still just knows when something's in a minor key...

How Soon Is Now is an awesome piece of music, and I do wonder if Morrissey matched the lyrics to the melody or the other way around - I suspect the first!

Whilst doing afew jobs on the Rebel, the new Slovakian guy from across the road, was walked past and shouted "Hi mate".To which i replied "Alright mate :D " -(Yes even with that smile)He then came over and introduced himself, and asked what the tin of paint was for.I explained to him, that i had never used an electric spray gun before , so i had only prepped a small part of the door as a test piece. He then mentioned how i should not use that paint, as he personally believed it was "shit" He said it was a nice colour and it could be used, just he prefered Cellulose. He asked afew other questions ... "what is the car ?" ... "Does the engine work ?".... "How old is it ?" (His reply to 1972, was fantastic ... "Fuck that is ancient)Anyway !!He then said "Hey, i will help you tomorrow. I bring red pad and we flat paint then in 40 minutes i paint whole car for you"This gave me mixed emotions :A) Wow fantastic, what a nice guyB) Mhhm shit, i dunno what he wants in returnBut it really did make me smile at how nice, interested and generous this guy seemed. If only some english folk could be like that :) .So tomorrow shall be a fun day, as i have no idea what may happen. If he helps then Result !If not , then nothing lost.... Ooh and he also offered me a full bag of Mc Donalds (Kind or what ?)Sorry for the Essay, just meeting a new kind person has made my day.

Cannot agree more. And there are plenty of cheap as chips V8 and V12 90's vintage cars out there that are begging for owners with this attitude. Sure, it's back at the buffet for seconds and thirds of fuel and environment, but for a couple of thousand miles a year with a "chimped oneself red" grin they hit the spot. Fun fun fun.If I had a decent sized barn (actually, any barn at all) in the garden, I'd certainly have an SD1 in there parked next to an 850CSi and CL600, my current XJ12 and possibly one of those "specced to oblivion by a captain of industry" 750i's. Always loved the look of SD1's - my old man's boss always had them.I am talking with AJ6 Engineering and Wolf Direct Racing regarding some subtle performance mods for my Jaguar. I am told 450BHP is achievable with the right exhaust, manifold and ECU. Apparently, fuel consumption is not drastically affected either. Sounds like more fun fun fun.

Only 1 A minor in the whole song, but that could be the way I play it! Major key songs made to sound like a minor key songs are nearly always brilliant. It is a G7 chord that hooks you. Also, the second chord in the intro, by removing the index finger from the G-string (no, unfortunately not...), is another "hook" note that is found in an alarming quantities of "favourite songs" including "run for home"

Or something...

Try "eye in the sky" for 79p off i-tunes by Jonatha Brooke off the "back in the circus" album.

There just aint no substitute for cubes! And I agree entirely with Pete M, sometimes its worth the extra fuel, just trim back elsewhere. Lifes too short to be sensible ALL of the time (some of the time is ok, but let your hair down once in a while for christs sakes!).All this talk of additional cylinders is getting me excited! And Stuno your SD1 is lovely. I dont know how you manage to fuel it with NZ fuel prices though, you are a brave man!
