What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

A friend of mine came out last Friday morning to find someone had run into her car, and fucked off. Rear bumper hanging off, and a bit of damage to the rear wheelarch. I went round to see what I could do, which was take the bumper right off to stop it getting damaged any further. While I was doing this, and waiting for the Police, a woman approached me and asked "Scuse me, do you live here?". I replied in the negative, and that it was my pal's house. "Well" she said "I see you're working on the car. I'm afraid it was me who ran into it. I did ring the doorbell earlier, but there was no answer. I went next door too, but there seemed to be no one in there either". It turns out she was going to leave a note, but didn't have anything with her to do so, so she'd gone to work, took the morning off and came back with her insurance details.

The cops arrived at this point, ascertained that the situation was being resolved, and bade us all good day. My mate got her car back yesterday, all fixxorated.

Nice to see that there are still some honest people around

I joined that Classic Car Scrapfinds on FB the other day. Someone posted up a pic of a Hillman Husky. So far about 40 people had quite rightly said its a Hillman Husky but then several other people still kept saying it was an Imp, or a Commer Van. It really is quite painful to watch.

So I thought I would join in and said it was either a Husky or a DeLorean. What makes me grin is the reply from Michael Hird.

The funny thing is he even has a picture of a DeLorean in his profile pic. Idiot.

Seriously though, it is probably more of a reflection of the people you get on these groups that he could actually think that I thought it was a DeLorean, hence why I am just going to have to leave as it really is too much to bear. But before I do, someone has just posted a pic of a Commer Camper so I am just off on there to call it a Dodge Spacevan.

Hey, being Thora's son must be difficult!

Reminds me of the lecturer at Uni who insisted on calling me Jonathan when it wasn't my name. I called her Steve for the rest of term. We got on really* well.

A lot of people just join these Facebook groups to troll them with pointless shite. Some of them are funny, most of them aren't.

I don't look at the comments I just look at the picturz as I find the comments too hard to bear.

It all pales into insignificance compared to the regional car for sale sites on Facebook they're terrifying. My favourite in the glasgow one was a post who's title was 'does any cunt ken wits wrong wae ma motor'. Poetry .

My first ever Facebook ban!

(From the Britain First Facebook page for asking (three times as the first two asks were deleted before they banned me) where all the proceeds from sales of their patriotic merchandise and donations to prevent animal cruelty were going. The Electoral Commission publishes political party statements of accounts on its website - BF is showing big fat zeroes for income and expenditure - so WHERE is the money actually going?)

I've just been outside finishing washing the saph and heard a lad who was in his early teens approaching using my cars as a directional aid to someone, all I heard is " I'm on cockwarbler* road, you know the road with the old black escort on it with the other nice old ford's in the drive" I grinned because there is a glimmer of hope for the youth of today

*road name changed to protect the innocent

Neighbour's MG bubble went through its MoT only need a CV boot and a headlight bulb rotating.  Not bad for a car he was convinced would fail on all the things and which regularly has its knackers revved off by neighbour's teenage son.  When clearing out Mum's stuff we found a light-up exhaust trim, aforementioned teenager was particularly gleeful at the prospect of bolting it to his Dad's MG.

I'm listening to Land of Hope and Glory on the headphones and I have a Maestro van outside. I am truly living the dream.

Went to the unfortunately named Probefest in Nottingham. Field full of Ford Probes celebrating their 20th year in the UK.

Lots of people like Ford Probes. Great company and good food. Even the weather perked up in the afternoon!

Similarly one of the lads from the new house I moved into recently accompanied me on a drive through a few towns. We took a route through a mountain pass over looking the French villages below whilst listening to theme tune of "Allo Allo"

Several years ago I drove off the ferry at Ouistreham with 'Foux de Fafa' (Flight Of The Conchords) rattling the door speakers.

The door mirror on the Leon came loose and was rattling around. Sorting it was a simple case of tightening the retaining nut but getting to it was a mare. Eventually found out that Seat themselves remove the door speaker and reach in to the nut that way.

Try as hard as I might, I couldn't get my fat arm far enough inside the door but Mrs P in her first ever spannering event managed it. Lovely secure door mirror now!

Proceeding along the A45 Laughing at all the "tastefully" modified Astras and corsas on the way to the Vauxhall day at Santa Pod.

Stopped laughing when a mint Carlton Gsi flew past, lovely noise from the straight 6 and great looking car, a beacon of taste awash in a sea of pineapples.

BTCC does Autoshite today... supporting the last race this afternoon they're pulling out the 90s Supertouring cars.  156, Vectra, etc.  This'll be fun!  Might even see a Volvo estate!

A recent exchange on Twitter created Formula Hydragas.  Primary competitors are a blue Metro, a bright orange Allegro estate and a mostly-beige Princess.  First prize is a Citroen SM.

Saw a Tara Green Allegro (T reg)on the A5 at Oswestry this morning at about half 7. Waved like mad but it probably didn't mean much coming from a mad woman in an A6.

Also a black G reg Amazon on Kidderminster ringroad on Sunday mid morn.

Nice to see some proper stuff in the wild.

Meanwhile,  I've been on a trip to the other side of the Shropshire/Cymru border and seen a S1 Landy, 2 early Unimogs a C reg Scirocco and a Sherpa camper in AS racing beige.  I also put the Cherry through it's MOT and it passed with flying colours 8)
