What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Ah its in Marlow, with horrible corner desks. Everyone is on xp apart from me and my colleague who got ourselves upgraded to win7 64bit and then we maxed out the rams so we fly!

Gr9 for running a server on and browsing autoshite!

Moved desks this morning. Now got my back to a wall, so no one can see my screens! More autoshite time moving forward! Plus I can see everything! No more people sneaking up behind me and smacking me on the shoulder (office joke between a few of us - i win now mwuahahaha!)

Working in a similar office was a massive reason for going self employed! People sneaking up and poking me in the ribs/smacking me on the shoulder just made me more determined to leave. I have been poor ever since btw, but at least I don't suffer the mind warping tedium of 'the office'. Office jokes and Office politics (that is my chair/cup/desk/place in the fridge) just tipped me over the edge.

"Can something exist without being perceived? - e.g."is sound only sound if a person hears it?" The most immediate philosophical topic that the riddle introduces involves the existence of the tree (and the sound it produces) outside of human perception. If no one is around to see, hear, touch or smell the tree, how could it be said to exist? What is it to say that it exists when such an existence is unknown? Of course, from a scientific viewpoint, it exists.[8] It is human beings that are able to perceive it.[8] George Berkeley in the 18th century developed subjective idealism, a metaphysical theory to respond to these questions, coined famously as "to be is to be perceived". Today meta-physicians are split. According to substance theory, a substance is distinct from its properties, while according to bundle theory, an object is merely its sense data. The definition of sound, simplified, is a hearable noise. The tree will make a sound, even if nobody heard it. The definition states that sound is a hearable noise. So the tree could have been heard, though nobody was around to do so."

Thanks!

The ' I thought I could see light' bit was probably Dave before 7.

Twirling insect notwithstanding.

...my favourite ever magazine of evah...

What year is that Joe? 1990/1-ish?

Yep, '91. This started my love for motors of that era.

Definitely interested in seeing those Autocar reviews!  I had a 1997 Daily Express World Car Guide which was pretty dog-eared through repeated reading over the years but alas it's long gone.

Aye, this one is well thumbed, but I always made sure I didn't stick the pages together!

I'm not up for scanning the whole lot, but I will take requests from the contents page. (Click to view it bigger.)

Here's an example... the (almost mythical) Yugo Sana:

No, but five different Rover R8's, and four 800's!

I did have a Maestro at one time though, that was on a J plate too.

If there's any requests from that list, I'll get the pics in daylight tomorrow. :)

Anybody just watch that Collectaholics show on BBC2?, My god, that chap who collected the petroliana stuff as well as the railway memorabilia, what a legend, I could spend all day just walking around his home and garden!

Ever since buying the Cortina it's had a heavy clutch, and it only cleared right at the bottom of the pedal travel, even though it was replaced when the Sierra engine was fitted according to the reicepts with the car. This made driving in traffic a ballache, so I splashed out on a £15 recon clutch kit on ebay. I changed it yesterday, and had a right game refiting the 'box, juggling 2 jacks, blocks of wood and getting it wedged between the tunnel and flywheel. Of course it ended up 'hanging' on the input shaft so I convinced myself it would judder like a bastard. Tried it this morning and not only did it not judder but it is lighter and clears nearer the top of it's travel. The one I took out was an unworn 'Valeo' unit, so GO FIGURE.

On a slightly grumpier note, after my wrestling match with the gearbox I woke up last night with my neck and shoulder in fugging agony... I R KNOT 20 ENIMOOR.

"Nearly as refined as the petrol engines?" What does that say about the petrol engines?! Or did Rover pull off some sort of miracle with the four-headed monster that actually kept it quiet? My experience of that engine is that it's about as refined as a drunken Essex bird trying to sing Abba.

Any varieties of Lancia Y10s, Citroen XM or Hyundai Pony in there Joe?

Posted

I noted the lack of Y10 (were they still sold in 1991?) because I had one of those, too!

Here's the list again:

I'll get that XM V6 page...

Bit of a price difference between the 800 and XM considering they were in the same segment!  An XM is definitely on my hit list, rust and leaky bits regardless.

I'd flipping love a Mk1 825 diesel. Just the perfect car full stop!!!
