What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Saw my third Hyundai Velociraptor today. I know they're called Velosters, but every time I see one my brain tells me it's a Velociraptor so that's what they are. I actually like them. Lost count of the number of Vauxhall Adams I've seen, and I like those too.

I have seen a couple, also. They do look good.Velocipede is what I think of.

Can't say I agree on the Adam.

Yesterday I got a text message about the Maverick I'm selling.

It's on a classified ad at £600.00.The message offered £400.Should be in the grump thread for some but I've been selling cars online long enough to know 98% of text enquiries come to nothing so I ignored it.

Today I get a message on the advert "what's your bottom line ? I text yesterday offering £400.00"

Gave me a wry smile as I typed : wanting a third off a vehicle you haven't even seen just because you sent a text usually gets that message ignored. If you cannot afford the price of a phonecall then you can't afford my car.

Right as promised some snaps from yesterday's trip to Daytona. Not sure of this is the right thread  but hopefully there's a wide enough selection to make most grin. I've tried to keep away from the usual Yank tin.

So let's start with this

The Fairmont estate with most of the engine bursting through the bonnet looks like it might be a right giggle.

Have done about 400 miles in the xm over the last week due to shit in the grump thread, but checked the coolant earlier fully expecting it to need a top up and it was bang on, and not oily, and the Mayo has gone from the cap too!

Repairing the split ABS reluctor rings on the Smart with 4 quids worth of epoxy and a couple of jubilee clips.

Numerous braking scenarios carried out during post-bodge test, happy to report no Trust Plus warning light anymore/pulsing pedal/TCS going scatty. All systems functioning as they should.

LMAO... 'They' reckon they are 30 quid each, so I never even looked into it. :L

Oh well. It's essentially the same amount of work and I have half of that epoxy remaining.

So I have changed my mind, it cost me 2 quid.

Plus I got to use my new impact gun. :D

Tom Daly's announcement that he is gay. Good for him and it will stop the tabloid scum digging around to "out" him.

I've suffered homophobia (despite never being gay) to the level of getting death threats at school and having stones thrown at me because of rumours (I didnt have a girlfriend etc), luckly I managed to get through that but I can well understand some of the pressure when I hear a teenager has attempted sucicide because they are gay. To stop this anything that makes being gay more mainstream is good news.

Annoying that someone's sexuality is news though isn't it? Though I've heard a rumour that Graham Norton might be a little queer...

That's a bit height-ist, isn't it?

True, but we aren't past the stage where if someone doesn't release a statement on this the papers start suggestions.

You'd bloody hope so, but sadly you can still sell newspapers by digging up these things, printing stories about Diana and blaming every fault in the world on everyone but your own stupid readers.

No, its true.

Graham Norton is 5'8", he's short.

Just seeing a Gold VW K70 on 'whatever happened to the likely lads' on BBC 2. Also reminds me to add Bob's wife Thelma to 'the ladies I would like to...' on the general chat thread.

Do they really still do that? I honestly thought all that had stopped ages ago now, shows how much notice I take of the papers I suppose.

I'm going to split hairs here, but Tom Daly is bisexual not gay and yet that doesn't make the papers.  Because there's been so much speculation over his sexual orientation it's now become this big crowing celebration amongst certain circles who 'always knew' as if they were his peers rather than just some random people oggling him on the internets... sorry, this is fast becoming a grump, sexuality is no more news-worthy than what you had for tea, the colour of your socks or who's going to win the next round of Big Brother.

Some people like innies, some people like outties and some people like both.  That's all you need to know about sexuality.

Was chatting to the missus last night, mentioning that I was thinking of swapping the XM for something more economical in the new year and she said why don't I get a Mondeo? She likes those...

Even this bucket of joy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-N-FORD-MONDEO-2-5-GHIA-X-24V-Automatic-Petrol-Genuine-91-761-Full-Leather-/181272869207?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a34b47957 did not offend! Did they do 2.0 TD ones in this spec?

Either way I love her a bit more now!

That's exactly what I was thinking when watching it, although lusting after Brigit Forsyth seems a bit wrong for some reason!  And Bob's Viva looked a right shed even though it was probably only two years old.

The Mk1 isn't a bad car really, but my experience of the V6 is that they're thirsty, (relatively) slow and rattle like an oil starved Pinto with a shagged cam that's got a bag of marbles loose in the rocker cover. I think the diesels were a 1.8TD job, but like the man in the built up shoes, I stand to be corrected.

Yup. Deffo 1.8TD. I drove one once with well over 200,000 on it. Was still remarkably pleasant!

Posted

mk1 mongdeo 1.8tds can rival old volvos for longevity. I nearly bought one with 280k on and whilst it felt saggy to drive the engine and box was spot on.

(usual td thing, put your foot down...nothing....nothing.....POWER....then nothing again) boring dull car but I'd be happy to run one.
