What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

There are some seriously impressive model collections on here, although Junkman's subterranean truckload takes some beating. You've seen my tat - various tatty Spot On Amazons, a few Diapets and old Matchbox Superkings.

Anyway - today I finally managed to photograph that Daihatsu Applause that has evaded me fo four years. I also discovered that Poundland actually had some 35mm Agfa film in, and came up with a fool proof* way of giving strategically hot chuggers the swerve.

On the downside two of the major job agencies in Altrincham have shut down. This does not bode well.

On the Jeremy Beadle I saw a forlorn child's welly sticking out of a bin at a jaunty angle. MAKE UR COMEDY WERE U CAN KIDS. STAY OFF D STREETS.

I just found this pic; back in 2001 I found myself seeking agricultural summer employmentz but being only 16 meant I had to take a separate test for tractors.

So I borrowed this Ford from college... the DSA tester came out to you, so naturally I booked the test near my house, 20 miles from college so that I could get some, ahem, practice in.

Passed first time and did a tour of town before driving back... the SJ was my mum's.

Had a quick go of a well-known Princess at the unit tonight. VG and I quickly determined the best way to slot a Princess interior into an otherwise stripped-but-for-the-driver's-seat Wedge.....was to loosely fit it all in.

Back to back comparison with Amazon forthcoming.

Great story here

The house that's frozen in time: Eerie images inside abandoned 'Red Dress Manor' which still has clothes in the wardrobes, photographs on the walls and love letters strewn across the floors

Vintage: A rusted 1970s Morris stands in the garage by the main house. It is the kind of car that would fetch thousands at an auction today

I've not used any of the Port ones, Station. I have a design for my next one which is going to be v.expensive I reckon as the place I want to go to aren't cheap, but they are bloody good.

The story about that abandoned manor house is amazing, but I can't help feeling sad at the fact that it's clearly so untouched and now the location has been revealed, it will get vandalised and the contents stolen and sold on Ebay by mods on 28dayslater.

If the lady really did die in the 1970's then it is likely the Marina has a super low mileage. I'd love to have a closer look at that.

I've managed to get a job as a conductor on the trains. Just need to pass the medical on Monday and I can sack off the current job and will never have to manage staff ever again. Pay rise too.

It appears there is more than one Marina at that house.

Both probably much worse now the Daily Mail have published that story.

Helped a friend today with his 1930s MG VA.

Just got back from an excellent day out in Daytona at the Turkey Rod Run. Just about a car there for every budget depending on your skills. They estimate there are some 5000 cars on display and about half of those are for sale. I'll post some photos later but here's a fixer upper to be going on with.

Fair to say this roof looks a little crispy under the vinyl

Saw my third Hyundai Velociraptor today.  I know they're called Velosters, but every time I see one my brain tells me it's a Velociraptor so that's what they are.  I actually like them.  Lost count of the number of Vauxhall Adams I've seen, and I like those too.

While I'm on the topic of modern stuff that I like, I was quite surprised by a friend's hire car, a brand new Renault Clio.  It's the first modern car I've sat in that had supportive AND squidgy seats and was pretty bloody comfortable.  I found myself rather liking the interior, and I normally hate black interiors, for being really rather stylish and somehow managing to seem expensive and cheap simultaneously.  The centre console that just sort of floats put me in mind of 70s high architecture even though it's nothing like it.  It felt like a proper French interior and while the dials weren't particularly mad, the fact that when the car was turned off all the surfaces were just shiny black was enough to make me satisfied that it was French enough.

Sure, I'd rather have a Citroen with an X in its name, but as a courtesy car I can think of far worse things to be offered.

That's really smart to be fair, I could certainly live with driving that on a daily basis.

The problem with those clios is that higher spec ones are fitted with a tablet computer device that drives all the entertainment system, sat nav and stuff. The idea is you can buy apps for the car and download them onto the tablet. Sounds good in priniciple but it's an android derived device and I recon they've "renault'd" the software as it crashes quite a lot and I think you need to stop and start the car to re-boot it. Imagine that in 10 years.
