if they want to buy it would it be wrong to sell it to them?

Hmm... initially I thought no, if they want to do inappropriate shit then that's up to them.

But then I thought about how easy it would be for a novice driver in a Porsche to hurt themselves or others, and I wondered whether I would feel responsible if that did happen. Do you feel that you would be partially culpable (not legally, obviously, but morally) if she had an accident?

Hopefully when they find out how much the insurance will cost, that will put them off. Wealthy or not, it's likely to be enough to make them think twice.

When I was 17 I had a Series 2 Landrover. It was already old by that time, 35 years old in fact, but I thought it was GR12 because it had a soft top and I reckoned I looked WELL COOL in it. It was certainly different than the early-80s Novas, Fiestas and Pandas that most teenage drivers had in 1995. The insurance was within the reach of a part-time waiter like me, presumably due to a combination of the vehicle's slowness and its classic status.

My parents were happy too, because it was very slow and they felt that I was safer in the event of a crash than I would have been in a small car. Win win. Much better than a Porsche for a 17 year old I reckon.

A van that can carry as much as a pizza box on a moped but is the size of a car.  It's not perfect for anything!

If you're looking to sell and they have the cash, then there's no reason not to sell. I suppose you could remind them that she is more likely to kill herself and/or others in a 944 than in a 1-litre Corsa, but I doubt this will make them change their minds.

Or get them to buy a 1.0 Corsa as well as the Porsche. I can highly recommend a 2001 model in silver.

A very rare moment of genuine amusement from Faceache:

Has thus gone yet? Seems cheap even with faults?

This made me smile!

We have some 'friends' who we see now and again. Nice enough folk with decent values. But have a 17 year old daughter who 'wants things'.

They have plenty of money, big house and all the usual trappings, but I thought, until recently that they were fairly down to earth....

Now it seems the daughter has decided she wants a Porsche as her first car! She hasn't even started driving lessons yet. :-/

Parents have expressed an interest in my restored 944 as her 'first car'. Can't think of anything more unsuitable for a teenage girl than a 25 year old car, but what do I know?

Sounds crazy to me, but if they want to buy it would it be wrong to sell it to them?

Edit.

Probably the result of being old, but WTF? Teenage girl wants a Porsche, parents look at buying her one, she also runs up mobile phone bills of around £400 a month also..... They pay it.

Old fart mode engaged.

Personally i wouldn't sell it to her. She will probably kill either herself, others or the car. Then again i'm probably just extremely jealous that my parents aren't buying me a Porsche for my first car.

Station - not sure, it's a closed group which I've no reason to join; someone just sent me that ad for giggles. Although judging by my previous trips to Llandudno, I suspect it's now wearing the mother of all bodykits and several bike exhausts, the better to moisten the underwear of all the local honiez day-tripping pensioners.

I was lucky, my parents were able to buy me a new Lotus Cortina after I passed my test.

But they would never have done that

99p for a full HLS seat set.  99p for two carpet sets that should make one good one.  Top stuff, guess I'm going to head off to Barnoldswick to pick them up as it's not too far away.

Are you gonna see if you can find out what's happening to the rest of the car?

It worries me that it sold for £103 and is located only a stones throw from a frag plant...

I'm hoping that by going in the Princess I'll be able to blag some leftovers.  I'll see if I can find out the fate of the rest of the car, it is worrying it's made less than scrap but still has decent displacers on it.

Picked up a can of pound shop spray paint to tart up the middle bit of my steering wheel. It's really good - smells awful, but sprayed easily and covered well. Apart from the smell, not noticeably different from the expensive stuff. Pleasantly surprised.

Retail parks at Chrimbo. Just spent an unusually enjoyable 20 mins in the car park watching some lady take 15 minutes to block everyone off in her C8 then fail to park where an X5 had been, and she was in the shop for less than five minutes coming out with fuck all!

Meantime some mildly amusing Corsa rage where one salad dodger just beat another to a space the creature that 'won' struggled out and flashed far too much stonach than should ever be seen in public. Some other hopelessly poor parking attempts were seen including Corsa driver no 3 take 4 goes to drive into a space and leave herself less room to get out than the first attempt.

That beige Princess that sold recently for a meagre £103 has gone to a long-term Princess owner who will be using it to help out his Pageant blue Princess and any other cars that can make use of the parts.  I'm delighted it's not getting fragged before being made use of.  Yes, I've already asked if I can have a sphere off it.

Re the 944. I'd just tell the parents that a 17 year old girl driving a Porsche is going to attract a lot of 17 year old boys who really, really want to do deviant sexual things to her in it.

That should be sufficient to deter them...

Thanks for reporting back, V.Angyl, I feel better about that too now!

She'll start saving up now to buy it herself.

Wow, Trigger's dog looks just like ours! I've just made the mistake of showing this picture to my family, they all expressed mild curiosity about the 'weirdo in the old lady's car' but agreed the dog is a dead ringer for ours.

Is he( the dog) a Pappilon/ Poodle cross too?

Trigger and Albert getting involved on some crappy local garage Facebook page I'd posted on (I assume they got a thing saying I'd commented), and completely owning their competition until Trig got his post deleted! Class!

Woke up this morning and just before a serious case of CBA set in, I had some coffee and decided to just tax the flipping t25 even though I'm wasting 3 weeks worth, and go out and buy some wood and get on with actually doing something, instead of doing sod all.

Taxed it online and DROVE THE THING STRAIGHT OFF THE DRIVE WITH NO TAX DISK COS I'M A FLIPPING RENEGADE. Managed 3 miles before almost writing it off in a toyko drift icey road/rwd moment.

Got several sheets of wood from Wickes, drove home and started clearing the garage then lost interest and decided to just use the kitchen/dining room since it's warmer and you're not the boss of me.

Here's the stuff I'm replacing, as you can see it's all wet and warped and stinks like sash. Seriously, It was in the house for three days and proper stank the place out.

Asda delivered the shopping just at the right time, and as ever they came up trumps with the "you couldn't spare a few of those crates could you?" so I had a workbench sorted: These crates are ace, loads better than owt you can buy from a shop, they are unbreakable. I'm must have cadged 20 or 30 of em in the last couple of months.

I could have bought them all off of ebay for £95 and most people would, but that lot cost £15. Now I just need to try and find someone selling rolls the material out of the middle of rover 600 recaros to cover them with, although I have seen some Nova SR burberry stuff which is cheap.

Anyway overall more of a grin than news, cos I drove the van for a bit and it was a right laugh.

Ha! Yes it popped up in my news feed, the thing is i was looking at the photo a couple of days ago so I knew what the car was, a 1982 1.6 GL Estate, not a 1980 2.0 GL like the garage is saying!

Ha! Glad you won!, It was no good to me anyway, I just found it amusing that he's running a comp and didn't even know the answer himself, must be why he got the grizzle on with me i guess.
