What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Just browsing the new cars available on Alibaba.

Are you struggling with cars? Consolidate your Daewoo Matiz, Chery QQ and Volkswagen Polo AllRoad into one easy to own motorcar.

The Maplin switches and exposed screwheads give this a genuine racecar feel, unlike the carbon fibre Fablon.

Here you go, there's dozens of them listed. I can't find the listing with the interior pics again.

Meanwhile, those still mourning the loss of the Invacar will love this 'low speed car for the disabled', with its 150cc engine and automatic gearbox. Even the most cold hearted ATOS assessor will call for an increase in your benefits if you turn up in this.

Just got this landed in the garage, for twenty five quid!

It needs a set of casters and a bit of a clean up, but that's a result in my book!

The Daily Wail doesn't quite know the difference between a Range Rover and a Range Rover Sport...

Neither do I. I can't tell the difference between a Range Rover/Sport, Discovery or Freelander without reading the badges now.

That's a good point.  Though you could fit the Evoque that the footballers' WAGs are driving in the glovebox of any of them.

My old ma asked me if a Renault Captur was 'one of them Range Rovers'.

Presumably she meant an Evoque.

My grin for today.

My 1988 944 has just passed its second MOT since I bought it, learned to weld on it and replaced the crusty sills.

Woo Hoo!

My 'Early Learning Centre' style welding seems to be holding up!

Two grumps that turned into grins.

Had a puncture (I think my first in 19 years of driving) - c.£80 replacement tyre cost saved in favour of eBay wheel with brand new Eagle NCT5 for 20 quid. Relatively (20 miles away) local, too. So what if the alloy it's on is a different design and an inch smaller in diameter, the rolling radius is the same and it'll do as the spare.

Exhaust was blowing. Popped into a fast fit establishment (not that one, the other one). Much sucking of teeth up on the ramp, the down pipe flexi had split but the fitter reckoned the whole shooting match was on the way out. Well, I've had my money's worth - everything from the down pipe to the tailpipe is original Honda and has lasted 13 years and 185k miles.

The quoted £600 front-to-back cost was a bit much on a car barely worth that, thankfully my local garage were able to replace the down pipe at a cost of £69.

Still a partial grump that the old down pipe only lasted 3.5 years and 45k miles, mind you the engine mounts are probably past their best and I did clout it on a humpback bridge a year or so back.

Someone actually listened to me and took my advice, that's today's little grin.  My landlady's son finally took and passed his driving test at 30 and knows absolutely nothing about cars.  He worked out he had £7k to spend on a family car and he was adamant he was going to spend it despite her best efforts to persuade him he didn't need to.

She told me he was looking at getting a used Citroen C4 Picarsehole from a dealer which sounded to me like a recipe for disaster - I tried my best to explain this and suggested that if he really wanted to spend that sort of money he'd be far better off with something like a used Kia or Hyundai for something decent and reliable with a long warranty - she scribbled it all down and went off to call him.   Found out today he actually took the advice, went shopping and is now the happy owner of a 2yr old Kia Soul.  Could have been a lot worse, almost was.

The territorial pissings twat next door has parked his Jetta so it's actually touching my C5. The C5 has an electric pump for the suspension and it rises up an inch or so when you unlock the doors and then creeps down slowly as the pressure leaks back. It also goes down a fair bit when people get in and then lifts itself back up. I don't expect his front number plate to be still attached when the cars are separated :D.

What a dick. You should kick his back plate off too once the c5 is done with the front.

Saying that, I;ve parked close to a wall before, and the next morning once she's sunk down overnight it's kissing the wall...

Posted

What you need now is for someone to park/abandon an old shitter behind him, touching his back bumper.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. Call the cops and tell them Mr Bellthronk has hit your car.

I had a neighbour like this around 15 years ago. He was an utter pain. He actually scribed a line across the pavement in front of his house and parked his car with the front end exactly on the line. He blocked me in numerous times, even though I never crossed his stupid line. When his (equally intolerant and selfish) son passed his driving test he, the son, regularly parked outside my house. I called round to reason with them several times but just got a mouthful of abuse. Horrid people.

We moved soon after that, thankfully selling the house to an older couple without a car so they didn't mind.

Oh I see! You mean he's parking like that to make a point, because you've parked a little bit past the front garden boundary?

It didn't even occur to me that someone could be such an utter knob. However I've heard of people before who believe that the strip of road outside their house belongs to them, which always seems a bit odd. Yet again it's about common sense: show people the courtesy of leaving them a parking space, and you're entitled to expect the same courtesy in return, but why be a complete wanker about it? Drawing a line on the ground is the most pathetic thing I've heard for a while.

Actually, you see that bush in your neighbour's front garden that's growing through your fence?  I reckon you need to set fire to that to preserve your boundary line.  If it happens to set fire to all his garden by accident that would be a shame, but not your fault because you can clearly see his leaves are on your side of the boundary so he deserved it.

Passive aggression is a silly thing.

Pathetic indeed. Not to mention selfish. Bet it happens quite often though!

Doesn't affect me at all now since moving. I now have a drive, but the residents of the sheltered housing across the road are fiercely defensive of their 'on road' parking space.

Ah yes. I remember living in a terraced street. Two doors down, there was a right twat with a bleedin' huge Mazda 929 estate. He'd get VERY huffy if anyone parked outside his house. I generally didn't, but had once and found myself blocked in. I went round to complain, expecting him to be an arse, and he gave me a ceramic 2CV model and apologised!
