What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Got up this morning, the better half and I took a run down to the local garden centre in the Maestro, had breakfast and a wander around, bought some seeds for the garden and drove home.

I'm 26, she's 23 and we are quite clearly living the OAP dream.

Did you stop in a duel carriageway layby and have a cup of tea in a deck chair covered by a tartan rug while reading the sunday post?

How's it running?

We didn't; I forgot to bring the flask. We did have a pot of tea and a scone in the garden centre though so we're nearly at A-level OAPism.

It's running pretty well, still a bit grumpy on cold starts but it's certainly not the worst. Just need to get the clutch done (probably an outside job, don't think I'm of that technical standard yet) and find another four seatbelts clasps and it'll be bang on.

In fact the only thing that has gone wrong on it in the week and a bit I've had it is that the gear linkage has fallen apart twice, but I have now replaced the original string bodge I carried with cable ties which has tightened up the gearshift immeasurably.

Spent an hour in the loft and now have a working scalextric track up there.

Mum just gave me a carrier bag with a genuine period accessory for the Princess in it. One of her friends found it in her wardrobe. I've been searching for one of these since the vandals snapped my original without success.

When the new different coloured bonnet arrives in the near future - another little gift from the parental units - we'll be heading towards 1994 at warp speed.

Did some shite spotting today despite my phone not having a memory card, I popped into a local phone factor and bought myself a memory card and new battery for my main phone as it used to short out.

Also, watching the 1983 General Election on BBC Parliament, Thatcher has just won and is being driven away in her ministerial Black Jaguar/Daimler OYE 436Y (The one behind it is JYH 191W). I was born in '83, on my birthday recently I recieved one if those CD that comes with a card that tells you all about what happend the year you were born.

* She has just arrived back in Downing Street to meet some of her supporters. I did spot a Black SD1, and the BBCs cable has just ran out.

That's why I wait until the series has finished before I watch them, no waiting between episodes ;)

This is genius, there is nothing finer that a series blow-out.

In other news I have finally found out how to eliminate Youtube channels from the suggested/recommended sections. I love YouTube and recommended videos but it makes me want to smash uo the room with extreme unction when I am shown the same videos or channels that I dislike. Yes you can give them the thumbs down but it doesn't stop them being re-suggested.

.. until now! I added an extension to Google Chrome called RE:Channel Blocker so never again shall I have to deal with unwanted videos from twerps like The Amazing Atheist. Huzzah!

After a number of weeks trying to decide what new car i fancy and driving a number of others which haven't really done it for me I've finally bought one this afternoon, It's not very AS I know being a 2008 Focus 2.0TDCi Titanium, but It drives nice and looks the biz with the tinted windows and ST alloys.

My Mondeo is getting a bit sick with rough starting and clouds of smoke as well as a knackered suspension which feels like it's on bricks and it has a noisy buckled alloy so this should come as a welcome relief, I've got a 600 mile round trip next week to New Quay in West Wales to get acquainted with the car which I didn't fancy in the ST.

You're coming to Wales boyo? Newquay isn't a million miles away from me... (well, it's a fair few Welsh miles!)

Amused myself over lunch by writing a small mathematical program for my Arduino board that makes an LED blink/fade like an elderly incadescent lightbulb.

None of this immediately on/off tosh here for a warning light. :D

Got my KV6 Sterling back!!!! Now the Micra can have a well deserved rest and go back to being used only a couple of times a week. This is tge first time I've heard my KV6 with a quiet exhaust, as I worked for the fella for a few days he cut the bill down from £230 to £100, that is supplying and fitting a new downpipe, cat, flexi and flange. Its as quiet and throaty as it should be. Next on the list is a service and getting the drivers wing sprayed up.

Sticking with the home electronics theme, I'm stupidly pleased with my Raspberry Pi setup which has been logging temperatures for a few days now. I've got internal and external sensors and in Autoshite style, it's been built with plenty of hot glue and bits of wire and connectors salvaged from an old PC case. The temp sensors are 1-wire jobbies so I can theoretically connect an infinite amount of them in parallel, I've got a third one which can just get soldered to a length of phone extension cable and plonked in another room.

The dotted bits are where the Pi crashed and I didn't notice.... need some way of automatically rebooting it.

This has been putting a smile on my face since it turned up at 7:30 this morning in the glorious sunshine.

Just tootled up and down the road enough to get it into 2nd gear and it's a fantastic little bike. It needs a new centre stand as the existing one really has done the splits (genuine old stock Honda one off ebay for £21), a pair of mirrors (ebay, £5) a horn (ebay, £5), corrosion cleaning off one indicator contact (sandpaper, free) and a rear light bulb. The exhaust is a little bit past its best but they're cheap enough and there only seem to be four bolts holding it on. I'm well happy, can't wait to get it out for a ride. A year after my CBT it only took a few little runs up and down my road to relearn again, lovely easy little bike to ride.

Singer Vehicle Design builds very expensive 911s. Founded by a Brit living in the US. He used to play in a band. Name sounded familiar, turns out he used to front Catherine Wheel... interesting career move.

When I win the lottery I'll order a Singer 911, in black metallic, har har.
