What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

What type of expiration - just "stopped" like a cambelt going or properly "stopped", like metal bits on the tarmac?

Some wonderful feelings:

1) During an unpleasant cold, your blocked nose suddenly clears.

2) A mangled, rounded off bolt suddenly starts turning and comes out without further drama.

3) Both of those happening at the same time.

A hearty LOL. Plus further LOLZ for the typical brain-dead Youtube comments.

WTF happened there? If the bus driver did that deliberately then he is a complete and utter cunt - more so even than the Porsche owner. And since when are Dennis Darts that quick off the line?

Battlefield 3 on the PC - probably a bit too much for some shitters setups but this had me in stitches:

1. Finally working my way through the counter intuitive menus on the Powershot SX 20 I've lent. Even though my borrowed D70 was 8 years old and only 6 megapixels, it shits on the SX 20 for image quality. The latter is 12.1 megapixels and I think it uses software (DIGIC) for image processing rather than stand alone hardware. I still love that D70 - I might have to get one to go with the [newer] D60 I'm buying. Then eventually I shall sell my soul in order to afford an EOS 7D. I got to use one briefly on a placement at the BBC and it made me slightly wibbly.

Nevertheless, prosumer cameras haven't half come on. Now that I understand where everything is in full manual mode I can make it do some quite interesting stuff. The fact I have a real time screen to adjust the settings is an absolute boon. On the D70 I was doing aperture \ ISO \ exposure \ shutter speed off the display with rotary knobs. Seeing everything in real time is amazing, although these settings don't extend to the video mode where it's auto whether you like it or not. It can shoot in 720p which is quite handy, although nowadays you can buy £50 compacts that shoot in full HD.

I just know having a display is gonna make me lazy if I ever start fiddling with fully analogue stuff. I'll probably have to take both cameras.

2. Tayne's photography post. Having had no formal training, this was bloody brilliant and very useful for me, as I've cobbled together what little I know from pissing around, having crap equipment and adapting what I learned from video camera lectures.

3. Realising AM 27mHZ BEC transmitters for Tamiyas go for between £6-10 each on eBay, and I have 36 of them, all tested, that I bought in a job lot for £16. Also included in the lot were a load of Acoms battery cases and servos. And several old mint and boxed Sanwa handsets. And a 16T brushless motor.

...Asked for a P&P quote from the states for a load of old Airfix (I buy and resell it honest guv), seller comes back to me with a quote of $1960... and judging by his comments he hasn't left a decimal point out, how on earth you get a quote like that I have no idea but it brought a smile to my face this morning.

Fixing my central heating the Autoshite way. I got advice from a mate at work, who knows a bloke who runs a Plumbers Merchants. £40 for a nice shiny pump, half an hour with a stack of wet towels and some stillsons and I have heat for the first time since Tuesday! Bliss.

Did that myself last winter, Jim. My plumber mate lent me his hi-vis and sent me to his suppliers. No questions asked, £40 too. Our house is timberframe, and loses heat very fast.

Making me grin today: Getting a new BlackBerry and A Brief History of Time (from my missus), a bottle of Glenmorangie and a Glock T-shirt(from my best mate) AutoData 3.38 (from my mate Alan) and a "Buon Compleanno" phone call from my Italian ex-girlfriend.

That's very good. I must crack on with some of my kits, never tried weathering etc with them though.

Also, many thanks to ProgRocker for the pile of magazines I picked up tonight. Cheers Matt!

Likewise! I bow to Mattblack here; to my shame I have a huge stack of unbuilt kits, not to mention boxes of built-and-forgotten going back 40+ years.

Is it your birthday Ash?

Aye mate, 21 again! I loved all my pressies, but was truly gobsmacked that Valentina rang me. She got married in 2010 and had a baby last year, so she's been busy, but still took the time to spend nearly an hour on the phone. She spoke to Katie for quite a while too, and must have told a few secrets as Katie has been pottering around going "ROAR!" and giggling. (Valentina used to call me "il mio leoncino britannica", or "My little British Lion"

:shock::oops:

Women, eh? :D

EDIT: @mattblack - that model is all kinds of awesome, great work.

Happy birthday Mr Micro!

:D ha ha! Cheers guys! It's been a great one, loads of nice pressies, cards, greetings on FaceAche and my little 3 year old niece managed to SNEEZE birthday cake all over Kate and me. SO funny!

"Sorry Uncy Andwoo".

We all collapsed!

One of my Rallycross mates Lawrence Gibson (see him on YouTube, 6R4) shares my birthday, and one of our mutual friends wished me a "50 something" birthday, followed by a "SORRY ANDY! sent to the wrong email"

It's been a lovely day, and thanks to everyone who wished me a good one - it was!

Sorry but this made me ROFL...

Old tofu bollocks gets an expert in to look over his SAAB and he comes up with all the kind of stuff that Vauxhall Vegan couldn't possibly have noticed for himself. Like dents in the roof, rusty bonnet and a sunroof switch that's dropped into the fascia. You really couldn't make this bloke up, could you?

ROFL!

'all the stuff that normally goes wrong these is okay'

Just a shame that all the stuff that is normally good on others is shagged on his one!

It's ok though it's worth £700 in parts

Quite what parts I'd love to know as I weighed two or three of these in a few years back and no-one was remotely interested in parts off them at the time.

I think quornselecta has had a bit of a hard time over that saab.

Okay he says some mind boggling shit some times but a years test and 6 months mot what he's asking for it isn't outrageous .

Maybe but I'm still intrigued as to why our uber vegan has pork products in his avatar...

im still waiting to see the report - as he promised

Not for sale over the weekend, as there is a Saab expert coming out to do a full inspection on the car for me. His report will be published here.

where is it then? i just see a bit of typing, lets see the scanned report

as we know from pantiesniffer's other for sale adverts (it just needs a bolt, and it will run fine) he is 'economical with the truth' to put it mildly. No-one with half a brain will buy this saab, as it belongs to billy liar (a qualified mechanic, MOT tester and garage owner, according to the honest john forum). look on ebay, cheap saabs are everywhere, no one needs to take a gamble, or should that be gambol, on this one.
