What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I did have guitar lessons as a kid but there was a bigger boy who was so much better I became disheartened with my inability. I was given his racing bike by his Dad many years later though. His name was Peter Frampton by the way. I wish I still had that bike.

As a kid I was more intertested in taking stuff to bits and building stuff, and wasn't really into music. Currently though, I would love a decent keyboard, that I could rig up to the computer.

This must be the shiters keyboard of choice.

I found this little gem on a site called UKMOT.com

ROYAL RENAULT : The Queen carried out a Royal visit on a Channel Island in a borrowed Scenic. Alderney lacks a car ferry, so her Rolls-Royce was left on the mainland

The fact that Kim-Jong Il has gone to his maker (whoever that may be) using a fleet of 1970s Lincoln Town Cars. Apart from the giant picture of him atop one of them, it reminds me of a very cold Mafia planting in Brooklyn circa 1979.

I thought they were ZIL limos.

Whatever they are the leaders are not setting a very good example to the rest of the population driving around with all that snow on the roof.

They may be NK copies of Chinese copies of ZILs! There's an NK copy of a Merc 190 on here somewhere, and it was a good effort.

David Bowie used a Stylophone on Space Oddity. And, I think, on After All on the Man Who Sold The World LP

New bonnet, new doors, new headlining at least required, and he is wanting £550 for it? He's having a tin bath!

Grade one fruitcake that lad.

I've justed watched one of my Christmas presents - G F Newman's 'Law & Order'. In 1978 it was just plain old 'Law & Order' but with the yank series and its UK ITV spin off it has become what it has...

I did it in one sitting. Fuggin masterpiece. 8)8)8)

Of course, I'll ultimately screengrab the relevant bit's for the thread. There are some.

170k is pretty low mileage for a classic 900, and £550 isn't that much for a reasonable one even if he did pay a lot less. The rust isn't that bad, they all go at the door bottoms. I'd just run about in it as it is, since when was a bit of rust and a sagging headlining enough to put a 'shiteist' off a car?

This forum seems best for 'pub experts' commenting on the values of cars they know nothing about.

The beavertail alone is bad enough but check out the wood! I suspect the chassis is terminally rotten as it was listed for sale by someone else fairly recently.

It's probably been wankered by overloading it, and the engine is probably belching out blue smoke

Yay! My Rover runs.

After having no joy the other day getting the SD1 running as no petrol was getting up to the engine I decided to pull the fuel pump out. Obviously one screw was completely knackered so I had to turn it a millimetre at a time using mole grips to extract it. Anyway when I eventually got it out the filter on the end of the pump was bone dry, which I thought was a bit odd so poked the torch in the tank to find 0 pez swirling around. I'd lobbed a gallon in the other day but it had all went to the front of the tank because it's up on axle stands when the pumps at the back.

I added another gallon and it fired right up which I was well chuffed with, Seems like a bit of a shit design to me.

No point having a pump pick-up at the front of the tank when you're trying to go uphill on a gallon of juice!

Posted

I agree but why is it right at the back? Surely the same applies going down a hill? The car is currently tilted forward at an angle you'd easily find on a hill.

If the hill's that steep, it's imagined that your foot will be on the brake rather than the throttle!

SCTSH_ANDY the 405 mi16 going

LOVE these! Kept mine for 7 years. Pics please :D

I haven't got a good picture of his current one, but I do have this:

Mi16BW800x574.jpg

This was taken on my old Powershot A40 in around 2002 \ 2003. This was a Mi16x4, rare as you like even then. As far as I know H781 FRJ is now dead. SCTSH_ANDY sold it to an idiot mutual friend of ours who neglected it chronically. He drove it hard into a width restrictor in Sale and took two wheel bearings out by scraping along the side. When they started grinding he told people the wheelarch liners were hanging loose. I repeatedly warned him that he'd knackered the wheel bearings and he refused to get them fixed, instead telling everyone who'd listen that SCTSH_ANDY had sold him a dangerous car (sound familiar, scooters?)

He had repeated starting problems because he tried to move the battery to fit a 'upgraded' audio system and then didn't attach the clamps again properly. That was SCTSH_ANDY'S fault as well, if I remember correctly.

Later it needed an exhaust and he had to have a custom system fabricated to go round the transfer box because they weren't available off the shelf. For some unaccountable reason he took it to a bunch of cowboys in Warrington who jacked up the hydropneumatic rear end in the wrong place and ripped out the brake lines. He started having problems almost straight away and threatened to plate SCTSH_ANDY one when he got under it and realised they'd only fitted a stainless back box by bodging it on to what was left of the original system. For this they rinsed him of £800. It was a stupid upswept 'DTM' system that looked crap and caused people at bus stops to laugh as he drove past. He then left it to rot at the bottom of his parents' garden when the tax and MOT ran out, and flogged it for £200.

Later he bought another Mi16x4 (this time in charcoal grey) from a colleague who had originally got SCTSH_ANDY to find him one. It was near mint and he treated it even worse. He wrecked the engine by running it around with no water in the radiator. He blew the transfer case, travelled to Devon to buy another (which turned out to be for a GLx4 and so unusable) and then left it to rot at the bottom of his parents' garden when an ex took him for all the money he didn't have. SCTSH_ANDY tried to buy it repeatedly before it ended up scrapped, and each time the lad refused, insisting that the [wrong] transfer case go with the car which altered the price. SCTSH_ANDY knew the transfer case was the wrong type and so didn't want to part with extra cash for a part he didn't want anyway.

The last either of us heard it got trailered to a garage to be 'done up'. It then got stolen \ hiabbed \ burnt out for the insurance money. Whatever way you look at it, it doesn't exist any more.

Conclusion: Our mutual ex friend should not be allowed nice things.

ah, if you want a SAAB 900 maybe it represents OK value for money - as a 170k shiteheap, the average punter would look at it and go - 'it's a pile of crap and if the visible rust is that bad (door top), what's it like where you can't see it'. Thing is, you can buy better for your £550, so unless you really wanted to, you'd be daft to.

I'd run it till the next MoT and break it for bits and anyone else who wouldn't is most likely talking tosh!

Now let me get back to my pint!

After receiving numerous calls from dickhead cold callers/spammers/scammers (depite us being on the Telephone Preference Service thing) I have managed to block any witheld numbers from calling the landline.

Big bonus in all this? Missus rang the mobile and said she can't get through to the house phone from work :D
