The lovely lady I met in Czech Republic is coming to visit on thursday. :D

Good Luck and if you want any "phrases" let me know and I'll get the missus to translate them for you.

Was browsing the latest Auto Trader today while lounging around at my friend's garage (/coffee bar/social club :D ) Cyprus edition of course.

What's a 1995 Alfa 164 2.0 worth? 6500, anyone? Even allowing for that being euros it looks a bit bloody steep, but that IS representative of the prices here. In another ad I found an extremely grinworthy 1966 PC Cresta for just 3000, so that's all right. DAX Cobra, 44 grand, anyone? My head's spinning now...

Thanks! Her english is very good, until she has a drink and then it all goes wrong, which I find hilarious.

Have you learnt Czech?

T'was the 2CVGB National this weekend just gone. Much silliness and chat and certainly not lines of cars being polished. Above is my mate's rather modified 2CV, complete with lasers. Sadly it failed to correct my short-sightedness.

Day out in Oxford at Christchurch College. We became quite a tourist attraction!

Just been offered loads of car bits for nowt because "they dont work on modern cars". So Compression tester, timing light etc have no place in modern motoring!

Not complaining though:)

Looked in the glovebox of the Scimitar today (hadn't had occasion to open it until now), and found the original owner's handbook and service booklet in there. The handbook is brilliant - it reads like something from the 1950s and is charmingly politically incorrect, consistently referring to the owner as "he".

The foreword sets the tone: "The Scimitar GTE, a high-performance car of distinction, has been designed, styled and engineered to meet the most exacting requirements in performance, appointment and comfort. Powered by an advanced design "Vee" engine [i've heard the Ford Cologne described as many things...], providing maximum flexibility and ensuring a smooth and powerful performance, the Scimitar GTE is a car for the connoisseur".

I get the impression the handbook was originally written for the SE4 and has just been updated when the car was modified. Either that or Reliant were trying to pretend that their plastic Ford-engined estate car was a rival to Bristol or Aston Martin...

Some slightly better news down the unit today.

I went down to pick up the cash MM5 left for me over the weekend, and lo and behold - our mysterious landlord in all his Shogun driving glory. He seemed pleased that the 480s had gone, and that the 305 was moving indoors.

I'm still waiting for the [massively] unequal distribution of space outside to be explained, given that we all pay the same rent.....

just spent 20 minutes cutting out and pasting a pug 404 estate from copy of Autocar that was dogeared and going bin-wards

I like the ones that tell you all about the harmful chemicals in the cigs...like "smoke contains benzene, nitrosamine, formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide". GR9 4 A-level Chemistry exams!

Meeting 'Magnificent Rustbucket" today. That old XJ40 he's got puts mine to shame when it comes to shiny shiny.

Looks like I'm gonna have to actually clean mine properly now.

Now up to 989.9 miles in nine days in the Cav and for two of those days it wasn't used. It hasn't missed a beat, used not a drop of oil or water and has been an absolute pleasure to drive.

I've not had any nocturnal visions of parcel tape nor been nearly choked to death by smoke so probably not.

My MIG welder is in someone else's garage at the moment while I weld up their Dolomite, but a couple of months ago, someone on here mentioned the Lidl stick welder at £35 so I bought one because I fancied a go at stick welding again. The wife came home tonight with the back box hanging off her Pug 106; witout the little arc welder, I'd wouldn't have been able to bodge together a decent repair tonight meaning that she doesn't have to take the Cavalier to work tomorrow.
