Chinese supermarkets seem to have alternative descriptions for the word "chicken"....

Most chickens are 8-12 week old cockerels.  A mature hen will be a strong flavour, and tough as old boots.  Good for a strong soup though

I understood the word "hen" to be a term of endearment in parts of Scotland.

Apropos of not much other than word association;

'Forces TV' (SKY 264) are showing the original series of 'The Dukes of Hazard'. It's on at 18:00 most evenings and also during the daytime sometimes.

Aside from the VERY obvious reason to watch this, it actually holds up far better than other such shows from the era - A Team, Knight Rider etc.

I stopped at the shop after a trip out on business and started reading texts describing what was needed.
As I was parked a bloke in a silver car bumps up the kerb and parks behind a Blue focus, parked sensibly in the road.

He came back out before I had got a reply to my "Do you really expect that to be in a Spar shop?"

He plipped the remote unlock and the Silver car unlocked, flashing lights and all that.

He spent 30 seconds locking and unlocking on the remote whilst trying to get in the BLUE car that wasn't his.

He is old enough to vote, he walks amongst us.

The Silver car was a Kia, evidently so bland he could not remember what it looks like, where he parked it or what colour it was!

I had a rental Nissan X-trail with work about 2 years ago and watched the same scenario play out with an old couple who had parked a Quashqai a few spaces a long.

I'm rather embarrassed to admit that recently I have done this a few times, I drive a Kia.

Going back a few years now (like 30), my Mum dropped my Grandad off at the chemist (to pick up a prescription) while she drove around the block a few times, as there was no parking.

Came back to find my Grandad flummoxed and upset with her.

Apparently another car (blue) came round the corner, slowed down outside the chemist, so he got in... only it wasn’t my Mums car...

The female driver screamed at him. The wonders of getting old!

I can top that. My wife dropped her brother off to nip into a shop. She then parked up and was waiting for her brother to come back. He came back but got in to a C-class. She was driving my Saab 9-3...

Admittedly he has below zero levels of interest in cars and hasn't got his licence. But still.

This just happened. Two days running now. Always a spine tingling treat of simply epic proportions.

I live close to Duxford and see it frequently and each time I am almost overwhelmed with emotions.

Not at all shite related. Can’t see a VE Day thread. Was tempted to start one but this’ll do.

I’m really enjoying this evening’s VE Day commemorations on the BBC and, indeed, the coverage earlier today too. I know the licence fee is contentious in this day and age but the Beeb’s approach to these things make it worth it in my view.

Primarily though, it’s really poignant too. In view of the current COVID situation, this has all been a timely reminder of how tough things can really be in life and the sacrifices made along the way.

eta - not suggesting for one moment that sacrifices aren’t being made now - NHS, carers, posties, refuse collectors, taxi drivers, bus drivers, supermarket workers, couriers and all, I’m looking at you. Thank you all for all that you’re doing in the current climate. ??

After I passed my test I was tasked with picking my mum up from work in the hospital ( she doesn’t drive) . Back then my dad had BXs and several times people started to get in thinking I was their taxi.

It was in my local news earlier - he lives in windlesham  a couple of miles from me. Almost spinal tap in nature.

Couldn't get the live feed to work on the BBC so watched Sky News instead.  After the Queen's Speech they had live footage from around the country (well around the south of it anyway) of people out in the streets singing "We'll Meet Again".  It was rather lovely, especially an octogenarian couple from Sussex who were really belting it out (the woman had a good voice) - the presenter then interviewed them about their memories of VE Day.  Scary to think that even people in their 80s can only just remember the end of the war now - won't be too long before the last veterans are leaving us.  When I was a lad (which really doesn't seem that long ago) I still remember there being plenty of WW1 vets in the Remembrance Day parade.

Agreed. It is a shame that Covid has robbed them of the opportunity to fully observe the last major anniversary any of them is likely to see. Nonetheless, I’ve been impressed by the efforts that have been made today by all concerned.

@trigger doing his bit for relieving the identikit Escort tedium in RetroFord.

Brilliant! I forgot all about that. The chap Rob Cheeseman messaged me on FB asking if I minded if he used it in the magazine and to give a few words about it, he's done a good Jon there. Thanks for posting it!
