What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

There are about three things I learnt from my mate who speaks Spanish and an ex-colleague from near Malaga, but unfortunately they're all rude!

You've won a course, that's just los cojones del perro! De puta madre! (this is the equivalent of effing excellent!)

However, it sounds like the course is a tough "son of a bitch" which is sort-of hijo de puta, but the literal is either "whore's mother" or "motherfucker".

The "C" bomb is apparently well used in Spain too, so much so that he'd hear old ladies use it in the same way old ladies who'd caught the hem of their skirt somewhere would used "bugger!" here.

The ex-colleague did rely quite a bit on google translate, though.  When he went up to Scotland to work on the new Forth bridge at the start of the year I sent him a copy of Michael Munro's "The Patter" - oddly enough, I believe the West Country lads got as much out of it as he did!.

Lovely Cortina!

Not sure about the pool ball gear knob though.

Chosen using the accessory on the passenger seat?

The heated seats work on my Xantia!

Yeah but one day you'll switch them on and the stereo will explode, French electrics are like Russian roulette   :-D

I've been learning Spanish for a bit. I can do an hour's Skype conversation with my Venezuelan teacher but am not fluent enough yet to feel I can tell people I can speak Spanish. Louise - if you want to borrow a few Spanish language films to watch PM me!!!! Got some good ones.

Decided to play work's game. I now have slightly higher priority and about 12 hours work this week, including the crititcal weekend evenings.

Onwards and upwards...

Got a "nice car mate" while fitting new sidelights in the Rover in Halfords' car park today.  Seemed to be a genuine compliment rather than sarcasm too, which was nice.

I can't remember the last time I saw a scorchio in the wild, I saw this beauty earlier when I went to the gym

Is that what they call it now?

The low slung, low budget coupe of desire has today won an MOT for another year. I found holes in the sill and inner wing in August a couple of weeks before the MOT was due and rather than pay someone to weld it I borrowed a welder, learned to mig weld and had a go at doing it myself.

While I was removing body panels I decided to respray the headlight covers, remove all the blistering paintwork back to bare metal on the nose panel and sills and swap on a shite 'gulf racing blue' bumper and tatty valance so I could tidy up/repair and respray mine properly over the winter. I also recently picked up a used, scratched but rust free Alpine White drivers wing off of eBay that's the white the rest of the car ideally should be but isn't. The car is probably more solid and filler free than it's been for some time, but looks an absolute shambles.

I'm very proud.

I really should update my 924 thread, lots has happened.

Posted

That 924 looks fantastically shonky,  well done and 5 stars :)

I've had an entertaining afternoon collection caper with the shiter formerly known as Dodgy Tom.  His Shogun is out of action so we took a big van from work for trailer dragging.

I wasn't quick enough with the camera but we did see a Rover P6, a Subaru XT on a trailer and a really tidy 205.  A minor bit of being lost happened as I was relying on mobile internet to find the car and we were in Shropshire but it came back for just long enough to find it.

After a while our destination was found and after a bit of a faff with paperwork that allowed us to pick up some interesting tales from the staff we collected this.

Seeing Tom driving it onto the trailer was a thing to behold,  shall we say the tracking is out on a galactic scale and the front wheel isn't round anymore.

It belongs to work and we arn't really sure what to do with it but at least we've got it back.  On the way back snacks were bought that would make Tamworth Bay go all funny.

Many thanks to Tom for a nice afternoon out,  I did find all my children afterwards.

Jammy Barsteward! Can’t find them anywhere near here, did you like them?

The most frustrating bit is we are staying less than 2 miles away from home! I am on holiday 2 roads away! I asked about commuting but the guy said no.

Sounds a bit like a cult, go steady. (or my recurring nightmare where I've parked my car in a city center and can't find it)

Aye they were nice,  I've been keeping my eye out for them and not seen them anywhere then Tom walks out of the garage with a tub.

Are you still on about your missing children?

I refused to go on residential courses ever again after a bad experience with a bottle of Paul Masson wine and a recently divorced woman, some years ago but still have mental scars, lock your door and stick a chair under the handle then nail it shut, then weld it shut

Posted

I have been sneaking home after the guy running the course leaves. It means the others have a room each.

We went to the local pub last night, tiny Welsh village so just us, the barmaid and a couple with their grandaughter. All languages other than Spanish were banned so that was tricky for me! But the others had loads to say for me to practice listening.

After the food arrived the little girl from the other table walked past and said "buenas noches". Then granny came over and joined in!

Wasn't expecting that!

Una Mesa para Quattro por favore. That’s about the only Spanish I know!

I got a higher in Italian when I was at school and could speak it quite well but now I can barely remember anything.

Posted

Yep, it shows! I've de-Italianised it for you :-)

LOL I did not bad with the spelling considering it was all guesswork from hearing it said by Kevin Bridges on one of his stand up tours when talking about those language CDs.

These also get called "three doors" for some reason.

Ben

1 driver's door

1 passenger door

1 door they let their brain out of before they write the advert

Under those black rocks are small orange led to give a glow through them to give the magical feeling, ive also lacquered the stem in hope that the rose head will oxidize slightly over time and the stem stay shiney

This should sort out who is the most depraved on the forum...

There has been a long running joke about one bloke in the office liking pegging. One of the new guys didn't know what it meant so I obviously told him the 'truth' that it meant a feathered bird had shit on you. That happened to him today & he's been going around work telling everyone a bird pegged him this morning.

His face was a picture when I let slip the truth just before we all left tonight.

Brilliant!

Not my thing I must admit but a guy I used to work with got a screwdriver up the arse by his girlfriend and then came into work the next day gobbing off about it!

We all took the piss royally of course but he said don't knock it til you've tried it!!

It's still a very firm no from me though!
