What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Lobbed some stuff in a tip not too far from here and noticed a decent McCulloch petrol mower, another (make) one and a small generator. 'The cheaper mower runs, the other and the generator' needs stripping and working on'. I asked him if he'd primed the mower and done anything with he genny 'I'm a mechanic mate, I've done all that. They need stripping down and fiddling with'

Hey ho, £25 for all three; the cheap mower smokes but cut my lad's lawn superbly and I started on the others today: genny seemed to have to much 2T in the fuel, so emptied it, refilled then noticed the fuel switch was off. Put it to 'on' and it fired straight up.

The McCulloch I just topped up the fuel, wouldn't start so I swapped plugs from the other mower and it fired up first pull.

All the good stuff at my local tip is put to one side.

If you go anywhere near it the "Guardians" get very excited, come running over shouting "LEAVE THAT ALONE, LEAVE THAT ALONE,"

then start looking in the car just in case you've taken any of their bonus.

It quite amusing really.

A fellow Patrol swapped this over the other day and had to get a picture before it went pop.

Yep, plenty of tread left on that. "OMG touting for business, total rip-off, I'm contacting Dominic Littlewood rite now m8"

Not as much 'windforce' as would be created had that been driven for a few more miles until the inevitable happened.

I am now officially a truckie! Well, Category C anyway, so can drive big rigid trucks now.

My bosses will be pleased, there's been a new 12 ton Atego sat in the factory nearly a month waiting for me to pass this...

I tried to scrap it, you demanded to buy it! Besides it came with an industrial quantity of free dirt.

Re the Windforce, what causes that kind of tyre tumour? Is it just the integrity of the rubber diminishing or summat?

A tyre will have several layers, with the outer sidewall being being there just to keep the water and elements out of the steel belts inside.

What's happened is the internal "sealing" layer has failed, probably because someone smacked it up a kerb. The air pressure then inflates the sidewall layer and forces it to come away from the structure.

Maybe I'm missing something...why does it make you grin?

The old morecombe and wise joke.

"She's a lovely mover"

" she should be, she's on castors"

Had a lovely drive out into the Derbyshire Peaks today, spotted a black mk4 Escort RS turbo on the way out. Saw it again on the way back but the different angle meant I also saw the blue 3dr Sierra on fordpervs drive. Saw the man himself a minute later in his lovely Sapphire parked outside a shop.

Did you see him later in the bathroom as you were hiding in a tree?

Should have given me a beep :-)

My Subaru Brat has got knocking outter cv joints, and replacements are right sods to get hold of now days.

And what i have previously replaced have been recon ones that soon start to rattle after a few weeks.

So i went and bought a pair of new complete driveshafts from Rockauto.com in the U.S

The grin is they were £62 for the pair with shipping another £30 and they took just eight days to land on my door step.

Can't complain about that.

I hammered a bigger socket over it!

Young guy at work with a knackered old SaaB  9-3 Diesel and rear pads down to the metal broke the wheelnut key.

Someone had told him I could sort him out (?) and I knew what to do because of Autoshite, so I made my excuses and gave it a go.

A handy box of (otherwise redundant) Whitworth sockets and a sledgehammer and job done!

The first one was really tight, rusty and screaming as it unscrewed. The other three were easy.
