I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I'm totally out of touch with the world around me. Whilst having lunch in a cafe I picked up a copy of the Mirror and honestly didn't know about 75% of the people that were featured in it's pages. Even the ones I have some sort of "brand awareness" of like Christine Bleakley and Tess Daly I can say I've never watched on TV. To be honest I probably wouldn't even regognise the vast majority of the actors in Coronation Street these days. Apparently the X Factor is big news these days but I would struggle to name any of it's previous winners.

People moan about living in a era of celebrity but I'm quite happy living in my little bubble thank you very much.

For someone of my age, I have an absolutely pathetic knowledge of current celebrities - ask anyone who knows me. There's some names I'll hear over and over, but I often won't be able to pin them to a face because my only information about them has been gleaned from overhearing some people from work talking about them. Most of the ones I do know, it'll be because I caught a glimpse of them on the cover of a newspaper or caught it on someone else's TV. I very rarely watch TV nowadays, I just watch old films or boxsets or mouth off on here for entertainment. I'm sure still there's some good stuff on the box (somewhere), but I really can't be bothered sifting through it all.

The funny thing is that despite this lack of celebrity interest, I would consider myself to be pretty well-informed about politics and world affairs, so not in a bubble as such. I just don't think the goings-on of a load of celebrities has ever been interesting, unless there's something completely absurd about it (e.g. Gazza going to see "Moaty" with some chicken and a bathrobe). People get divorced and cheat on each other all the time, so it's not like it's much more interesting for being some footballer/musician/daft woman.

The funny thing is, the people who seem obsessed with celebrities don't usually know/understand about anything that might actually matter. I mentioned Kim Jong-il in the office once and was astounded that only about 20% people had even heard of him, yet they all seemed to know who the girl who presents the regional weather. Whilst she might have some sway in a small area of West Yorkshire, I doubt she has the power to start an international war. One celebrity who has always baffled me is Coleen Rooney - what does she do? I think all she's ever done is go shopping, why is she so well-loved and considered fascinating? How come she isn't a national figure of hatred? At least Posh Spice was in a successful band (many years ago).

Ha! Rooneys misses is up for mum of the year ffs!! The baby is not even a year old yet!

How can you be a mum of the year for warming up formula milk and wiping it's arse?? And she probably has a nanny to do that anyway...

Even occasional X Factor viewers would struggle.

What makes me grin? After being made redundant at the end of August after nine long years (so, I'm currently off on the notice period... I quickly decided against working it given the circumstances of the departure), last night I accepted a job offer. I could very well be starting next week meaning not only will I be earning a decent living again, the swines who made me redundant still have to pay me October’s pay, plus my redundancy! Result...! :D The first piece of decent news I’ve had in months, if not for much of this year.

The perks of the new job? Close to £3k per annum more for a near enough identical role, less overall responsibility, less driving for the company, a considerably cleaner working environment and not having to deal with certain customers ever again who I absolutely loathed.

Once the official offer paperwork comes through the door (expected on Thursday), I'll only be too happy to advise them this when I chase them up for my P45...

The downsides to the new job? I've got about another five minutes driving to/from work a day and I've got to work an hour more a week. However, that's neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.

Same here. I'm quite proud of the fact that I've never heard of these celebs. Some of the younger generation are unfortunately sucked in by this obession with celebs. I've never understood it myself, why look up to some self-obessed twat who acts like a diva and we are meant to give to a toss.

If someone tries to talk to me about a 'celeb' I usually give the old man type puff and say I've never heard of 'em.

We've lose real talents like Norman Wisdom and Tony Curtis, and what do we end up with instead? Talentless self-obessed twats who havent an ounce of talent/brainpower between them.

Every so often someone tries to talk to me about xfactor.

I tell them that I don't watch it as its utter shit.

I have a large desire to buy this t-shirt

One of the best things about being self employed is that now I don't have tp spend the day in an office surround by celeb obsessed girls discussing people they don't actually know and who wouldn't give a fuck about them.

Anyway, back to cheerful - my day has been brightened by seeing a Reliant Rebel, albeit a dead looking one, on the M1 (on the hardshoulder), plus driving through a tat enclave just outside Leicester - within 1/4 of a mile there are, on various driveways the following - Austin Gypsy on axle stands, various elderly Saabs, dead Beetle, 2 x dead SD1s, derelict Nova, Mk1 Multipla and a couple of others I have forgotten.

The only celebrity thing I watch is Strictly Come Dancing - should I be ashamed to admit it? Must admit that I don't know about two thirds of the people in it. But it's quite nice seeing people develop skills - as well as watching girls prance about in tiny frocks.

But - we've just put our telly on the market! Can I cope without a telly? Hope so...

I have been smiling at this for a short while....

If I saw that shirt in a shop in the UK , I would definately complain to the store manager. I really can't imagine what sort of person would buy that T -shirt and therefore what store 'buyer' would opt to stock it. Utterly crass and another example of the 'vulgarising' of society. Like wise the FCUK T-shirts that were all the rage a while ago...ha,ha how witty. Not.

+1. I have a load of T-shirts with various pictures and/or slogans on them, but rest assured none of them resemble this in any way! Well there is one that says "Love Machine" but then it also has a pic of a 1969 Oldsmobile 442, so I think I can reasonably assume it relates to that....

Assuming that was photographed somewhere overseas (probably oriental?), I should think it's an in-joke on the part of an english-speaking designer, who knows full well that 99% of the people who see it (including the wearer) won't have a clue how to even pronounce it, let alone what it means, and that the buyer/wearer would probably be horrified if they did actually know. I'm positive that most of the ubiquitous japanese t-shirt slogans over here translate to something utterly ridiculous/obscene/both.

(nB I do actually own such a t-shirt, purchased about 15 years ago, and consulted a japanese-speaking acquaintance before wearing it in public 8) so meh.)

That's like the Viz T-shirt that I had over 10 years ago - it had "suck my cock" in Naval flags on the front!

Who are you going to be working for now then?

I've found out, from another 'source', that another Shiteist will soon be joining me in Riva-ownership. This makes me grin :mrgreen::mrgreen:

That is all.

Just got the V5C though for the Maestro diesel I bought a while back. It didn't come with a V5C so I had to apply for one. Somehow I'm astounded that its all worked out ok for once!

The other strange/good thing is the V5C only has 1 previous owner, when it should show 3ish.. Peculiar but I guess less previous owners is good.

Oh, and it's MOT'd till January, which I didn't know about either. Yay!

Having a job never stopped me from drinking in the day - if anything, it encouraged it.

The Mrs has popped out. I'm sat on the sofa, beer in one hand, PPC mag on lap. I've got speakers on my Ipod playing an awesome early 90s Old Skool Hardcore/House mix I ramdomly found. Oh and the smell from the kitchen suggests my Burritos nearly done

happy days :D

There is clearly someone local to me with a fairly eclectic car collection, because there is constantly interesting cars coming out of Kings Street. Today, I saw one of these!

My lad is doing exceptionally well at work and college. He's done a clutch on a Toyota pick-up virtually single handed and is a very quick learner. He's also just got his provisional through and has his first lesson on Saturday. How I'm going to laugh when he has to get up early to pick his mum up from work

Finally getting back behind the wheel of my car. After all the palava of insurance documents and trying to buy tax I am finally back on four wheels.

Congrats Lord Sterling, pleased you're mobile at last! Rovers next on the list?

My grin? Classic insurance. 25, second car, imported eunos. Confused and the like couldn't beat £1500, and in fact it was cheaper to insure my other half, who's just had her second driving lesson.. The N16 is nearly £600 in this postcode.

FJ came in at £275, including breakdown. Can't wait to pick it up now :D

Talking of FJ, I always dread having to ring them as they take an age to answer the phone. Had to ring them yesterday to remove the 1100 from my insurance and the phone was answered straight away, for the first time.

Ah, I don't really mind that too much. I used to do their IT support, so I know a little about the systems they use, and they aren't quick..
