My grin is that a friendly neighbour rang the doorbell today and gave me these, as he was clearing out some old shelves and thought I might like them:

Obviously I was very excited, not least because I own (or part own) cars in three of the five brochures (my Vauxhall missed the cut on a fourth by about 3 years).

The 1983 Ford range brochure features the Sierra base complete with dangly mirrors - but with the grey grille airbrushed red.

Mmm, that dash is a symphony of blanking plates.

Looks at watch and wonders how long before the mumsnet police shout the men down backed up by bearded friend and then the men all apologise

That's strange, because I clearly remember the grey grille from brochures at the time.

I had the same brochure and the one from the year before, it's the same photo they coloured it in :-)

^ This. Grey was 1982 model year only. If you look closely you can tell they've just airbrushed it red, and also Cow-Gummed the Ford badge back on wonky.

Watched Jason Bourne the other night.

There is a flashback where Bourne's father is murdered. It shows the hitmen driving away.

In a frontera.

Exhaust parts bought! New downpipe (no cat though, I presume that's fine on a derv of its age, 1997),backbox and some fancy poly exhaust mounts because they were cheap.

I did have a new fitting kit in the basket but realised the downpipe I bought said it was for a d and TD and after the debacle of the zx's exhaust where the d and TD fitment are very different, I changed to a TD specific pipe at £8 more, and ran out of money, so I'll hope the existing fittings are fine, Chompy had them off at least once to make the exhaust so they should be fine, even if they go back on we'll enough for now I'll buy a new kit another day.

Now just got to hope the lot turns up in time for next weekend!

Thanks dad for the early Christmas pressie! No money for magic snake oil though, so some inappropriate driving will ensue, I hate ragging my cars, doesn't feel right

I've just bought another Rover 25(tested until June & with full leather) from eBay for £50  :-) .The seller says it runs but may overheat after about 10 miles.I'm going to chance it,& try and drive back from Ashford(about 25 miles),I've got RAC so not too worried. The plan is break it to fix both my crashed Express,& the 25 Diesel I bought last week.

That July 1983 brochure is the first one to feature the body colour grille on the Sierra Base. I have the June edition where it is still grey.

I wouldn't worry about injector cleaner or thrashing it. Just ask who ever it was who messed with the pump what they did to it and then correct it. Do this before fitting a new exhaust otherwise you will fill the new one up with soot in no time. Modifying cars is all well and good, but there is a reason manufactures set the pumps the way they do.

I can't do that as Chompy seems to have done a breadvan, but deleted all his content! But the pump internals were amended, so I can't just 'turn screws' and fix it.

I have a fair bit of info to get going on, so I'll adjust the air and fuel and hope. I took it to 4k+ a few times this morning and there was no smoke at all (well once but the engine was slightly cold still). It no longer puffs out a grey cloud when I turn it on, that's got to be good right? It'll never be smoke free either, I thought all 1.9td's emit a bit of smoke when provoked?

Did anyone ever find out what it was that caused Chompington to mince off into the distance?

I think something just rattled him and he wondered off. I don't know ins and outs. I do know he said something about the internals of pump having a land rover pin. I know he also turned fuelling up and did something inside. Turned diaphragm down maybe?? I believe he also did something to the waste gate rod of turbo.

The gentle ribbing in the 'goona thread as far as I can work out.
