The detectorists on BBC something (watched on the iPlayer) it's like the office but not a fake documentary

BBC4. Only two episodes in and I think it's great...I love the unmentioned things like the picture of Lance's TR7 on his lounge wall...No laugh track either which is always good. :-D :-D :-D

I heard that McKenzie crook on the radio talking about the detectorists. He and it sounded well interesting. He bought the TR7 off the production company after they'd finished filming. Respect!

Good: 924 passed MOT again without any advisories and minimum faffin with rear lights. Not bad for 33 years old!

Bad: Car refused to start after the MOT. Arse biscuits!

I decided to go for the grin thread as having the car towed home without an MOT would have been doubly depressing. But even though I gave Mrs D some useful tips for towing she still nearly ripped the front end off several times. She wasn't receptive to any more tips when we got back. Honestly some people just don't appreciate good advice! Apparently having to tow a car home after work on a Thursday is not her idea of fun!

Just had someone come to get a dc04 for £50 and only had £60. We had no change so I ragged it to a cash point and back.

Swmbo said the look on the lady's face was priceless, think she was hoping I'd go "ah fuck it, have it for £40"...

She was chatty though apparently!

oh hey, Beko, do you know where I can get good filters for a DC01?  Mine is about due.

Posted

Boggo yellow and grey model, or one with a HEPA filter?

Dc01, top shite vacuuming! When was the belt last done?

Posted

Just a boggo DC01, but the sparkly special edition version.  Ã‚£15 from the tip a decade ago, it had been dumped for being 'broken' when in actual fact the first owners had managed to cram it so full of carpet fluff and a vending machine token they'd burned the belt out within about a week of owning it.  Replaced that and job jobbed.  I think it had another belt about five years ago so it's probably going to be getting ready again, the motor sometimes seems a bit slow but not like it's going to die.

Over the years it's had a replacement base plate and bumper after the originals were worn out, a replacement wand when the original got snapped by accident, a pair of wheels because the old ones snapped and countless filters.  It's missing a wheel arch too.  It's not the HEPA version but the last filters I put in seemed to be a bit undersized and the DC01 is a bit noisy as a result.

Here it is pictured with the Zanussi oven from shiter AlabamaShrimp and the Indesit Moon washing machine I swapped for the remains of a Princess.  I'm living the Autoshite Housewife Dream here.

Oh, and the reason I could do with putting a new filter in, it's about 3 months overdue.

I think it's because when a Dyson works it works brilliantly. When a VW works it's just as good as everything else but more expensive.

Ah, a Rannalf Feinns Antarctic solo special from 95/96. Nice!

Motors are unobtanium now alart from breaking another machine for it! Filters don't look too bad though, so its not shedding its carbon brushes too quickly!

Got a couple of hoses for these if your ever in need!

Sounds about right being clogged up, that's why my dear stijl one was being thrown out! The sharp internal airflow angles don't so it any favours there!

You should be able to re grease the brushroll bearings too, if they have a black plastic cap each side then pop that out and fill with grease!

I think they look shit. Like a kid's Fisher Price toy.

I've got one and I hate it. I hate having to drag the body bit round behind the hose so it gets bashed off the skirting board, the hose gets stood on and on more than one occasion I've dropped the whole thing because I find it such a faff to carry about.

Still haven't managed to break the fucker.

We haven't broken a Henry yet and we haven't needed to strip it down and grease the bearings either . Haven't got the time or inclination to do that to my car let alone my Hoover .

we've had our henry since 92 and it gets used for everything from general house work to sweeping the chimney, never ever had a bag in it either

when it lays down it will get buried in the garden as he feels like an old friend.

Older Henrys are gr9

However, newer ones not so. The newer hi/lo ones especially.

There's a PCB that controls it all now, and its situated in full view of the motor, so gets covered in carbon dust and blows, killing the machine. I then come along and buy it for <£10, spend £15 on a new PCB and give the whole thing a refurb, new set of small tools and 3 bags, and sell for £70-80!

Got a 2009 one in the front room now that has broken cable winder contacts, they arrived today so will fit them and charge the owner £23.50 next week when I hand it back!
