What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

No, I suspect it's an authentic seaside photo from the 50s or 60s. The question in my mind is which one of the women knitted the child's cardigan?

Edit: duh, it'll most likely have been the one with the headscarf and the knitting needles.

Been telling 'er indoors I 'need' a new camera because my old one is past it's sell by date. This afternoon she treated me to a new one (Fujifilm Finepix) and I'm just trying it out now. Mixed bag of reasonable and bloody awful pictures until I get the hang of it, specifically the (18X) zoom feature.

Happy with this one:

I wanted the zoom for when we take the dog for a walk and I spot some birds up in the trees so I can try and get a close up of them and obv. for practising my shite spotting snaps with it too.

It's broken already Billy. The date stamp isn't working.

Hmmm. That'll be the madness behind the Commer Rootes TS3 and Napier Deltic then. Thinking about those engines too much still makes my brain hurt.

I'm grinning after a happy weekend at La Vie en Bleu. Was bloody hard work, so I didn't have time to seek the Autoshite Massive - but there were two Pug 604s on the cavalcade, which was more exciting than the Veyrons. Possibly. There was also a beige Peugeot 205. I thought it was the best cavalcade of cars I'd ever seen in my life, but sadly - and for reasons that still make no sense at all - it included a Ford Mondeo and a BMW 1-Series.

Something else that made me grin was the Veyron Super Sport setting a fastest time of 46.5 seconds, then a very well driven Peugeot 106 managing it in 47.1. Kind of highlights how pointless it is to have a car with 1300bhp. It's unusable unless you own a very long and flat bit of land.

I do hope you had a camera with you - and it ain't for the Veyrons.

I like this one, it's like the start of Cracker or something.

'Murrderhhhh' indeed.

Please take your new camera to your lockups, that would be bloody brilliant. I had a FinePix but it got viciously borrowed the last time I went to Wigan. Bad times.

That reminds me of the No Skooler's reactions to a car park full of rare metal in Arnage.

Firstly, 'Whoa! A Ferrari F40!'

[goes round the corner]

'Fuck me! Another F40!'

Next, a Ford GT pulls into the car park and parks next to the first F40. Nev walks further up and into the distance. My phone rings.

'Jesus! A five door Mk1 Renault 5!'

:D

I did. Still sifting through them - may have to hold on putting some of them up as they may be going in one of the mags, but you can have this one for free.

Finally got a photo of the wob laden, welded about four million times, hot piece of BMC van action that turns up around here about two times a year. I got a filthy look for it, but who cares.

1) You are Roobarb and I hereby claim my five pounds.

2) You have a drinking problem Ollie Reed would have been proud of.

3) Your eyesight needs adjusting.

So which one is it then? :P

They did make some I believe quite a limited number, there is some info on them here:

At first I thought it was just a normal Lancer estate tarted up but apparently not.

Scoring this old Radiogram from Ebay for £1.70 made me grin today. It's in very good condition, and most of it still works!

Anyone else interested in old/antique radios? I've got quite a collection now, most of the tattier ones can be bought for very little money, in fact I've never paid more than a fiver for one. Some even work ;)

Yeah, the forum spirit does seem to have done its best to ignore The Unpleasantness. Jolly good!

^^Bloody hell Dicky, that's lovely! You're old enough to be my youngest son, so it's really grinworthy to find someone your age lapping up this old stuff. I hope that doesn't sound patronising or anything, it isn't meant to; it's meant to encourage you to find and preserve more beautiful old stuff!

+2.

It's been a joy to read all the posts recently and B01's Fiat buying adventure is the icing on the cake.

Quality! I've got a couple of old bakalite radios in the loft, and I think Watanabe is a bit of a radio fan...I could be wrong mind, but there are cryptic messages in his postings if you look closely ;)

My grin (which could have been a grump) is about morons who post comments on youtube videos.

I just checked my emails, new comment on an old video I'd forgotten that I'd left active by a user called fhhuckyou who says I need a bath. Surprisingly, he isn't wrong, and I'm running one at the minute, but I'm not annoyed because I checked his comment history and what he said to me was virtually a compliment going on his other postings.

PS, don't watch the video unless you want to see me try and play an 80 year old harmonica full of dust....

I bought a six-month tax disc for the Camry V6 today, driving that to work tomorrow will hopefully be the result of an entry to this thread. However, in the meantime what pleased me is that said disc cost £118.25, when I got to work I found an expenses claim had been paid, totalling £118.35 8)

Also, on the way into work I 'found time' to pop into a scrapyard and have an idle wander around, then later on happened to spot a very smart Carina II on a driveway and got into a conversation with the owner. He's had it from new, done 63k, it's some special edition celebrating 25 years of Toyota in the UK. It might be coming up for sale soon, he's got my number.

Haf a mile up the road from that one, I spotted the beige, elderly-owned E-reg Bluebird which I've seen a few times before out and about. Decided against stopping for a chat with them today, just in case they do something silly like say that it'll be available, but I must pop round there soon. At least I know the owners are alive and well.

Not a bad day then.

BIG fan of old radios here. I have far too many if I'm honest. I've posted pictures of what I've got before, but a list to recap.....

IMG_4353.jpg

Tesla Talisman 308U (via Pete-M's friends in Liberec) - works

Zenith H511 Racetracks (white and brown) - white one works, brown one is in a bit of a state.

Ferguson 218 UXL -works.

Bush DAC 90 (hybrid between a 90 and a 90A) - broken (FOR SALE)

Radialva Super AS - broken

Zenith H725 - works.

Ecko A222 - clock works (FOR SALE)

Philco One O Two - works

Most I've ever paid for a radio was £75, and it was WELL worth it for the utterly gorgeous Talisman (complete with original box) that Pete-M's mate found for me. It would have gone for £120-150 over here easily.

In other news, the 106 Rallye wheels look rather fit on the 305. Not got any decent pictures yet though. Massive props to Pete-M who cleared up some of the running issues last night, and drank my pish coffee while I moved trees across the unit.

Received my signed copy of the Rural Alberta Advantage's Hometowns. It's great.

C4 passed its MOT. Thank God. Got a couple of verbal advisories about the brakes, but the front discs and pads have lasted 60k plus a metric shitload of abuse doled out when I went chasing Alfas around Curborough. Front tyres are also a bit low at 3mm, but they've done 38k so I'm not complaining. Sort of makes a mockery of what Citroen said about my driving - and that I thrashed the car to death.

Has your cat seen Sadako's video? :?

Give it 7 days or so, you'll find out soon enough.
