I'm probably the only Viva owner on this forum

Junkyarddog's post on the grin thread earlier today would suggest otherwise.

Bloody hell, the state of that HC. There's not very much to salvage, agreed...

They're not that popular, but have a following and are increasingly sought after for modified cars probably as rear wheel drive with loads of space under the bonnet.  Frankly if someone is prepared to save that, they should be allowed to modify it.

Ain't that that truth. I let this rust-free example go in 2005 for £250 - yep, as seen here, albeit with head gasket woes that I couldn't get to fix as I was living away.

They were worth virtually NOTHING in 1256cc saloon form in the early 2000s, distressingly - estates/coupés/1800/2300 examples did tend to fetch some coin, but even the classifieds page in the Viva Club mag at the time was full of 'free to good home, too good to scrap' HCs. I'd spent a packet on it over eight years of ownership, but lost storage twice in quick succession and could do no more.

Should never have let it go - seemingly it passed through a few owners before being left to moulder outside for a number of years until it was somewhat frilly. Junkyarddog happened to sweep up the pieces, and at least some bits of mine live on in his beaut of an Apache Orange HC (as seen on the Grin thread).

It's odd that despite being quite a neatly styled little car, easy to work on and with few vices, they never really had their moment in the sun - and even now are seen mostly as a bargain way to get into the modding scene. That said, this yellow example probably doesn't have many other options... it's well and truly fooked.

Bit of a sad occasion as has been a brilliant car, but 6 months outside whilst MOT fixes get done at the rate of one every eight weeks or something is just pointless...

I know it's fashionable to H8 these cars, but they're actually ace.

A mate had a company one - he's now onto his 4th Espace..... his had some catastrophic gearbox failure IIRC.........

His Espace is 6mths old - died completely as he was in the outside lane of the local motorway. I did reply with the usual TADTS. He refuses to get a BMW.

What was (still) wrong with it when you got rid?

He refuses to get a BMW.

I can definitely understand that, but an Espace does sound like scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The battery was kaput (hence boost pack) but I had a good spare charged one in the Transit, so that's fitted now. The other Puma I was going to collect didn't happen( my fault) so that's it for now.

Did get a recall from Suzuki though for the ignition on the Ignis. Be quite funny to drop it into them to sort as it falls to bits on their forecourt.

Good man, extra points for style and taste.

Or as Samuel Pepys might have said, "he wilt not be witnessed within a shibbledeshoth from Bavaria; nay, not even after he be gathered to the bosom of the Lord. A pox upon they and their Wurstmunching kind."

I can see Pepys being adopted as a fount of Shite wisdom!

You are the magnet for the most shite vehicles in the locality. That takes skill, dedication and a resounding amount of no fucks given.

I am always amazed.

Our binmen come on a Thursday. A day before yours it seems. But you do keep your stock fresh and rotated. So fair play to you.

Anyone know if the front bumpers are these are the same as the car ones? Would have thought they'd be all the same.

They're certainly interchangeable.

Given the trouble my mate has had finding a Mk3 or 4 van, this could be one for the pasture of pleasure or whatever is called.

Field of fail?

Plot of plop?

Allotment of awful?

Meadow of mediocrity?

Lea of liability?

Anyway, I digress.

Mk3 vans = ££££££

You don't see a Viva for years and then three come along. Bloody typical, eh?

Not owned one of these before, so best to try one with about ten days MOT, a flat tyre and illegible mileage. Not to mention badly mayonnaised oil filler cap.
