The Dyane heads to its new home today, in London! I'm about to head out with the tools as it was pinking a bit last time I drove it. Let's hope I don't break anything!

Bounced into town to collect the Dyane buyers. Nice day for it.

I have quite a sense of loss seeing the Dyane drive away, even though it (incredibly) managed to turn in a profit - just when the 2CV project is spiralling into Expensive terrority. These aircooled Citroens really do get under the skin.

However, I now feel much less terrified by the rising costs of the 2CV project, so there is a silver lining to this cloud. I'd better keep well way from Ebay for a while!

Justification for Escort Mk5 spot? Well, it is a Sapphire special edition (151 left on the road). Also, just musing why Ford's marketing gurus called an Escort a Sapphire just after the discontinuation of the booted Sierra of the same name (its not even a booted escort).   :?

Looks like a local car from new.

Got a pair of brand new tyres on the front of the Rover from a local tyre fitting place.  Friendly chaps, good service, would use again.  Budget was a concern so I've ended up with some Corsa 122s, which I've never heard of and light internet searching hints are fairly new to the market and nobody knows how good or bad they really are.

I've driven a couple of miles in the dry on them today, they feel adequate in corners, slightly better on grip when setting off but a bit noisier than the Events that were fitted.  I've never had brand new tyres on my own car (and one would argue that now I've driven on these, I no longer have brand new tyres on my own car) so I wasn't really sure what to expect.  There's certainly a nice warm fuzzy feeling at knowing I've treated the car to something new.  When I can afford to I'll get the rears done and put the still-okay Fate-O tyre in the boot as a reasonable spare.  Do new tyres need to 'bed in' like brakes?  I have a feeling they do and they'll get a bit better with use.

Ive always avoided spirited driving on new new tyres, although tbh I don't really drive spiritedly anymore...

New tyres are nice! Especially once the sticker rubs fully off the tread

Link broken :(

Sorry - looks like it is for Privilege customers only :-(, I thought it was working for anyone...

However Old Man mentioned that the springs looked very similar uncompressed. Hm.

Sounds ok to me.

If the springs were shorter then they could fall out of place when the suspension is unloaded over bumps etc. What they normally seem to do is one tall/thin coil at the end to take up the gap, the weight of the car is enough to flatten that & get to the stiffer bit.

mini failed the MOT, emissions apparently though it not having a cat will not have helped. this hasn't been an issue in the last 3 years, but this year it is.

cannot be arsed getting it fixed, so its been pushed back into the garage until i get rid of the ungrateful, rusty little twat.

jaguar booked into another place for its tests next week, i wonder what that will fail on?

i'm pig bloody sick of shitty old cars,

i see a fire sale coming to a forum near here (ok it will be here first)

I've been offered an MGF for £250 all I know is its nightfire red.

I know next to nothing about them but feel I cant go wrong at that price.

That MG F could be a bargain or it could be the worst mistake you've ever made.

After a few more miles the new tyres I had fitted have quietened down nicely and are feeling a bit less... waxy?... I can't think of a better word to describe how they felt initially.  I'll need to do the back ones soon though, I've definitely now got more grip at the front than the back, hardly surprising since I've got old mismatched tyres on the back end at the moment.

MGF only going cheap as they are off to Spain to live.

FiL reckons £200 would have it.

MGFs aren't worth a great deal at present but even £200 is cheap, especially so if it's got any sort of road legal type status.  Eligible for cheap classic insurance, bags of parts support and welcome pretty much anywhere as well as being super little cars by all accounts.  They can go a bit crumblybum steamypants, but the same is true of just about any mid-engined sports car.  If you like it and you want it and you have the pennies then go for it.  Even I probably would at that price.

Buy it!

It must have £200 worth of spares on it if it turns out to be knackered.

Tomorrow I will use the term "crumblybum steamypants" in everyday conversation.

Can anyone be arsed taking on a 324k mile Audi? I've tried to bodge the exhaust to get it running properly without spending any real money on it but it'll really want sorting properly (blows like fuck now)

Lost interest, wouldn't be looking for much over scrap for it

Anyone interested in the Visa before it goes on ebay? I'm waiting for a new front numberplate to arrive before I take a proper set of photos but you all know what it looks like. Nice unmolested car with very low miles, some history, clean and tidy and ready to go. Looking for £1500.

That is pretty enough to be cheap at £200 for a garden ornament. If it even half works it is a really good car.

or if its as good* as MG F's usually are, simply take the seats out and fill with earth for that garden planter look.

there is no roof to have to angle grind off!
