Not a good afternoon I went to get two more 1000 Ltr water tanks for collecting rain water at our field using the Xantia and 8x4 trailer, 5 miles from base still unloaded fortunately I felt a strange vibration as I reached 50 mph so I stopped to check. Sure enough the n-s trailer wheel bearing has failed so I crept home at under 25mph worrying I was going to loose a wheel, made it but too wet and windy to tackle it today.

Coming back the Xantia turned 100,000 miles.

I have just got home and found an email to say I had won an MG ZR with 11 months MOT but dented this afternoon for £196, I was looking forward to collecting it and the next email said the seller had cancelled the order. There was no discussion so I can only think the seller thought it was too cheap and would not part with it.

I was watching this... If the seller thinks it's worth more than £200, he's a dreamer !

How about this one instead ? It looks better than the green one and is still cheap. Two hours to go !

I have that one on watch but it has a shortish MOT with an advise front crossmember excessively corroded, harder to get too Bridport and I prefer the green. No decision at this stage.

Oh and just to make @beko1987's trousers get shorter, let me present my garage vacuum cleaner:

Noticed this morning the front NS tyre was flat on the Mondeo, so a quick bit of swappage means it's now on the spare steel. Looks shit with one mismatched wheel so I'll get the other one fixed pronto.

Didn't take long to find the problem

Buoyed by the fact I managed to change a wheel without breaking something, I then decided to change the ABS/speedo sensor on the Cavalier as the speedo readings have been a bit random. Rather than prise it out carefully I ended up getting annoyed and this happened

So I now have no speedo readings at all and the ABS light is on, well done me. I'll probably go to my friendly mechanic Les and sheepishly ask him to fix my cock up, as not sure I can be bothered! Despite trying to lever it out the other end, the remains of the sensor are lodged solid. Car still drives so that's the main thing.

Took the train with Italianjob jr ( his first ride) to collect the alfa 155. In an Autoshite-meets-victor kiam moment I liked the courtesy car so much I bought it (a mildly crumpled cinquecento sporting) so had to find alternative means back to the garage. The trip back over dartmoor coincided with apocalyptic levels of rain which left many roads small rivers and at various bridges the water level was higher than I've ever seen. Still got back fine even though driveway space has got tight ( a pint sized Fiat fits perfectly though)

After five days I now have a courtesey car.

My choices were an Audi Q7, Q5 or a RAV4.Although I'm a bit of a dickhead by driving a new Audi I might be branded a complete dickhead. Also after driving for 30 years I didn't want to lose the ability to drive sensibly as soon as I got behind the wheel.I chose the Toyota.Absolute 80's on the DAB radio ftw.

As I'm usless I forgot the name of the car seat fixer person I found in town, then being lazy kept forgetting to look for them again.

So my wife had a look, found it first time and turns our she knows the bloke having worked with him, hopefully this means a nice discount :-)

He sounds OK as he replied straight away (it was about 11 at night) and says he still be able to fix the broken seat frame

Just driven back from Kent in utterly atrocious weather, to the point I could barely see where I was going as I went past HGVs. Rover was nice and comfy throughout the trip, although the lack of power is a bit frustrating

This is how I feel these days. I can't seem to do anything without it going wrong. Is EVERYTHING more difficult or is it my expectations or attitude?

I am scared to start anything as I know if something even small goes wrong (which it will) I will lose my shit over it and pretty much give up on life, sit down, watch a load of shit I have seen several times before on the telly and then get angry with myself for wasting another day of my life when I have loads of shit to sort out.

I am not sure if its just because before you could check if what you were doing was right on t'interweb you just worked round stuff and made do. At the same time, I suppose there is that much more that can break, like in this case.

Fleet reduction is going really well.

After defecting from shite life and buying a Focus ST as a second car/toy, I went one step further yesterday and splashed out on a new daily. Quite what the hell is going on in my head I really don't know...

So, with an even larger dent than before in the 'house renovation' fund (NOTE - the JohnK 'car fund' hasn't actually been touched this week despite 2 purchases) it became of utmost importance that shifting some of the shite on was to take place.

Sierra went onto eBay and I was then approach by an AS'er who wanted to purchase the fine motor. What happened next, however, was not the initial plan.

I set off in the Sierra for a leisurely drive. I returned looking at this:

So fleet reduction ended up in 'bag-o-shite in part ex' shennanigans...

/\ This is spot on. Must summon up the enthusiasm to work in the White Rover 414 tomorrow after starting the job last week.

Looking very much like a bx instument cluster there, john!

I thought it was the BX one when I first glanced on it.

I can't remember which thread or when but I think you put in a question about tyres for the ST.

From my Octavia vrs with 220+ hp through the fronts I have found the following.

The original Continental Sport Contacts stuck to the road like shit to a hairy arse, but only lasted 15,000 miles before the fronts were gone.

I replaced with Goodyear Eagle f1 asymmetric 2, which on an 18" I got with fitting for under £100 per corner. They aren't as good under traction as the Continentals, lateral grip is enough that you need to be doing some stupid speed before they will let go. Under braking I have only had the ABS flutter a couple of times so they are good enough. After 15,000 miles, they still have another 7,000 miles left so will last 50% longer than the Continentals. 8/10 Would buy again.

For sticky and cheap then Toyo Proxes are soft and can be found cheap if you are lucky.

Yes it's a familiar BX

It won't be staying too long though.

Sloth - cheers for the tyre info!

I find it's time pressures with me. Gone are the days when I could luxuriate in enjoying the process of fixing cars, I seem to have F all time to do so these days so it all becomes a rush job. I'm sure it's the same for most of us. I don't even have kids so god knows how you lads with sprogs manage to fit stuff in!

At this rate the previous keeper count on that BX's V5C will be into three figures by the end of the year.

I hope so. It also does depend on whether I can find which safe place I've put it in as well.

You can still neg him and should do so. This drives me crackers

That BX is now practically on my doorstep.  Uh oh.

I would... no room at the inn, no cash in the bank, nothing I'm willing to swap.  I'm at a happy spot with the cars right now.
