2 out of 19 but the R8 coupé is playing games so may soon be 2 out of 20 if this afternoons collection goes to plan.

Oo! Is it green and in Norfolk, perchance?

I'm going to guess that it's Brittish.

If it makes you feel any better Vulg, I was down to one usable car out of ten yesterday. The Audi is fine but out on loan, the Jeep has two flat tyres, the Discovery's immobiliser has shat itself, the XJ-S isn't taxed or insured and the others are all out of MOT and awaiting springtime (or Armageddon or something).

Crisis being the mother of action, I gave up trying to get RH on the phone and insured the XJ-S online with Footman James. It cost a squidge over £100, which doesn't sound bad for a V12 super GT. And now I've taxed it, so I shall be driving round in it this week.

Shame about the Disco, 1 of the few cars I've owned that I'd possibly buy back. ......immobiliser bypass is easy enough I believe. You need to search for the "immobiliser spider kit" IIRC

My car owning history is a wet dream for Nigel Farage.

Fixed! Did some Googling, put a new CR2032 battery in the fob while sitting in the car, turned the key in the ignition to position 2 then straight back again, and we're away. Yay!

You're right to miss it, it's a very fine vehicle. I'm about to spend a bit of money on servicing it, which it easily justifies by being useful, comfy and reliable. If I do ever want to move it on, you'll be the first to know.

One out of three here.

Progress is progress. I've done nowt to the Doloshites since the Civic came along, a grim state of affairs. Hope better weather and more funds appear soon...

4/4 here. Mainly planning in stages MOT/ maintenence and repairs as and when required. As we all know, the only thing you can plan on with a combined fleet age of over 60 is that things can and will go wrong that turn any plans upside down.

Or Winston Churchill. I prefer Winston Churchill.

Ooooooohhhh Yes, lets go with Churchill

Car has gone off to Specialist cars again. This time, they have left me a huge truck type thing with loads of ground clearance and I can see oil on the floor. That is good. Bad is that it means the rack is leaking again so weeks waiting and no fucking transport!

Posted

Update on above.

Paul just rang and yes, the rack (brand bloody new with about 250 miles on it!) is fooked! Pissing out on the drivers side, the left suspension top mount has failed again (another brand new part with the same mileage) and is also being replaced. Thankfully, as said before, these guys are good and don't try and 'get out' of paying so all covered.

It seems my Bentley ownership is fated! I don't care, I am NOT giving up.

Also, being delivered a Skoda Fabia to use, as mine will be away for a few weeks again. FOC, my favourite price! :)

You should buy that carmac one on the ebay thread as a backup

The one thing I have learned about Bentleys is: don't buy one that has been stood for years, has not been looked after properly and has been maintained badly.

So, on that one, I'm out!

I would have another one though... I really fancy an early Spirit like Panhards as they are so much simpler. Carbs are for winners! Also, no active ride (which is fooking brilliant when it's working properly - you would not believe how well a huge car can handle!) but, they are still complex cars with an electrical system that gives me cold sweats just thinking about it!

Gave the seat oil and filter service today, sun was shining and it was lovely being out in it.

Oil, filters and 3 spark plugs came to just over £50, need to pick up air filter tomorrow.

Its in for MOT and new exhaust tomorrow so expect a report in 3 weeks saying I have written it off in a shunt!

Usually what happens when I spend some money on my cars.

^^^ Crusty Sills - that's apt. The XM has just failed its MOT on sill rot. Twat-with-a-jack damage sadly that was lucky to get through last year. Also has a holed steering rack gaiter and number plates are iffy. DMB time!

Oh well. Could be a lot worse!

Keep the Rover as main car and 'reliable backup' for when one of the cars you buy to try inevitably fails to proceed?

It could occupy the Renault's space when not in use and you just swap the insurance over ?

Ah, excellent, you solved the problem*.  Just in time too because my full engine gasket set arrived today from Der Franzose so I now theoretically have all I need to rebuild the Renault's engine and get it running... maybe.

4.5 out of 5 here for failed cars. KV6 Sterling's radiator has started leaking from the bottom again. It can't be helped. Not sure if it has HGF or not. At idle when up to temp, heater blows cold, but on the move they blow roasting hot. Also at idle, there is a bit of white smoke but not white enough or dense enough for HGF nor is there any noticeable loss in power. I shall try amd get it pressure tested and see whats what. If no HGF, it stays.

Met a local chap yesterday who needed help with starting his Skoda as I think the starter motor has gone or summat. Turns out he also owns a lowered Saxo and Ford Focus that have been sitting for a month or so collecting bird-shit, fallen twigs and mould where I now park my car. So hopefully if push comes to shove I shall leave it on this quite cul-de-sac until I can place it elsewhere.

Fiesta is in sick bay - got a local garage to replace a leaking thermostat housing and changed the 'stat as well. Now the gauge is off into the red. Another new stat required then.

They've given me a 51-plate Punto as a loaner, trouble is the choons don't work - the on/off button is illuminated but when I press it nothing happens - anyone got any ideas why? The fuse in the back of the HU seems okay. I can't listen to the wind noise anymore.

Think the 340 Variomatic has to go. Bugger.

Noooo... I've got less than no space at the moment but give us a shout if it needs a new home.

I'm currently on the, mostly, one out of three with regards to transport, in that the Land Rover is mostly working, most of the time, the TR7 is still sleeping and the Smart is still dead. Latest news on the Smart is it is still awaiting the right part, I think it has now been back at the garage longer than I had it on the road. I'm now reaching the point where I won't want it back and wish I had bought something else in the first place.

I have to stop looking at ebay; the Junkman approved "cheap" Corniche was back on, down to only £12,995. I still chickened out though, as it still wouldn't leave me with enough cash to sort it out properly and I'm retiring in a couple of months so won't have much income. (I should still have enough left to buy a couple of shotgun cartridges or a rope though, if things really get bad)

I'm at the very odd state of 7 out 13 on the road, which is unheard of for me. I'm also hoping to get another 2 legal in the next month as well.

Soon as I retrieve my foot pump from the other lockup and attack the Jeep with it I'll be back up to 5/10 road legal and 8/10 running, which sounds a bit better.

The Renault and the Rover need a couple of odd jobs for MOT but nothing major and I'm deliberately not running them over the winter anyway.

I'm on 2/8 fit at the minute with the Kia now broken. The Council Estate is back in daily use now but the 340 isn't fit for the hammering it'd need to take, especially for the next couple of weeks with the funeral prep and wedding stuff/honeymoon all coming in the next fortnight.

No, I don't mean a Gaylander2 that's actually got mud on it, or a 12 year old CID copper shouting at idiots hanging over The Euston Underpass taking selfies with a major accident in the background.

Rather, the time that a gentleman in a RR Sport drove into a Taxi and 3 other cars, flipping the RR on its side in the process, 50 feet in front of me in Mrs N's baby Land Rover.

Well, today I got a letter from the Met. asking what dates I'm not available to attend court.

It seems that this cunt driving around London in his 62 plate Range Rover Sport , giving it Boris Big Bollocks and managing , according to The Standard, hospitalise 12 people. Had no insurance, They're also going for Due care and attention, neither offence, you'd think, would need me as a witness.

I'll keep you posted on what happens next.

I now have a Skoda Fabia where once sat a Bentley... I'm beginning to think it's a good swap! :)

If you'd like it to be a permanent arrangement, I'm sure I could rustle up one you could keep. I'd have to take that old green car off you though

I'm on 2 out of 5 at the moment now the XM has failed the MOT. However, I'm one step closer to 3/5 as the Dyane's engine is slowly coming back together!

Both heads have been lapped in, cleaned and refitted. I was getting temptingly close to refitting enough stuff to get it running, but FOOD. Starving.
