Fuck me it's cold, just went out to fire up the Cherry and both doors were frozen shut. Climbed in through the boot and it's rumbling away like a goodun. Time to find the silcone spray for the rubbers I reckon.

I know, I'll drag the Corsa out and go to work in it. All's well for the first 1.5 miles or so, then it's spluttering at low revs. Came to the lights near work, stalled and missed my turn. Had to rev the bollocks off it and then launch away from the lights to the undoubted amusement of the bloke in 911 next to me who must have thought I was trying to race him :(

Anyhow, it was fine on Saturday but was a right bastard this morning and stalled twice. Going home could be fun.

Thanks Eddie, I didn't know you could buy universal radio surrounds. I got given a CD/USB stereo the other day so I'm going to mount that in the glovebox instead hidden away. The orginal radio works briefly but it fades away until you bang it again, it will start again for a few seconds before then it drops out again, I'm guessing there's some kind of amp that's knackered inside.

Steeling myself for a batshit daft collection saga this evening.

Halfords used to stock them; when I worked there in 2002-3 we used to sell about two or three a year. They died out after DIN fitting slots became common. The ones we did shift went to owners of 'Sixties and 'Seventies stuff who wanted to put newer head units in.

If you have a friendly local Halfords with a manager who doesn't mind shuffling through old stock in the warehouse, it's worth an ask.

Sent off my drivers side overmat to J Upton and son. Trimmers par excellence! The heel mat bit has broken up and is really tatty (I don't like tatty!) and so it is being replaced in leather with 'Bentley' embossed in it. I have had to wait nearly two months for this slot for what they reckon is a two day job. They must be very, very busy!

Fun fact, I discovered this morning whilst scraping the windows on the fleet.

A Seat Arosa has much deeper front door windows than a W211 Merc, a Fiat 500, a Rover 600, a 206CC and a Freelander 2.

I am a numberplate wanker as I have just bought A666HGF from the DVLA auction this morning. I enquired about it last year when I bought K666HGF but they would only release it at an auction. Looks like the Rolls will get yet another personal plate it has had 5 or 6 over the years.

Fired an e-mail off to the company I bought the new height reduction springs for the Rover from because I was wondering why it was taking a while (by modern internet standards, actually only a week) for them to arrive.  Turns out they're made to order and he's not had an order for them in several years so a new set is having to be made.  I should have them sometime next week as he's expecting them to be completed by the end of this.  I'm okay with that.

I had a job interview this morning, so I decided that some POWER DRESSING was in order :

Luckily, the tie made it through the interview without suffering HGFailure... It must have made quite an impression* on the interview panel, because they offered me the job !

O-M-G

I've been looking for one of these for years. They'll probably show up on eBay soon though so I will join you in a Austin-Rover tie wearing-a-thon.

That a A plate is class, shame my Reliant was not a year older it would have looked great on it.

I do. This one:

It belonged to Partridge of this parish.

I'll wait for the XM thought police to come and tell me it's crap :)

Those 605s are wonderful, always had a bit of a desire for one as they look great (especially in that colour) and have the added bonus of obscurity, seldom ever see one now.  They're a good counterpoint to the XM, conventional but no worse for that.

Popped in to see a mate today. He picked up this:

20160120_164323_zpsdxij5kcl.jpg

1994 NSR250 R MC28. This one is in first class order, and a bloody clever machine from Honda. It has no ignition key, but a kind of fat credit card. Said card(s) can be programmed with different maps, and through some clever splicing of an HRC loom and a "road" loom, you can use the race maps with all the road equipment like lights, speedo still working.

I remember having a go on one of these when they came out. I had a Kawasaki KR1-S at the time, and while the Honda wasn't as quick, I reckon it was definitely the better machine.

Hard to believe this bike is 22 years old!

I overcame the Corsa's spluttering and stalling by simply leaving it at work and cycling home instead. Bit of a bonus, as the weather was fantastic and the 13.4 miles home was just glorious.

Better it shart it 13.4 miles from cavcraft showroom than 230 miles from touring_towers!

hope its a simple fix!

My boss has 330d BMW that's about to go back off lease after 3 years. A while back it pinged up a weird auto headlamp aim error and he got it fixed under warranty and the fitted a new headlamp.

It's just done it again when as its due to go back . He priced it and it costs 1800 quid to replace 1 headlamp inc labour . It's got 8 days left on its warranty so luckily. I bought my Xjr for 1800 quid and it had 4 headlamps an engine and a supercharger !

Whisper it, but the lion badged cars usually have a better ride and handling balance, with much less complexity. Doesn't this 605 have electronic dampers?

It's crap, mate, look at it, it's got no LHM.

Neither did my XM

I had another play with the radio tonight in the Dolly. It turns out I could trim the plastic surround larger as the plastic trim that goes around the radio covers it so I decided to fit the Pioneer radio now instead.

It also seems the reason the old radio didn't work properly was because the original earth wasn't connecting very well and was only giving out 3.4v instead of 12-14v so I moved the earth to better location and it's much better now. I'm really pleased with it and I can refit the original radio when I sell the car now too.

The funny thing is I have three 1970s car radios, one of which is a Radiomobile one that would have been standard dealer fit for a Dolomite, and none of them fit an un-modified radio surround!

Ambitious collection gamble was a TOTAL DISASTER!

Kids: never ever go to West Wales from The Fens on a school night to pick up a free Renault. EVER.

There is no such thing as a free Renault.

Miserable week.

Hugely busy work, 60 hour+ week, colleagues off sick.

Top it all off either the Octavia's coolant temp sensor is on the fritz or the thermostats stuck open. Been driving around anywhere between 60-90 degrees.

At least all these collection threads are keeping me cheerful.
