That was a vague plan at one stage, but that car remains available. There's a limit to how many Volvos I can acquire in one week.

'92 is bloody early for one of those, and the Mitsi ones are pretty uncommon now compared to Proton Satrias.

Hmmm... The 'I won this car' conversation with Mrs B didn't go well.... Worse than expected!!

MGF doesn't appear to be as bad as I thought.

There's definitely a leak (it's lost coolant somewhere), but after topping the bottle up, checking the levels and running it, it doesn't overheat. There's no steam, the OAT doesn't pressurise and there's no loss of power. Gauge flaps around like a mad thing, though, probably a shagged sensor. I think the last return pipe blow-up might have damaged it. Drove the car at motorway speeds and put a ton of load on it - and it behaved.

One of the aux belts is shrieking its tits off and is in dire need of replacement. Getting a specialist to pick the car up for me - I'm actually more worried about the belt snapping than it impersonating a kettle.

Went out to jack up the Scimitar tonight to make a start on fitting the new electric fuel pump-this one goes near the tank instead of under the bonnet so a bit of work required.

Was only going to jack it up and have a look as I'm off on Friday but I got cracked on and it's now fitted and plumbed in, just needs wired up and it'll be good to go.

The SVM wish you well on your collection capers, and have put in a good world for our favourite bouncy druid with our Viking God of choice this week.

Thor, the God of Hammers, right?

He's been our Viking God of Choice for every week since The SVM was founded. How did you know?

Dugong , the gauge flapping around is prob due to an airlock . Have you opened all 3 bleed screws when you topped up ?

Nice one, Alex, that looks fantastically grim.

Racing* results:

11.45, Chester, yesterday

1st: New_Viva

2nd: Trek

3rd: Berlingoagogo

4th: Shanks'spony

Withdrawn: Green306, refused at first hurdle

Early reports from the stable room indicate the red hot favourite was withdrawn due to testing positive for veg oil and the (knob) jockey owner has renamed the steed 'Bastardwouldn'tstart' in the hope of cheating his way into the next race at the same time today by an injection of petrol.

Hoping for Volvo exploits on Friday - awaiting confirmation that this day is possible, and that it will actually start.

Logistics are currently suggesting that I shall begin the caper by driving 200 miles to the Volvo in the Nippa, and Mrs DW will then continue northwards in said Malaysian minicar to visit folk while I bravely try to drive back home. I may stop over with friends located rather conveniently close to said Volvo rather than try to cover 400 miles in one day, 200 in something completely unsuitable and another 200 in something completely unknown. Yes, I know. Boring. Sorry. I will not reserve a thread at this point in time.

I love buying old brochures for my fleet, it takes me back to a time when Nokias scored five stars in EuroNCAP and Daewoos roamed the earth.

Sounds a bit like my Sterling, coolant seems to dissappear, though it doesn't seem to use much. I have a clattery sounding belt when thenengine is cold, it's a small cambelt. Mahmoud had a look and saw how much it was going to take to change just that belt on its own, I'd decided it just wasn't worth it. When it gets warm the belt sound goes.

Got one for this and the Rialto a few months back. Didn't realize but the Shuma has no abs, a nice basic motor. Grandad also must have spec'd it up, by adding such luxury as a front plate surround no less

Volvo is causing stress already. Peter James want £50 to add it to my policy. Which is due for renewal next month. £50 for a month?! Er, no.

So, I'm ringing around getting quotes and slowly losing the will to live. Frankly, if I can move my renewal date further away from Christmas then that'll be useful.

Octy MOT fail on drivers seatbelt mech, not rears. Was hoping this wouldn't be a fail, but it had got to the state where when you got in the car of a morning it had only just retracted from the previous evenings journey.

How much do Skoda want for the part?

£125. Each.

Fuck that noise.

Good used sourced for £15 on t'bay.

Prime reason to buy some more shite to give me something tested to use? Wrongo when we've just had a quote for £4k for a bathroom redo.
There goes my shite purchasing for a while.

The Honda is playing silly buggers! Clutch is pissing about and demanding higher revs than usual before it will engage (auto clutch/CVT box!) so I was going to do a 'clutch learn' re-set thing, but I've forgotten how to do it!

i was all set for phoning the dealers and asking them how to do it when it just decided to work as normal... wtf?  It's been serviced (the gearbox that is) in the last 1000 miles and feels odd.

I've just added the 340 to my FJ policy for £19.44 plus £25 admin fee until June 2016... should be able to get it cheaper than 50 quid a month surely?

Owing to a lack of space and 'too many cars' I am thinking of selling/ doing a raffle for the Honda Prelude. Simply not used enough nowadays. Any interest? Value approx £900 on here... More on ebay but cannot be arsed!

It is a proper Volvo.

What constitutes a Proper Volvo?

Are our V70s proper, 1999 and 2001?

Mrs Cyl is asking if she can have her 1990 740GLE Auto estate back from her farther who is no longer using it but it is a non starter 200 miles away in Wales!

The picture is from 2004 when Mrs Cyl first got it.

GLE Auto is a dreamy spec. This one's a bit more povo with one of those manual gear things.

I think I've found a better insurance set-up, though I saved a bundle by refusing the breakdown cover. I mean, I won't need that will I? Not with a vehicle that's been sitting since March.

It is a non CAT car which was a very deliberate choice at the time as the CAT car were noticeable slower and thirstier.

No breakdown cover?

I got in my Volvo 760 this morning to drive it to a funeral in Wisbech. Its been sat for 2 months and was half-buried under a shitload of dead leaves. Did it start? Instantly, and drove perfectly all the way. Its a car for winners I tell you.

Insurance renewal time in the _1 household, Admiral wanted £1500 this time, of which £276 was breakdown cover for three cars.

I didn't renew with them.

DW: I'm one of those who would bang on about AutoAid given any opportunity.  Worth opening my mouth here?

Given the perilous state of my finances a lot of the time, having to pay then claim back isn't really suitable. It is sod's law though that something is sure to go wrong once I no longer have cover. I've called on it twice in the past eight years I think - when the red BX blew a front to rear pipe, and when the H van's windscreen exploded in Germany.

See? You don't need* breakdown cover when you have Volvo on your side.

We have owned 5 740s only one dumped us!

Update

Memory is returning 2 have dumped us, heater valve exploded and dumped all the water in the dark, the other was a broken cam belt.

Took the Frontera out earlier, it felt really slow like the handbrake might be on a bit.

New sodding mats stuck under the pedals....

Got to take my modern car to main dealer in Friday so its machine can talk to my var and tell I to turn the fecking change oil light off. Oil and filter changed and my garage can't turn light off. Also the fan is on so they need to ask the car why. Anyway has a bonus I am using my Rover 75 for daily duties and it works so I don't need to talk to it.

I'm not far off that though all mine have been 2.3i autos - the first was a sack of shit, the second is the Council Estate, the third was a well abused rotbox 760 saloon, then the Sigmund Cox 740 estate (HGF at 300k-odd), then the raffle find 760 estate. Bearing in mind the most expensive was the most rotten a free 740 should be joyous.

740s also seem more rot resistant than 760s for some reason.
