Saw a lovely red B reg Visa in Edinburgh last night - is it anyone on here?

No photo, I did have my cameraphone but I was on a bus and it was pitch black, the photo would have been as much use as none at all.

Annoying innit. Last night I saw a sky-Blue 1987 D-reg Peugeot 309. What a photo that would've been. It passed me as I was sitting in the parked-up Sterling.

I fixed the non-functioning heated rear window on the Swift (one of the little "feet" that the wires join onto had come adrift).

How did you fix that?

I've been fettling today as well, fitted a new propshaft centre bearing on the 760 and investigated the busted lumbar support in the drivers seat. The mechanism inside the seat was broken so I removed it, drilled and locked it in the '75% adjustment' position, and reinstalled it inside the seat. Now I have slightly more lumbar support than i would like, but its much better than none at all.

How tricky was it to remove? My 740 has the same issue.

Re heating oil, as long as it's not red I'd use it in the car, have used a bit of kero previously in an xud.

The problem with it is it is much less lubricatey than normal diesel so will kill pumps quickly if not mixed with veg etc.

Having said that, there was a bloke running a pd Bora on 90% kerosene, 10% biodiesel when I used to buy bio from a place in Bradford. Allegedly it had ran fine for thousands of miles but it sounded like spanners in a washing machine.

It's the same colour as veg oil, but the consistency of water, and fooking stinks!

The Flange wants to go to asda tonight, I've added 10l of veg to the shopping list!

The little foot thing has two contact points, so I put superglue on one of them and on the connector on the end of the feed wire, which left the other contact point (between the two) glue-free and touching the HRW wires.

pretty easy, snip 3 metal hog rings at the bottom of the seat backrest and the covering fabric comes up and off like a big sock. (only have to take it half off). Then you can see the lumbar support mechanism inside the seat and remove it with 3 screws. Skandix sell new ones for only 7 euros but the shipping is 18 euros which seems a bit harsh. Want to buy a couple and go halfers on the shipping?

Thanks. On a free car, I'm struggling to motivate myself to spend money on it, especially after being forced to buy a new alternator (still tempted to track down some bushes and then flog one of the then-working alternators to be honest). I shall attempt some bodgery. Any of SVM up for lumbar bulk buying?

Charles Darwin owned an MX-5 and claimed it inspired his Theory of Evolution.

Barbara Cartland sold 500 MX-5s at launch to promote her 1200th book.

The Renault 20 was used as inspiration with Mazda buying one to reverse engineer.  In the end, only the headlight filament from the Renault was used in the Mazda to serve as the filament in the cigarette lighter.

In Japan they are known as My Little Rocket Pony, for no reason anyone can understand anywhere.

The first MX-5 sold in the UK was bought by a retired farmer in Leeds who wanted it to view the annual crane festival.

RED CARD you are in the rong thread- go to your room young man and dont come out untill you're sorry

Skattrd finally got the Umm mot'ed just in time to come to Norfolk for a pay and play day at my local off road site.

The Umm behaved itself quite well but would have benefited some knobblier tyres. Skattrd, not having done any off roading before was quite cautious going round trying to avoid the deepest mud....

I on the other hand didn't feel his sense of caution.......

Tried setting fire to it? Although that would be a damn shame given the amount of work you have put into it. Does your magic cable and software not show what's going on? Does it show live data?

I had a nice visit from Bub today to collect some tools, to celebrate this occasion, the Picasso pre-emptively shat it's voltage regulator and now cannot be driven due to the dash lighting up like a low rent German disco as soon as the engine does anything more than idle speed.

The restrictive bit can be punched through with a long screwdriver. I bet that's your problem.

Hit a breakers today and snaffled up an Escort 1.8 DIZZLER fuel filter for the XM. The primer button all seemed to work OK so I stuck it on in the works car park at home time, Fecked up the bleeding and had to ring Mrs LT to come and give me a jump start, for some reason she brought the Mother in Law with her who was sat in the passenger seat with her arms folded muttering things about old cars. Of course it was now absolutely pissing down by that point so I got soaked,

All seems to be working fine and the Escort filter housing seems to flow veg oil with no problems at all. I think the original purflux filter must have been leaking air for a while and gradually getting worse as the XM has never run so well.

RESULT, although I'm now sat at home in my pants as I was piss wet through,

The old girl burst into life despite the arctic conditions. Oh, and the gaffa tape repaired battery that i exploded the other day. But then it ran out of fuel and needed much bleeding and subsequent winding so the disco had to provide some amperage.

Had an Alfa 166 FTP this morning, fired up and then died. Wrongly assumed it was a dry fuel tank (light had been on for a while but wasnt yet indicating empty)- i came back tonight, dutifully added some fuel from a jerry can but it doesnt want to know. Half starts , stutters for a few seconds then stops. This has now made me put my arse in gear with the Range Rover. After being more or less abandoned on the street for quite a few weeks, I lobbbed a new battery on and after much cranking it spluttered into life. Running like a sack of shit I had a browse around the engine and found arcing across the coil, swapped over the king lead for a spare; now its running spot on and my new daily driver. After the Alfa went on strike I had to borrow SWMBOs car to get to work today, which was embarrasing as her parents are round from Germany after the arrival of another Essexman jr. I could read their expressions (roughtly translated from the German as buy a new car on finance FFS)

Could it have picked up a load of crap from the bottom of the tank?

I'm just back from collecting a set of nearly new winter tyres for the Polo.

They went to £87 thanks to the snow yesterday, still cheaper than buying a set of random part worns and getting them fitted. I wish they weren't Hankook but they have to be a lot better than the ditchfinders it's wearing just now.

Thanks to Lacquer Peel for flagging up the listing.
