That's what I did this morning with the BMW as well... Filled out online, got an email confirmation it had been sold.

Also did same with Omega when I bought it and both me and the seller got confirmation emails as well. So simple.

I know the plates look crap but the reg only arrived this morning and it is now ready for its first proper run in over 20 years which could be to London on Saturday.

In other news my mate has decided he wants to buy up a few Piaggio ape type things in France so it looks like a road trip might be on the cards.

I use the online system - ask the seller for the ref number/take a picture when I buy, then just apply online with the "sold a car/private seller" route. No loss of V5, no post other than getting it sent. Works well.

I've just tried that, pretending to be the dealer i bought the car from, got to the screen where you enter your V5c number and mine doesn't work?! Mine is a 12 digit number but the DVLA will only give you room to enter a 11 digit number?! WTF is that about??

The only solution is never to buy or sell a car ever again.

New keepers number is 11 digits is it not?

Or the other way round, I can't remember but I'm sure one has one digit less.

I haven't got the main part sat hard gone lost in transit somewhere, I've only got the green keepers supplement, well i haven't got that either as it's been posted! I've just got a photo of it and that has 12 digits on it.

Drop the leading digit, I think it was. Don't have a V5 to hand right now :/

Posted

Yeah, just leave off the first digit. (I do have a v5c to hand...)

Posted

Still stumped, You're right about the first digit, I've just checked another V5 (thanks) but I'd still coming up as "Unable to find a vehicle record

Please select the ‘Try again’ button below and check that the V5C document reference number and vehicle registration number that you entered are correct."

Maybe it has gone through the system and it's been issued a new V5?. I think I'm going to have to phone them.

Posted

I should have rang in the first place, the lady just said they have just processed the green new keepers slip I've recently sent them and the new V5 should be back to me in the next few days. :)

Trying to sort out a deal to buy this at the moment -

This car is phenomenal. Dan who owns it runs our local BM Facebook group and sets all the meets up etc. it's been meticulously maintained and upgraded. It's not quite shite money but I'm so excited about possibly owning this car as I have always had the horn for it. He's bringing it round tomorrow night so I can check it out.

Well, I can't see that getting many likes here. Yuck. Get a bleedin' FSO Caro and sort your priorities out man!

To be fair Ian, my 4 year old 520d would get 0 likes, so replacing with a modded E46 puts it on equal standing. It is lush though ...

That is about 30 mins work.

If I was keeping it I would go to town on it as I think it would scrub up OK.

Also got focus back today. Will update that separately.

What steam cleaner Moog, a household one or a proper job?

I've been considering one for a while as the seats in most of my cars are horrific.

MsJ has a derv 13-plate Galaxy on loan from work for shuttling some foreign people aboot.

It's fucking awful.

Vast, wallowy, dirty. It has a weird handbrake that looks like a bucket handle and you pull it up and out of the centre console. Visibility for such a big car is abysmal.

The turbo derv engine is pretty punchy though.

I hate to imagine the DMF issues.

Are you going to keep to as is, or return it to standard 320d SE spec?

Love the detective work there! Keeping as it is mate as a tidy daily. Although one of th OZ Mito alloys has a crack so I've already sourced possible replacement rims to change the look of it on the off chance I can't repair the Mito with a new barrel.

Household pifco one. Cheap as chips.

Got loads of crap out of the seats. I think if you wanted to go to town it would come up pretty good.

Just remember to open the opposite door so it doesn't become a steam room!

Picked up the focus today and it is whiffy so going to try it on that.

Does it still have an SE interior?

The 220SLi is in for its MOT today. Wish it luck!

And with a dab of weld on one sill, it passed. :)

I do hope this ends up back at Mr Bo11ox's Rover care home in the future, it's starting to look pretty shabby now and could do with an owner who's good at bodywork really and that is not me.

Great news! I like to think I did my bit for the emissions test by giving it an Italian tune up over the Highlands!

Edit - any excuse to reminisce over my easter roadtrip....

That looked like a great trip.

Sadly, its time with me had done it little good. The sea air has eaten the bodywork in a few places (I have now moved slightly inland but the damage is done) and it's running a little rough from cold again.

I've done nothing but top the oil up and wash it a couple of times since getting it back in May and with two other cars and a new flat to fix up it's just never going to get the TLC it needs as long as I own it. I feel bad that I'm neglecting an autoshite icon so I'll be finding it a new home soon. There's a couple of names already in the hat so I'll sort that out soon, probably in a week or two.

Both seats in my ST are knackered. Cable as broken in the passenger one so it won't tip (not on the side they normally break on) and now the frame has broken on the drivers so it's wobbling when driving.

Took them both out but it looked like a fucker to actually take the seats apart. Absolute fortune to replace them too..

Cable is an easy fix, parts are £10-15.

Maybe find someone local to weld your seat base....

The blue Mondeo is slowly worming its way back into my affections after costing me a lot more than planned to get through a test - it's been giving faultless service and is averaging 54mpg at the moment.  I do miss the power of the silver Mondy but I don't miss having to disconnect the battery every night to prevent it going flat.

It might be getting sold soon anyway though, as I've found something else I quite like the look of.
